@@mauricobian Lots of video that doesn't compress well, so youtube needs to send a LOT more data than usual to maintain video quality. min quality video probably takes as much bandwidth as 4k video usually does. So if anyone watches it at a high resolution, they are joking that it kills youtube's servers.

I'm super glad it was uploaded in 4K. Not because I have a 4K monitor, just so that it looks half decent on my 1080p screen after YT compression has had its way
@@ThunderboltMY the thing is, at any resolution above 360p, the Video will buffer for minutes, play a few seconds and buffer again. My internet connection is pretty slow (mostly less than 1mbit/sek down)

That was awesome. I know I am a bit late (3 years) to the party. Something that might look cool is to pour the Gallium down a very cold plate so see if it will freeze on the way down and leave some ripples as the flow stops.

@@kz.irudimen I was watching in 1440p and I could still see the compression artifacting, so I tried my luck with my internet connection (Aussie internet) and it looked pretty glorious. The video buffer was barely keeping up, but it was glorious.

if he poured it through the part for pouring it would have been a smaller stream so they wouldn't have been able to get as much reflection as they wanted

I would love to see more with liquid gallium. Go artistic! With the speaker and reflection, set up a reasonably neutral background then hit it with RGB or CMY lights and watch the rainbows.

I don’t think you guys understand that you just made one of my dreams come true without even realizing it. I’ve always had a fascinating with how water moves in air and honestly metal in air is next level amazing.
I would love to see different genres of music on liquid metal or something similar - I imagine how beautiful classical music would look in a thick, coloured liquid on a speaker, or something like that
Of course the perfect type of music is heavy metal!

Gallium doesn't react with Aluminium Oxide, which forms a solid layer on Aluminium exposed to the air. Generally you need to either scratch or chemically remove the oxide layer to get the reaction initiated.

The pouring shot at 4:00 has got to be one of the most beautiful shots I've ever seen. The focus is immaculate, the composition is perfect, the movement and the colors are amazing, and above all Gav did it in his first take without too much thinking about it. Simply astonishing!

It's interesting how, during the speaker and drums sections, when the gallium shoots up like water, the droplets of them behave more like a solid than a liquid. You're not seeing them ripple in the air as they struggle to maintain their cohesive nature like water.

I know I am late to the party on this, but on the topic of computer rendering something like Gallium, render engines don't trace rays (in this case reflections) infinitely. They have a maximum "bounce" limit typically between 2-6. So after, say, 3 bounces rays stop calculating. Even in nature at least some light is absorbed, some is scattered, and some is reflected. Light doesn't bounce infinitely (a process known as attenuation), and does eventually become imperceptible.
I laughed when Dan said "I think what they needed to do to the T-1000 was to vibrate him to death".

The first would be hard, as I doubt you can actually get a balloon full of air under water far enough, that it doesn't pop due to the large pressure difference.

The purpose of the spout in cooking is usually to have a very accurate pour. However, in this case, they wanted a really wide pour so they could get as much reflection as possible.

I don't know about you guys, but it really bothered me when he didn't use the pouring lip to pour out the gallium at 3:48...
I think it captures a bit more. Poured from the pouring lip you automatically know where it falls, more or less. This is about seeing what gallium does differently.
Think it might have been so they could get a wider pour too?
also if dan had held the measuring cup by the handle to pour like that, it probably wouldve broke from the weight

you could see they already tried doing that by the marks on the mug, but for some reason decided this looked better. Dan went back to using the pouring lip in the second shot though

I once worked in an aluminum casting plant. It was hard not to get hypnotized looking at the molten aluminum mirror glowing from inside heat while it is being poured.

If you select 4k playback the video is not as compressed, even if you are only using a 1080p screen.
Even if 4k there is a decent amount of compression though. Just upload a 30 sec slo-mo clip to google drive or something and link it
