I know I am late to the party on this, but on the topic of computer rendering something like Gallium, render engines don't trace rays (in this case reflections) infinitely. They have a maximum "bounce" limit typically between 2-6. So after, say, 3 bounces rays stop calculating. Even in nature at least some light is absorbed, some is scattered, and some is reflected. Light doesn't bounce infinitely (a process known as attenuation), and does eventually become imperceptible.

From the first Google result, an Amazon listing is selling 100g of gallium for $39.99 USD. The density of gallium is about 5.1g/cc and the approximate volume of a 6ft balloon is 113 cubic feet, or 3200 liters. This *very* roughly totals up to around 6 million USD for the amount of gallium alone.
