- I just had to make this follow up video. After all of the excellent comments I received after posting my Top Ten and Bottom Ten Carry On films • TOP 10 BEST CARRY ON F... I realised I had to re-evaluate my life choices ;) I wanted to put together, based on the comments, a people's choice Top Ten, and here it is!
But, I'd like to try to expand the project - here's a shareable link to the Ranking Engine so you can make your own Top 30 Carry One films.

Totally agree that Khyber is also a brilliant film; Cleo apart, most of my favourites tend to come from that golden era between Screaming and Abroad, from 1966 to 1972. However, I also like plenty about the earlier Anglo-Amalgamated films, too. Cruising is a really underrated film, whilst Sergeant, although more in the tradition of gentle British comedies of its period, has always been one I really like. The strange one for me has always been Henry. The idea of Sid as a rough, tough, cockney "corblimey""Henry is inspired, and he plays the part brilliantly; Kenneth W is fantastic as Cromwell, whilst I've always enjoyed Terry Scott's contributions, and he too is great as Cardinal Wolsey. And yet the film has never been a great favourite of mine, and I still don't know why it doesn't quite work. Strange.
Carry On Up The Khyber was Bernard Bresslaw’s finest hour in the Carry Ons imo. His performance as Bungdit Din was hilarious. He was a great actor, performing with the Royal Shakespeare Company and the National Theatre.
He was indeed, I saw him in playing Don Armado, in Love’s Labour’s Lost in
1992 at the Royal Exchange Theatre, Manchester.
We are only a week away from Easter. ITV 3 often have a load of Carry On Films on at this time.

As actual cleverly written, well-crafted films, I think that Cleo and Screaming are the best. However, just for the sheer joy of having a great laugh on a wet Sunday afternoon, I don't think you can beat Camping. Apart from Jim Dale and Kenneth Connor, the entire Carry On team is in it, and they're all firing on all cylinders. The fraught Hattie/ Kenneth W relationship; Sid at his chuckling, lecherous best, battling with his lover/nemesis Joan Sims; Charles Hawtrey as strange, oddball and eccentric as ever; Terry Scott doing a great frustrated and fed-up "suburban man" routine, with shades of Tony Hancock in there, whilst Peter Butterworth and Bernard Bresslaw are on top form, playing their recognisable characters to perfection. Although she's only in( I think) 9 Carry Ons, Barbara Windsor is so associated with the films, and she's also at her iconic best here. Great film, though I do agree that the ending is a little weak.
They were all Good in different ways. But the early one's were the Best. Barney Glasgow 😊

Only 3 worth watching, "Carry On Up The Khyber" , "Carry On Screaming" and "Carry On Cleo"
Really surprised that Carry On Henry isn't right up there. Everyone's on top form. the sets seem, for once, to have had a bit of cash spent on them and it made me try garlic for the very first time! I wonder if the Terry Scott scenes from Convenience that were omitted might still be around? They'd be great to see.
Henry only got to 16 in this one. Apparently the Terry Scott scenes are lost. There are some stills in existence though
Really enjoyed both videos, your choices are more similar to mine. I particularly liked Carry On Spying - I think it's got something to do with Bernard Cribbins. Also why I perhaps like Carry On Jack (but not Columbus). OK, let's try that ranking engine.

Spying is often underrated. The Carry Ons were best, I thought, when they tapped into a current trend. Spying with James Bond, Screaming with Hammer movies etc.

@@Doctor_RandomI’ve sort of got a soft spot for the Comedy Store set coming in and having a go at something that they (like me) loved growing up. It doesn’t work, but it’s not as lazy, jaded and dispirited as England and Emmannuelle.
My other outlier, I guess, is giving a high ranking to Follow That Camel - anything with Phil Silvers in it is going to make me laugh.
Some tough 50/50 choices, so some of my results should be more "joint places" like the first 10-12 should be joint firsts and close seconds, and the last five should be equal last place.

Another interesting thing is my favourite member of the Carry On team, obviously i like most of the actors. This is only a guess but i'd assume a lot of people's favourite might be Sid James, Kenneth Williams, Barbara Windsor, or Charles Hawtrey. My favourite is actually Kenneth Connor.
Kenneth Connor is great, I think they underused him in the later films.

excellent - you've given me an idea about famous carry on quotes!
Without doubt, this has been the toughest test I have ever taken. Comparing Cabby with Spying and Screaming!!! Some of these questions were literally impossible to answer - but very fun and interesting to do. I have to say, I agree with the outcome. Pretty close to spot on! I certainly prefer the older ones from the 50s and 60s to those from the 1970s. I can't understand how so many people like 'At Your Convenience'. It sits at 23 in my list and very comfortable it is there, too.

Cora and myself are tickled pink we are fifth, this certainly gives you a drink on me, a large one (I've had no complaints.....just ask Sadie Tomkins)!! Brother Bernard has been praying at the tomb of Saint Cecilia that Abroad would be upgraded, like a better package holiday, to fifth, so his prayers are answered! Bert Conway has been drinking himself into a stupor over it all, but to be fair to Bert its any excuse, since falling off the balcony a couple of times when on holiday has done him no good! Lose tour Head, Carry on Abroad, Carry On Girls, Carry On Doctor, Carry On Again Doctor,
and Carry On Matron. I just love Barbara Windsor! She was so cute! BTW, you may (or may
not) realize how popular these films are here in the US as well!

Victor Maddern bought the Cleo set from a play called Caligula, and then loaned the set to Pinewood for Carry On Cleo.

Just completed my ranking engine list but for some reason I can't access it now. However my top 3 were 1 Screaming, 2 Khyber 3 Don't lose you're head.
Good top three. Screaming is my number one.
Cleopatra was on a few months ago so I paused the film at various points and cross-referenced it with stills from COC. Yes they did use parts of the sets and much of KW and SJ costumes and props were previously worn by Richard Burton.
It's funny how with the advent of HD television, in the scene where Cleo steps out of the bath you can clearly see her..............

Nurse ranks so low because I've only seen it once, many years ago and don't really remember it. I think Jack is great fun and don't know why there's not more love for it.

despite all the slating Columbus had at the time i feel it was a brave effort by the people behind it to embrace the carry on ethic by using all the comedic talent that was around at the time, the crew gave a good performance but with times changing and the double entenderes either not sharp or not allowed added to the fact that our kids didn't find any amusement with any carry ons it was time to lay the old girl to rest and move on to the pc age we are now in.
dont lose your head not one of the best and camel, well lets only say that the great phil silvers was better staying as bilko.

It rarely gets the top spot, but I think it has everything. All of the key people are there, except Kenny Connor, and it's a laugh a minute from the start. Frankie Howerd is exceptional.

Wot no Screaming? sacrilege sir! hehe, btw the sets from Cleo were loaned from a production house after a play of Cleopatra had finished its run, however a few of the costumes were actually from the Cleopatra movie (don't be impressed I just binge IMDb trivia a lot)
Screaming is my personal number one, and the people's choice number two. I don't see how it could be any lower :)

@@Doctor_Random Safly it’s not the best for me, I don’t hate any off the “Carry On” franchise if there’s a carry on film on then I’m watching it, even though they are film I’ve seen countless times. As you may have noticed I removed Carry On Columbus as that for me was just clutching at straws and was not a carry on film. I eagerly await the outcome of the definitive list. Kind regards.
Cleo, Henry, Screaming, Khyber...but i love them all..they were just the right side of cheeky. With PC culture i dont think theyd ever get made today And i hope they avoid cancel culture. 😊

@@Doctor_Random That was tougher than I thought it would be ranking them all 1v1 but for me Convenience was always going to be top. I know it was not the biggest due to unions not liking it (Probably too close to the truth at the time) but that makes it even better. Kenny cope and Joan Simms on top form not to mention the Bookie with the classic line "If I was a sportsman I would be riding the horse" .

Interesting list. I'm surprised so many of the contemporary films are in there. Other than the early B&W movies, the likes of Loving and Convenience have dated horribly - in my opinion.

Surprised Carry On Doctor isn't on the list. Can't believe Carry On Loving is in the top 10. I love Carry on Spying the most with Carry on Screaming. Also particularly like Carry on Teacher & Cabby.

I have an idea and suggestion for a video that you may find interesting and fun to do.
So, l think we all accept that the final 3 films (England, Emmanuelle and Columbus) were rubbish or extremely bad.
Part of it was down to times were changing, part of it the writing and part of it was the cast were too old, or had died.
But, what if one of those had changed? What if the casts or Carry On team had changed over time. Some of the regulars phased out or used less or more cameo appearances?
Who could be brought in to be part of the next generation of Carry On actors. For example Harry H. Corbett was great in Carry on Screaming and Fenella Fielding went toe-to-toe with Kenneth Williams and matched him, arguably stealing scenes from him.
Here is the challenge should you wish to take it on.
Looking at the actors/stars of the time 1971-1978 who would you have incorporated into the Carry on films. Who would you drop?
When you look at 70's sit-coms and comedians of the time there were a lot of very good actors and character actors and star names.

I can see both of them doing well doing comedy characters. Particularly Colin who would represent the working class man.
Without knowing the script and jokes l can see him in Carry on England as a squaddie with Kenneth Connor (Captain) and Windsor Davies Sergeant as always) as his straight men in the scene. The visual just works.
@@PeteC1471I am very surprised Diana Dors didn't do a Carry On. I see her as an interesting mix of Barbara Windsor and Hattie Jacques. Maybe that's why she never did one. The boots - or should that be bodice? - were already filled by Babs and Hattie.
Dick Emery would have been brilliant. I think Charlie Drake would have fitted in nicely.
@GariSullivan l think Diana Dors would have fitted in earlier in her career.
One of the last films she made was The Amazing Mr Blunden (1972). Madeline Smith (she did at least one Carry On) played her daughter in the film. She said in an interview that Director Lionel Jeffrey's had to do a lot of work to get her in the film playing the scary battle-axe Mrs Wiggins.
Diana was terrified about taking the part as she hadn't made a film in years. She was mostly doing Panto and being a personality doing commercials opening supermarkets etc.
She gave a fantastic performance stealing every scene she was in.
I could see Charlie Drake easily. Whilst Dick Emery would have been good. I think, like Charlie he was too successful to do them.
I think you have to look at it from an "if they wasn't successful in .... they would have been great"
Jon Pertwee would have been brilliant but he was Doctor Who.
If they hadn't been on Crackerjack... Leslie Crowther and especially Peter Glaze.
After the Cliff Richard films dried up Melvyn Hayes and Richard O'Sulllivan would have been good.
Melvyn pre- It ain't half hot mum could easily have slotted into the early Charles Hawtry spot.
