Grandfest was such a love letter to all of the fans. We got to experience something so special with each other. Win or lose of the fest, the theme will always stick in our hearts. It may be over and in the past, but we can live today like it’s still going on with each other; making tomorrow’s plans based around the love that was shared during the event. Here’s to Splatoon, the game that changed our lives.❤
Never have I seen a perfect celebration for a trilogy/era. Grandfest is truly a once in a lifetime event I am proud to have attended. No matter if you love or hate the decisions the devs make, it's very clear they love Splatoon as much as we do. And I'm excited to see that love be poured into a new era of Splatoon.
having this be my first ever splatfest is both a blessing and a curse cuz on one side it was such an amazing time and i enjoyed so much of it but on the other i feel like i missed so much prior. also having been there for two of the stream and getting to play with people in the community and feeling the sense of community was amazing. my parents think im odd for getting so attached to things like games but they honestly just dont get it i think lol. to a weekend i dont think I'll forget
Moments like this are why I’m so happy to have ended up a Splatoon fan. Despite my mixed feelings on this game’s design, and the overall series of highs and lows that this game has felt like, there is still a clear passion and love being pored into this franchise. Despite being on team present, I am still more then happy with team pasts victory. From the start, Splatoon 3 has been a celebration of the series history, and it feels perfectly fitting for the winning team to embody that as well. I’ve been around for splatoon 1 and 2, but I joined kinda late, after both final fests. Splatoon 3 is the first game I’ve been able to experience from start to finish, and it’s been an amazing experience all the way through. I don’t know what Splatoon 4 will do with the starting line we chose for it. But whatever it is, I will be there, no matter what.
This fest really was the perfect way to cap off the past nine years of this series, celebrating the series’ lengthy past with every idol coming together to put on a grand show in the present day that gave us all hope for the future, as well as something to look back on now that it’s in the past. It’s really the perfect celebration of this franchise and its main themes: the value of life, the endless flow of time, and the infinite preservation of emotion through art. The Grand Festival is just… everything. The ONLY ways it could have been better were if Anarchy modes were available and if more maps from past games were available (Urchin and Reef, for example) and if the S1 maps were how they were in S1, not to mention if there were fewer mirror matches, but those are more fundamental issues with the game and its Splatfest system than GrandFest itself.
relived the whole festival through this video lmao. what an experience. left me with the same post-event feeling that i get when i go to a convention. love this game.
This grand festival was such a legendary weekend. I managed to play and hang out with 20 people in that time, more than any fest so far. Everything in the game was just made in such an impressive way. After it was over at 2 am local time, I still stayed with a bunch of friends in a vc, reflecting on the past 2 years, and a little bit more. We proudly fought for team present, but team past was a close 2nd choice, so since a day after the results, I've still been quite happy about this tbh. The rest of the week is when I truly realised this phase/milestone is over, and have been quite emotional. This video kinda brought that back for a moment, as I really like how you compiled your entire experience in like this. I'll always look back at this time fondly, and I hope everyone had a fantastic grandfest as well
im really missing grand festival so much, i loved everything about it, the stage, the music, the venue, it really feels like a celebration of everything splatoon. also, fun fact i discovered while having fun with the out of bounds glitch: Theres a single jellyfish with collision infront of the sleeping tents outside the venue, i have no idea how or why that one jellyfish has it but its my favorite piece of trivia of the venue
i’m in the same boat of wanting something new for the game. i wasn’t the biggest fan of past, because, of the high chances that things will, continue to be the same old thing next game. but now that there’s been some time to breath, and think. i’m honestly more open to past winning. i completely forgot about what the direct said, and that 3’s story was the end to the saga. so thinking about it more. i’m actually really excited to see where they take splatoon 4. especially if they do decide to make the story about the past. it’ll be really interesting when, new squidbeak won’t be as heavily involved anymore
We have fought for our past, for most of us our childhood, and poured everything we had. We learned from our past mistakes and found strength in our memories. We WORKED for it. Team present's "enjoying the now" mentality made it weaker (and the fact all the noobs chose it didn't help). Sadly team future could not change the thing they thought was the most important but still have to look up to it because they must go fowaed at all costs. Will we get a calamary county hub? (If so i hope its like rural japan) Will we get a great turf war storymode? All i know is that i won and will try to better the future by acting in the present by learning from and fixing the mistakes of the past.
They gave splatoon 2 a final bang to end with flourish and a bigger impactful and like emotional blowout than splatoon had ended on and wrapped w but splatoon 3 has went with the biggest full firepower all energy big bang nuke bombshell and it was so fun 🤩 and was everything but in every best way possible. Splatoon really created a community. Splatoon has inkredible team (lol) and im so grateful for everyone who created this game sm. every splatfest is fun Ofc but this splatfest had all the hype and glitter and shit and was worth every moment argh I love this game sm, it’s so cute!
5:56 i almost died listening to that song once actually I was like 12, walking out with my ex (girlfriend back then obv) at night with ink me up in one of my earbuds, and i fell into this weird manhole thing with a bunch of giant pipes and a valve, idk it was dark. I hit my head, bruised my ribs, twisted my ankle, lost my shoes and it was pretty deep too, I probably would've been stuck down there if she didn't have absolutely insane upper body strength and pulled me up herself. Moral of the story being into buff women may have saved my life 😭😭😭 and ink me up is goated
Grandest was cool, but it really sucked that you couldn’t have friends in the lobby with you just this once. Felt kinda lonely with just the player and the jellies
Why Team Past won: So in Splatoon 2, Final Fest was Chaos vs Order. The reason Chaos won, when you look at Splatoon 2 and its story modes, becomes kind of clear. In Octo Canyon, despite it being my first Splatoon story mode, was copy and paste the last game, and even then was a complete downgrade with an easy final boss (the normal bosses I’ve heard are better though). In other words, it was the exact same as last time. Nothing changed. We needed change, and chaos is the same as change, more or less. In Octo Expansion, they overhauled the entire system, and while not as much of an overhaul as Side Order was, this change in both gameplay and challenge was more than welcome to fans. In summary, when veterans are still saying that Octo Expansion is still the goat 10 years down the line, they have a reason for it, and they’re right, because it was the first change to the core ideas of how the game can be played. It opened up so many possibilities to everyone, and all thanks to change, and as we’ve already said, change is pretty much just chaos. With Splatoon 3 on the other hand, ROTM was an amalgamation both metaphorically and literally, considering fuzzy ooze. It managed to squish together all the previous story mode level concepts, and yet not understanding what made them good. Octo Expansion could have more levels while having less gameplay because each level didn’t have to be a tutorial. Splatoon 1&2 didn’t have short levels because each level had special gimmicks that needed time and effort to explain, which justifies their longer time and lower abundance. Splatoon 3 hurt the 2 new movement mechanics so badly, I didn’t know they even existed until I had to look up a tutorial for After Alterna. In other words, the expansion of ideas being so underused and underdeveloped gave the idea of “changing the formula” not looking so good, especially after the new hub worlds felt fine (I didn’t hate or like them). As for Side Order, to be honest, I don’t have as good of a reason, but maybe because of all the nostalgia for Splatoon 2 (at least, I felt it). So all of this to say: my reason for Team Past winning is that people felt nostalgic for older games and more impactful story modes. While this doesn’t mean ROTM is necessarily bad (the ending was cool, even if it made no sense) or that Octo Expansion is perfect in every way, it means that this is a possibility for why the results ended up being what they were. Or maybe some veterans who’ve been playing from Splatoon 1 just got in a server and grinder all night lol. TLDR: Past won because of nostalgia
i'm so glad so many people have uploaded footage of the grand festival cause i missed it while taking care of my family members who caught covid. and what you were saying about it hitting you how far splatoon has come is so real! i remember watching that first nintendo direct where they announced the idea and being immediately on board because it sounded like such a cool concept. and now here we are, almost 10 years later 🥲💜
Reason why past won cause this memory is just so freaking beautiful

2:45 that noobstoise dude also was the reason we could do the out of bounds glitch

That one guy instantly clocking cuttletavio is absolutely insane like just call them a slur at that point
I love this game sm! The community for this game is wonderful too.

i love splatoon so much, and the fact we can go back to the Grand Festival grounds at any time with the amiibo is so sick
