Lethal Speed Ups In Pickleball That Produce Winners (Like A Pro!)

So what do players that are very effective at speeding up the ball do?
Of course proper target selection, accuracy, speed and spin play an important role so you’ll definitely want to practice speeding up the ball correctly on both the forehand side and the backhand side.
But an important part of the process happens long before your speed up is ever struck. As you move up the ladder in levels, you have to be increasingly picky about when you choose to speed up and from where.
Those that are the best at speeding do a lot of set up work which usually involves plenty of soft shots to get to that point.
The entire time they are hitting strategically soft whether that be a dink, a drop or a reset… they know that they are patiently “opportunity hunting” and doing everything they can to build towards that chance to speed up while it has not yet arrived.
It may occasionally get handed to them on a silver platter when the opponent doesn’t hit their shot as well as they intended. But mostly, they are earning there next opportunity to speed up with strategic soft play that also puts pressure on their opponent.

I find the speed up down the Line is very effective when I am hitting towards my opponents backhand. But don.t dip into that well every time ;)
