I loved that episode of Columbo, I watched it two times, great performance by Janet Leigh.

I thought the pacing was a little slow. But couldn't agree more about Janet Leigh's performance.

Not watched tons of Columbo, but I did recently watch Hill Street Blues (1980 - 1987) and it was a revelation! Such great writing / camerawork / scene choreography / acting etc
Particularly the first 3 seasons...SOOO damn good! (Plus: I just love that '70s / early '80s era of New York - so scuzzy and alive!)

I had no idea that the guy who played Danny Wilde was even tangentially related to the lady from "Holiday Affair"! I learned something today. You're quite right about this being a striking episode.

Great work guys. I'm 61, have watched him since I was about 9 yrs old and I also
have every episode in my DVD box set. When he realized it may take longer to crack the case than Grace had left to live, well then his subtle compassion kicked in. So he didn't really "let her go", ☺️. Excellent real life familial talent also, as you pointed out. Janet Leigh, Tony Curtis and Jaime Lee 🙏👍 thanks again guys

Hi guys , my favorite Columbo episodes are in Season 5 and this is one of them .The killer is so evil , but the people fall in love with other aspects of the character - the glamour of the 1950's musicals. Her husband is a real nice man and I feel terrible for him dying that way,he knew about her health condition and was trying to protect her , and look at what he got , I feel so bad for Dr.Willis Columbo let her get away with murder because she was gonna die even before going to trial , but he solved the case brilliantly as always.

Janet Leigh does an amazing job. Your heart breaks for her... even though she's a murderer.

@@TheNerdsofComedyatthePushWhat I said was , my heart breaks for Dr. Willis , the husband , he was a nice guy and was trying to spare his wife. She was glamourous but evil , has she survived ,I think she should have been arrested.

This is one of my favorite Columbo episodes, Janet Leigh is fantastic! The subplot’s hilarious, I just love when his dog shows up, they’re both so cute together.

I adored this episode. John Payne who played her former dance partner had won my heart many years ago. He looked so good in Miracle on 39th Street where he cooked that Thanksgiving Day turkey. Now Janet Leigh's character was suffering brain damage which raises the doubt was she really responsible for her actions? Did she have frontal lobe damage where she couldn't control her monitory actions? Although you claimed she was a cold blooded killer none of her actions after the fact indicated that. She was courteous and gracious to Columbo. She was trying to help catch the killer if there was one in her mind of her husband. She had a marriage of convenience. I believed she kept up what ever understanding she and her husband had made. I believe that Columbo's so called proofs in many of his murder cases would not stand up in a court of law. And John Payne's character retained his decent, gallant character as he stepped in to shield Leigh from the consequences of her actions. He felt responsible because his actions ruined her career because of the sexist actions and beliefs of the society she lived in. Leigh's was a sad fate many women suffered where they were not valued.

The old husband (victim) is the great Sam Jaffe...amazing that you guys don't even name him.

I disagree that Columbo in the end let her get away with it. Columbo is all about justice for the victim. Columbo would bring to the D.A. his belief and evidence that she did it and his confession and it’s the job of the D.A. to charge either of them which i’m guessing he wouldn’t charge neither and after her death, her dancing partner would come clean for the victim’s family and friends.

True. Though he didn't make an arrest. I assume he could have brought the findings to the DA, who then could have issued an arrest warrant. This definitely ended with the feeling that if Columbo arrested anyone it would be the dance partner.

And they both starred in The Fog (1980). I love Columbo, best TV crime drama ever along with The Streets of San Francisco, Barnaby Jones and Harry O.

Poirot had moral decisions to make in Murder on the Orient Express and Curtain, how do you think Columbo would have handled both situations?

    • @TheNerdsofComedyatthePush
      @TheNerdsofComedyatthePush  Год назад +2

Sad to admit I haven't read Curtain. Orient Express is a tough one. The victim was a child murderer and clearly despicable. I think Columbo would be really torn about making an arrest.

    NO!!!!!!
Columbo was going to do his job but but with a confession the process was going to take a bit if time to untangle especially if you do it sll by the book

you understand that she had some brain damage, right? that’s why her husband wouldn’t fund her show. Columbo let her go because she’d be dead kind a matter of weeks.

She had dementia or at least the onset of it and delusional. This was a good episode though not my favorite.
