- In today’s episode I explore the last part of Sulawesi. The home of the Phinisi, a wooden sailing schooner that is handcrafted in this small fishing village in Indonesia. Bira in Sulawesi
Tanah Beru is name of the town where the wooden Phinisi ships are built from iron wood and teak materials and groups of highly skilled craftsmen work very hard to create these masterpieces. The Bugis people of bira.
In this southern cape of Sulawesi island are the Bugis people. And the epicentre is Bira.
I find out how they are built along the beach in bira and I am lucky to see a boat being launched!
You might be able to spot @KristianHansen pulling on the chains too!
After we both see this incredible sight of the Phinisi ship being built we head to Bira’s best beach, Bara beach.
This is where blue planet dive resort is located and from there we head to the most underrated diving location I’ve ever been too, eagle rock in Pulau Kambing (goat island) that’s located between bira cape and Selaya island. This is the best scuba diving I’ve been to in Sulawesi and definitely worth visiting if you like scuba diving with string currents.
Get ready for this incredible journey and the last stop in Sulawesi.

Just Wow!!!! Brilliant video, I don't know if there would be anywhere in the world you could see ancient craftsmanship on a scale like this! But now I'm going to have to plan a trip to Bira too! Thank you so much for sharing your stunning adventures Sam.
In the early 2000s, I was near this place for a project. This view is nostalgic; your video is truly amazing, detailed, and beautiful. Thank you for sharing
".... Nenek moyang ku orang pelaut... " 🇮🇩🎉
Nusantara Indonesia amazingly beautiful 😍
tiri makasih again for this Oscar winning documentary again🙏Thanks! your biggest fans from Singapore
Terima Kasih...😊
We have a national anthem with tittle "our ancestor is a sailorman". So the tradition of making enormous boat and sail across the ocean is simply has been our thing since the stone ages. And Pinisi is our pride, a beauty of traditional craftmanship adventuring above our magnificent underwater scenery.
This is sooo good. Your videos really make me want to go on an adventure in sulawesi and learn to dive underwater
A very beautiful trip by visiting Bira Island and seeing firsthand how the traditional Pinisi ship was made..The beauty of Indonesia..thank you Pak Sam ❤❤❤❤❤
ah i see chris already got his "bunga terong" tattoo from his trip across Borneo.. great to see him having fun
The music is intimidating yet the footage so intriguing,,,, simply superb video. Thanks Sam for bringing us to this masterpiece.
Other than trying to drag ourselves to the global sick world, Indonesia should look into itself, learn, relearn and unlearn the whole things, these kinda things are simply incredible stage to begin with
I agree we have so much beauty to offer to the world.
Karya mereka mendunia tak perlu di ragukan dari sebuah hasil kerja yang sangat brilian..
Its very special to see how the ships are built. I look forward to your next vlog.
New Subscriber. Fantastic experience between seeing the ships being built and hooking into the reef with the wild current.
Thank you for producing this series - really inspiring to see spots like this, so prolific!
Ini lah bukti dari kalimat =
"Nenek Moyangku Seorang Pelaut"...
Btw thanks for documentation broo...
I think they had done a good job in making the Phinisi ship even though they're having a hard time movin that ship into the sea apparently. The white tipped shark, stingray and other fishes underneath the ocean near Bira look great. Looking forward to see your next adventures aboard yhe Phinisi ship in the Banda sea.

Thank you so much for showing me one of the most presicous island of Indonesia where the quality of the wooden ships made by the local people. It has been famous and has made Indonesian people feel really proud of. Their work has inspired the song called Nenek moyangku orang pelaut ( our anscestors were the oceanice people), because these people are not only able to make hard strong wooden ships but also famous for ages as the brave people to cross the world to trade spices and concuer many other countries .

Why is this ship claimed to be invented by the Malay people of Malaysia, even though it was actually made by the Bugis people of Sulawesi, Indonesia?
