    Sorry but there is no way you will get a 20€ electricity bill. If you're running AC, washer/drier etc, you will be looking at 50 to 75€, maybe more in the winter.
    Also these places are being bought by real estate funds and turned into studio apartments to rent to students. 480 to 600€ may seem cheap but here minimum wage is close to 600€ so it is pretty sick really.

    • @ExpatsEverywhere
      @ExpatsEverywhere  3 года назад

      It's because they're solar powered. These are quotes from the property managers. They said average low bill is €20 in the solar powered building and €50-60 in the winter otherwise.

      here minimum wage might get you $1000-2000 a month but rent is $2k a month. studios start at 1500. i can barely afford to live here & moving someplace cheaper. you got multi generational families renting out 2 bedrooms.

    A "kitchen" with only a small microwave, and no stove, oven or fridge? That $650/month will quickly become $1,000/month if you have to go out for all your meals...

      There are induction cookers, and a fridge. We're in one of the units and it works fine. The fridge is small meaning you need to go to the grocery store twice a week, but yes, there is no oven. It's the second place in Portugal that we've been in without an oven. It tends to be studios and T1s that don't have ovens. - Josh & Kalie

    it was from this video that I rented in the same building as apt #3. I saw it Aug 2021 and knew it was where I would set up base. I booked for 30 days and I stayed 4 months before finding a long term apartment. It was perfect for arriving, resting, and getting your bearings. The beds are hard. if you need a soft bed, you might need a topper. The half fridge and the shower booth were my pet peeves. The wifi was fast enough for long zoom meetings. The staff are friendly and responsive. Yes, it takes a day or two but they will respond. The bldg is safe. There is street noise, of course. but you are located in an area of town you are most likely to walk around 3-4 days a week! The other 2 bldgs will require you to walk 20-30 min, learn the bus system, and they dont have an elevator. But they might feel more residential than Bldg #3. Overall, it's a great choice to start your relocation to PT without a car. Bolt/Uber is very accessible and across the street from Bldg #3 is a grocery store and a major bus stop where you have 20+ busses to choose from. There's a bakery at the street level so you have fresh bread just steps away. A few times a year the students are really noisy at night but its a downtown location so that's to be expected. Walking in the Baixa (downtown) is nice and flat which is very hard to find in Coimbra.

Lived in coimbra for almosymt 10 years and i had a 30 y old T2 with living room and kitchen and 2 balconies for less than 500€. 20-30 min walking from ckty center (up and down hills pf course), but very well served from public tranportation from 7 am to 11 pm, and lots to do and excelent infrastrucute, as well as parks.( vale das flores area). @@patricksweeney5308 likely they went up, but if you stay away from the "baixa" aka downtown, praça da República and close to the main area of the university you will feel like you will be paying a fair price for the area and flat. Those recently renewd flats with ikea stuff are very well inflated. Please bear in mind that coimbra is still a small city so with +/- 1 hour walking you have cross the city from one end to another. This places ill be mentioning are within this radius. Vale das flores, alto de sao joao, casal da eira and tovim. Areas nearby crawling in the direction of the city center are also good. For sure with the prices they are asking for those studios you will be very well served. Also, try to find a local to help you with the speaking, ive got the strong feeling they are starting to increase prices for foreigners

      @@joaoroque5333 viva! I agree, people can find cheaper places. However, don’t forget that rentals in Coimbra can get a bit crazy with students. I still remember the stories of people renting rooms that had no conditions whatsoever, and on the other end of the spectrum, parents buying apartments for their kids to stay in the city while they are studying. What I am trying to say is that Coimbra is full of extremes in the housing market, and some companies are taking advantage of it because there are people willing pay. AirBnBs haven’t helped either. At Estádio/Alma Shopping, studio rentals can go up to 500 euros.

      So happy to hear that feedback, Daniel. While these to some are on the pricey side, they're also pretty good for the price in the sense that the quality you get is nice. Often times when you go cheaper here "you pay for it" if you know what we mean. 😅 The chances of us doing Funchal or Ponta Delgada are pretty low right now because of production budget. Thanks, as usual a good video. A question about high-speed internet. In Lisbon, I found the internet to be slow in some hotels, and at Starbucks there, it allows you only 30 minutes free and then cut off. The staff could not help figure out why. Some have commented Lisbon Internet being slow generally. Is that everywhere as well? I know you did not live in Lisbon, but any input? And are cafes with free internet there?

      Country-wide it does seem to vary and some carriers are better than others depending on the area. We've had fast Internet here in Coimbra for sure. A place we stayed at in Lisbon was just okay nothing fast and it definitely didn't suffice all of our needs. We've had a hit or miss experience in Porto and that for some reason seems to be weather dependent too. - Josh & Kalie
