My great-grandfather was a calvaryman in the WW1 on the Eastern front. He was awarded with Georgiev's cross of the 4th degree, but when the war ended he exchanged this award for a sausage because of hunger. Then he went to a collective farm and worked there as a stableman. Then the WW2 came. He was 49 years old at that moment. He was drafted to The red army but he didn't fight on the battlefield. He worked in a horse convoy to deliver supplies to the frontline. After the war he came back to his village and lived a long life, working as a stableman in his collective farm. He's never talked about the war.
“The Brusilov Offensive is an excellent example of a Pyrrhic victory, as for its limited success it was done at horrendous cost, not to mention it had Germany’s greater attention turned to the east and resulted in Russia’s defeat in the Great War”
Correction, it forced Germany to step back in in order to stabilise the front. Germany did not defeat Russia. In fact, had it not been for the advent of the revolution, it is widely believed that Russia would've made a second major breakthrough... and possibly ended the entire war.
The truly insane thing to me about WW1 is how they thought throwing waves of men at machine guns was a good tactic to use. I know in all war death is possible, but it seems like the WW1 officers and military leaders just wanted to kill their own men.
I love the fact that the Maschine-gewehr m1908 (MG08) the Imperial German Army's adoption of Maxim Machine Gun and its Russian counterpart was both present here, just a simple tribute but yet honouring. Continue the hardwork! Have been your fan since the 1916 Siege of Verdun stopmotion. 😊
What people dont realize is that brusilov offensive even though a massive success for a limited time ,was a "Distracting offensive" so the pressure on northern front between Germany and russia cant be clamed and Germany forcefully divert its troop to southern Austria front to counter this front, so that Russia's main offensive could start to liberate the Baltics and push back Germans hard, but after Tsar nicholas realised that there wasn't enough forces for the main offensive, finally decided to continue brusilov offensive which not only disappointed brusilov into questioning russian military generals and high commands but also couldn't bear but just watch as the tides turned for offensive from that point on

Fun fact: In time of Brusilov Offensive happened biggest and bloodiest battle of Polish Legions in WW1, Battle of Kostiuchnówka. Poles, despite heavy loses succesfully defended against Russians. They stopped Russian advance on several days, which was important, because central powers army was retreating and they defended important point, what slowed Russian advance. They even retaked hill in a bloody counterattack without what they would lose fast. What's interesting they could and wanted to defend more time, but the wings (Hungarian if i good remember) escaped and if they stayed, they would be in encirclement. Despite this they still fought when retreating using dropped weapons and ammo by their allies. Edit: Your animations are getting better every video, great job!

Yes, provide by the British since the beginning of 1916. And stopped in 1917 after the revolution. Russian used it a lot in own Civil War after the WW1
On later parts can we get more austrian or hungarian speech?? As a Hungarian it would be nice to see such things represented but i know its hard to find correct voicelines.

Interesting fact: Brusilov offensive was the only one military operation/battle, named from the name not from the place of the battle, or codename, like "Battle of Verdun", or "Operation Overlord", but from the name of the COMMANDER of the operation.
