Great video! I live in the netherlands and we go to a farmer every week for our extra veg and fruit. They had Brussels sprouts growing in pots just to show people how they grow. Now I am looking to do this on our balcony for the new season. Thank you for the information.
Wow this is the very first video I've watched on gardening where the glory is given to God our provider for all the bountiful blessing we can have via gardening. A very uplifting wonderful surprise. THANK YOU! Just to mention I'm new to gardening with lots more to learn but very greatful to a friend for teaching me all he knew the year before he went to his eternal home with Jesus. I thank God for blessing me with answered prayer in turning my brown thumb green. Now I rely on RUclips videos as I continue to learn. God bless you!🌿
Thank you Hollis and Nancy for sharing your gardening knowledge, prayer and God's Word, Bible verses. You're both so inspiring and uplifting. I'm stoked to be starting my container garden on my patio. May God continue to bless you greatly, in Jesus name.
Followed your Brussels Sprout videos, and just harvested mine. Turned out great! I did lose one plant to the 3-day frost we had, but the rest were fine! Was amazed at how much milder they tasted compared to the frozen ones in the store. I liked these much better. Thanks for the great instructionals. Am sharing this video. Someone just asked how to harvest them, and your video is perfect for showing her..
thank you for showing how to harvest, clean, and store! there's a few gardening channels but almost none except yours show how to clean and store! my biggest concern with gardening is not cleaning properly and the getting sick, but you and the wife are so organized and clean. I feel I can do this now.
+SDMARYLOU Thank you for watching! Mostly we vacuum seal/freeze. Nancy does a lot of fermenting which I like better than canning. She has recently started a new playlist on the joy of fermentation. She will be adding a lot of new videos showing how to put up different vegetables via fermentation. You can do this👍
always love your introductions Hollis, I'm like you I never liked brussel sprouts until my wife started making them with bacon wrapped around them. mine are going good now thanks to your tips. God bless you guys
We had raised beds built today. We have never grown anything in our lives and are watching as many videos as we can to learn from others. Thank you and I hope we can grow brussel sprouts as beautiful as yours. I was especially wondering how to store the veggies we grow and keep them fresh until ready to eat. Thank you for showing me how to wash, dry and vacuum seal for freezing. I learned so much from your video.
I absolutely love your videos! Being super new to gardening you have been such a tremendous help! I started with a square foot garden and I can't wait to expand when we move to our 15 acres next year! Looking forward to learning so much more! Thank you for sharing!
Congratulations on your new homestead!!! We moved to our 15 acre homestead November 2017. We are releasing the new 2.0 videos now showing the progression of bringing our new homestead to life. You may want to check them out. You can get some ideas for your new homestead ❤️
Appreciate the video. Our first time growing Brussels this season here in Canada! I noticed you were wearing a Fire dept tee shirt. Fellow FF as well. Take care !
Watched both videos; Thank you. We've tried 4 years in a row with no success. The plants begin growing the baby sprouts but then they stop. Last year was the most successful with sprouts that actually reached M&M size. Hopefully this year will be better. Great job on the vids! Blessings. :)
Loved your blessing at the end. Thank you for this video. This is my first year to grow brussel sprouts and I really appreciate your “harvest to freezer” information! Thank you.
WOW 27 meals. ! Now brussel frozen in the store are about 2 bucks a bag. and you get about the same as you got in each pack ! So you saved yourself about 54.00 Plus Tax.
I like the introduction of your videos. It’s really quite inspiring. Maybe it’s just me. You can see the great satisfaction that growing your own food can give a person.
I have found that removing that top flower/sprout about half way to 3/4 in it's growing sescion the sprouts get twice as big. I left a couple on and removed the top on the other plants. I could not believe the difference in the size of my sprouts.
I never could cultivate a taste for brussels sprouts, broccoli or cauliflower by steaming or boiling but once I learned to bake them in the oven, I eat them as much as I can, when I find some that are decent in the store. Not able to garden but am considering some containers this year. Enjoy your videos and glad you reverence God in everything.
Thanks for the video.. I have to tell you that the greens are also delicious when eaten young, and I am glad to know that they can be frozen without blanching first. Can't wait to try it this season
Johnny Law my broccoli was a big fail last year but I had beautiful foliage so I harvested the leaves, blanched and froze them. Just yesterday I made a delicious chicken and rice soup and used the cut up greens. Someone told me that her great grandparents in North Carolina used to grow broccoli for the leaves and when flowerheads formed they used to give them away to the house helpers and farmhands. Interesting that they treated the broccoli as a byproduct, and it was the leaves they were after.
My husband and I love watching all your videos! You explain things so well! Thank you for all the time you put into making them! Quick question: how long will those brussel sprouts last in the freezer after you vacuum seal?
Very nice video! I tried growing sprouts for the first time last year. Couldn't figure out why the sprouts weren't getting any bigger. Finally just gave up and salvaged what I could. Then I learned you take the leaves off after buds form! Ah well, next year mine will look as good as yours!
i love brussel sprouts. i wish i could get them to grow. p.s. we used your idea of running marigolds all the way around the gardens. another late thanks guys!
Thanks for your info on b. Sprouts. Grew them last year for the first time, and ended up with only one stalk. They got infested with aphids. Hopefully this year will have better luck with your info!
You need lady bugs order them on line and before you release them into your garden spray it with water and turn the lady bugs loose, they will be thirsty so watering before you release them will encourage them to stay in your garden, don’t leave the lady bugs in the bag or box in the sun while you water or they will cook. Good luck.
I have the show coming up at school it’s a harvest festival one and it’s called except for Brussel sprout so I’m a bit and I hate Brussels sprouts. I’m a bit weird with Brussels sprouts so that’s why am happy
Love your video, I was actually having some steam brussels sprouts as I was watching your video, the prayer at the end was the cherry, or should I say Brussel Sprout on top. I wish mine were organic like yours were though, the Lord bless, as you try to eat healthy.
Just discovered your channel and am loving the gardening and cooking tips! Thank you! Do you have a segment on growing, harvesting and eating pumpkins?
+Tim Shipe Thank you so much for watching and subscribing Tim!! Welcome to the family ❤️❤️🐶. We do not but are planning to do so when we get set up at our new homestead. We will do a video 👍
I just learned you can eat the brussel sprout leaves. Smothered them down with onions and olive oil . They were very good. There are other recipes on the net for the leaves and top. A little bacon would have made them even better.
Great! I was going to ask about blanching them - but you answered my question. I have a freeze dryer, so I'll try drying them without blanching and see how that goes. I just subscribed - you have so many garden how to's and I need all the help I can get.
Hollis fyi -- I believe the brussel sprouts taste better than they did when you were a kid because the plant strains have been improved, they are now much less bitter than they were a few decades ago. Even the frozen ones. : ) Great video.
Thank you. I have been wondering how to harvest the five sprout plants in my garden. Several years ago a hedge hog came to share our yard. We had one Brussel sprout ready to harvest. The next day the stalk was stripped clean.
That is so frustrating when animals get into your garden. We have spent a fortune on fencing and still have to deal with an occasional critter that finds a way in. Thanks for watching. Enjoy your Brussels Sprouts. Nancy sometimes bakes them for me. I love them when they are a little crunchy.
Hi Hollis and Nancy! I found your channel a few months ago. Absoultly love all the advice and tips. You two have inspired me to do our winter garden this year. 😀. I do have a question about Brussels Sprouts where are the seeds located on the plant? I am wanting to save some to plant next fall. Thank y'all from a learning family in East Texas
I liked how you sealed your brussels sprouts with vacuum seal. Do you think you could do other vegetables like squash and okra and put in the freezer like this to save for frying? I love fried squash and fried okra!!!
+topdog very awesome!!! I am so glad y'all have discovered the joys of gardening together. It is fun and you will build life long memories together. God bless yall😇😇😇
Good information. Thank you. You answered my question about blanching. I know that I have only once had brussels sprouts cooked in a way that I enjoyed the taste. My guess is that the way they are grown, harvested and preserved impacts the taste as much as the cooking. There has to be a trick to keeping them from being bitter?
The leaves look delicious. You can eat those too. So green, pretty and healthy looking. 😊
The tops certainly.

So sorry for your loss!! Your garden is a fine tribute to your friendship. God bless you and your garden ❤️❤️🐶
I like to roast brussels sprouts right on the stalk. Presentation and taste is wonderful!
Thank you Hollis and Nancy for sharing your gardening knowledge, prayer and God's Word, Bible verses. You're both so inspiring and uplifting. I'm stoked to be starting my container garden on my patio. May God continue to bless you greatly, in Jesus name.
Over here in the UK we cook the sprout tops also, very tasty .

Thank you for sharing. And yes, homegrown don’t taste anything like what you get from the grocery store!
OMG, I just fell in love with your video and brussel sprouts ❤
Thanks for watching!
Those leaves can be sauteed with some garlic and salt.. yummy.
Oh yes!
I was thinking the same thing!!
I would advise learn how to save as much as you can of EVERYTHING
all I can say is.....WOW! Love ya'lls videos! That's the most delicious looking batch of brussels sprouts I've ever seen!
Thank you for watching and your kind words. Have a peaceful week ❤️

Keep up the good work and God Bless.
Up in north west alberta :)
I’m so impressed by the quality of the produce.
I grew mine in a container. So proud that they produced. Thanks to your video I know how to harvest them. God bless you.
Thanks for sharing 👍
Well the moose are the ones I grew on the ground so I will try them in containers next year!
Thank you so much! Clear and easy instructions for someone who has never grown Brussels Sprouts.

How Brussels sprouts grow is so interesting!
They are a cool looking plant 😎

You have too much Nitrogen. Next time you plant use only a heavy dose of Bone Meal. Do not add any other type of fertilizer
Brussel sprouts and cabbage are some of the most delicious vegetable greens.
That will be sweet!! My parent own a place in Flordia and love it there!! You guys will love it there!!
+Robert Janes
Best part is we will be near family❤️❤️❤️

Sharing your harvest is just as much of a blessing to the giver as it is to the recipient ❤️
I really enjoy your videos. I love gardening my self but I live in a very small space. I like ur methods on savings space.
+Tammy Robinson
Containers would be a good option for you. It is amazing how much can be grown in containers 👍👍👍
Excellent demonstration, thank you so much.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Love your videos. Down to earth knowledge that I can put to good use. And... love the endings... saying it with you... have a blessed day
Thank you so much. Have a blessed weekend 😇

So glad you liked our video!! Thank you so much for watching 👍
Awesome garden. This is my first year doing Brussel sprouts and I hope I get a good crop like you guys.
The leaves not only make wonderful "greens" for your composter, but your chickens and bunnies will love you for them!
+Annie Gaddis
Yes, very good for chickens and rabbits👍👍👍
I'm growing Brussels sprouts! Thanks for sharing 😁

Thanks for watching! Yep, they can be eaten and actually taste pretty good👍
Nancy here...do your own research. FDA recommends to blanch 1st to kill germs. This is what we do. Have a blessed day ;-)
Eating all those leaves like collards is great too.
+Johnny Law
Yes they are. 👍

I did not know that either, thanks for the tip. Next year :-)
Love watching Hollis videos...learn so much
Great video. Going to try growing them for the first time this year.
Enjoy! ❤️👍👍👍
Great idea with the vacum sealing and freezing👍👍
Nancy here beat to blanch before freezing for safety

Liked and Comment. The missus says she will be looking forward to me growing these for her. Thanks again
+MediaHorde
They are very good when homegrown. We love them!
I loved this, thank you so much for sharing! God bless!
Thank you so much. Have a peaceful week ❤️
you throw away the big leaves? I'd use those! as wrappers, or picke them if they come up too hard
Thanks guys great tip. I a now going to buy a sealer...be blessed
I can hardly wait to try to grow this summer 2021!
Thanks for the very informative video! Looking forward to my harvest!
Best of luck!
Well done. Loved it.
Thank you for sharing. Well done!
+Marlene Guth
Thanks for watching!!👍
Great video guys 👍👍
When it the best time to harvest mine doesn't seem to be doing great I don't think and do I need to pull the leaves off
Your sprouts look great. I always have trouble with aphids, how do you control aphids, it doesn't seem like you have any on your crop?
Amazing!! Thank you SO much for creating this channel.
Hello,
I liked it very much! Thanks for the video.
Regards,

+Tim Shipe
Thank you so much for watching and subscribing Tim!! Welcome to the family ❤️❤️🐶. We do not but are planning to do so when we get set up at our new homestead. We will do a video 👍
Great. Thank you! With your help and while I am learning, I am teaching my daughters who are 11 and 7 to garden. They love your accent!!!!
+Tim Shipe
What accent??? 🤣🤣🤣🤣❤️❤️❤️
Very good video! Garden grown is the best!
I sure hope I get a good harvest like that, I’ve had mine planted for about 8 weeks now
I just learned you can eat the brussel sprout leaves. Smothered them down with onions and olive oil . They were very good. There are other recipes on the net for the leaves and top.
A little bacon would have made them even better.
Yes, they are edible. Many wonderful recipes out there👍
Great! I was going to ask about blanching them - but you answered my question. I have a freeze dryer, so I'll try drying them without blanching and see how that goes. I just subscribed - you have so many garden how to's and I need all the help I can get.
We don't blanch them. Do your own research but I would for safety blanch them first. Enjoy!
@@HollisNancysHomestead I plan to freeze dry them - I'll likely go ahead and blanch them. First I have to get them to grow.
This is amazing.
Hollis fyi -- I believe the brussel sprouts taste better than they did when you were a kid because the plant strains have been improved, they are now much less bitter than they were a few decades ago. Even the frozen ones. : ) Great video.

I did not know that. Thanks for the top😍. We all learn from each other. Have a peaceful weekend😍😍🐶
Taking on my 2d year thanks for all your tips
Best of luck!
Most urban gardeners use harvest baskets. My man right here uses a harvest wagon. Dang you guys are the best.
+S. Carter
LOL 😍😍😍
I LOVE me some Sprouts!!!!
+Kimberly Orr
Indeed!!
do brussel sprouts are harvest only once or we plug some those small cabbages from and they will grow again.?
You can harvest the sprouts around the bottom as they mature and gradually work your way up the stalk.
Just wondering what kind of vacuum sealer you have there. I love how well it works. Mine does not work like that!

The leaves taste great cooked just like spinach
Yes it does!
I liked how you sealed your brussels sprouts with vacuum seal. Do you think you could do other vegetables like squash and okra and put in the freezer like this to save for frying? I love fried squash and fried okra!!!
+topdog
I do my okra whole. I have tried it with squash but it don't work.
Thanks! Great videos. My husband and I are just starting our garden and you have a lot of helpful tips. Thanks for sharing!
+Laurie McLean
I always wait for a couple of frosts to get on them before I harvest. Similar to collars greens
Oh, yes. of course. Some things are just better after a little bit of frost.
+Laurie McLean
Some times Nancy puts me out in the garden to get a little frost on me😀
Yes, and I think the Lord lets us all go through a few frosts to mellow us, too.
Loved the video. Very informative
Thank you so much for watching. Have a peaceful weekend ❤️
