It's naive from Edd to think that the return from these kinds of races will help other venues like Spa. If anything, it puts them at more danger because F1 and Liberty Media only care about profit and will double down on bringing more races like this to the calendar

Ultimately they want to "Americanised" the sport. American sport is filled with off-pitch drama, media circus, big egos and talking heads. In contrast, European motor racing had been the traditional home of the ultimate rich nerds who are obsessed with motor vehicles and every minute details. The drivers can be a flamboyant playboy, but at its core it is still a battle of the garage. Everybody is rude but straight forward. Now, they want drivers to be on elaborate ceremonies, to answer the media, to participate in nonsenses like DTS. Sure, it makes more money, but there's a reason even the NFL TV ratings have been on the decline. A sport with substance can sustain itself through thick and thin.

The race was great fun, but everything leading up to it was a massive cock-up. Let's not forget that people have paid a half-month salary for that practice 1 & 2 ticket, only to see one abandoned by sheer incompetence from the organisers before being send home ahead of the second session, and then get ''compensated'' with a voucher for merchandise. As a Las Vegas resident and mild F1 fan, I'm F1's prime demographic (high net worth, I own a McLaren 600LT and I love cars but I'm fairly new into racing). There's a lot of Vegas residents like me that could very easily been indoctrinated into F1. But this whole event left a really sour taste in all the resident's mouths. Even walking across the pedestrian bridges was a lesson in harassment because the security guards would scream at you to tell you to move if you spent more than 3 seconds looking at the race. F1 took every precaution to ensure that only people who spent thousands of dollars were able to get a glimpse at the cars. Instead of making the whole event positive, getting people excited to have it in town, and encouraging people to want to get CLOSER to the event and buy tickets next year, everyone just felt like it was a greedy pretentious event that they don't want to come back next year, including myself. F that.

Super bowls produces almost half a BIllion in ad revenue, and similar to the host city. Why did F1 go through the trouble of being its own promoter? to maximise revenue. The idea clearly is to make Las vegas a huge calendar date in the US, do you know Artists in the superbowl halftimeshow are paid nothing?? but they see their sales grow 300 % in the following months. The main problem with WG is that it isn't sexy enough for F1. It's in a field in western New York. If they're making noises about Spa being dropped because of $ reasons, WG has zero chance. Also, it's kinda close(American close, not European close) to Montreal. Assuming Montreal and Miami are our east coast races, Cota and Mexico in the middle, the third option should be out west somewhere. Laguna Seca or Sonoma being my preferred choices but F1 would probably do Long Beach before either of those "real" tracks.

Watkins Glen cannot support an F1 race even if it was upgraded to F1 safety spec. It is in the middle of nowhere- 5 hours from New York and 2 1/2 hours from Buffalo- and on top of that, it is so fast that it would likely be butchered. European arrogance?? Liberty Media are American, they have pushed the US agenda as the commercial rights holders of F1. Miami and Vegas are pure vanity projects with drivers being introduced as if it were a game show, they’re racers and just want to get on with racing. Every time F1 wants to do a new race we end up on a street track! Not purpose built race tracks, if that’s what they want then they can go buy Indycar and fill their boots. If they want to learn how to introduce F1 to the US then look at how COTA has been done it’s been a natural growth and it’s now an event a vast majority of fans look forward to, it’s a great track, never disappoints on racing but here we are talking about another cringe inducing F1 weekend in America.

You can ask everyone who is a hockey fan and how much they hated (some still hate) the pre show event for Las Vegas Golden Knights games. If you're watching on TV, just turn it on when the race starts and turn it off when the race ends. There's a lot of "show" in big NASCAR races like Daytona and Charlotte. I just DVR the races and skip all the bullshit. Result, no show, just race.

I also think it was quite expensive to buy tickets, though I did not double-check that one. Only read it somewhere.
Contrary to many other people, I liked the show and all the singing. All those laser lights and effects. Wonderfully done.
All in all, I just think this is a different flavor and once people are used to it, they will start to accept it. Max's main issue was the pomp and it was overwhelming, it was every Vegas stereotype thrown into one events. Now, what Straw said was also true, these spectacles are needed to fund the real race tracks. The middle ground I propose is to make the pomp and circumstance *racing oriented* make it like nothing else in Vegas. No overbearing stereotypical motifs like gambling, Elvis impersonators, and celebrities. Make it the racing world cranked up to 11, bring Hoonigan for some pre-race stuff to get people hyped, start the race earlier, and make tickets cheaper. Frankly this 'event' left a bad taste in my mouth.
Never mind the very avoidable things that went wrong, this was very much a "Bugger the racing and the fans, let's make as much money as possible" situation. As exemplified by how the locals have been treated, the corners obviously cut, the idiotic price of tickets, and the shameful behaviour of one Toto Wolf...
...such 'priorities' don't bode well for the long term health of the sport.

I'm American and this is just my opinion, but if you ask me, this whole reliance of adding super flashy and big spectacle events is starting to show its colors. I've been to Vegas before, it's a nice city, granted I was only 11 when I went there in 2006, but yes, it's a nice city and a cool place to go. Everything about me was telling me I should be excited about this, yet I just couldn't find the capacity to be excited about this. Love him or hate him, Max does I think have a point when he says things like "99% show and 1% sporting event", "an event for the 1%", and everything about proper race tracks. All the flash and spectacle becomes just that when you take away the sporting event. I personally don't care about the spectacle as I just want to see a good race, although some might disagree with me. Now in this case we did get a good race, which is nice, but that doesn't cover up any of the other things. The fact that they were dropping ticket prices pretty dramatically a few days before the event tells me that they were simply pricing out too many people and they were just trying to save face so the stands don't look half empty. If that doesn't sound like "an event for the 1%", I don't know what is.
The point is, it's one thing to have a bunch of flash and show, but I'd argue that there is such a thing as too much show. When the show overshadows the actual event, that's when I'd argue you're putting in too much show and not enough event. That's the problem I have with races like Monaco, Miami, and now Vegas. They're all show while not always delivering a good race. If you get a shitty race at Spa, you just get a shitty race at Spa. It's just that. If you put on a giant circus and get a shitty Miami race. It sucks the air out of the event, and to me just makes the whole event feel like a sham. Even the organizers of these oil rich Gulf countries seem to be able to understand this. Well, maybe other than Abu Dhabi and it's giant super expensive to stay in hotel that looks like a dick. Tourism my friends! Now I know that there will be some who will say things like "but this is Vegas" "everything needs to be a spectacle in Vegas". And I really don't know what to say to that other than saying that maybe we should have a giant circus and more flash at Interlagos and the Hungaroring, because it's Interlagos and the Hungaroring!
The Vegas race could've been a good event. It was a good race. But at some point they forgot about the sporting event. A good sporting event should include a good race. Not here's a bunch of flash and fake Yachts on fake water to distract you from the terrible race.

The Las Vegas GP is my closest F1 race, so we decided to go down at the last minute. However, for the price of the tickets and accommodation, I could fly halfway around the world and enjoy 3 days of motorsport, not just F1 sessions, and I wouldn't have to freeze in-between in the 12°C warmth of Vegas in November. I'm sure it was great for all the people in the Paddock Club and the enclosed suites by the Bellagio and Caesar's Palace, but even with the high prices, I bet it made up less than 2% of the total revenue for the event. Catering for the uber-rich isn't a sustainable plan.

They said they made 5% of their usual tips, were sent home, unpaid leave if you will during the race, construction or plain couldn’t get to work. All this when the coming days are going to slow in LV for Thanksgiving, a slow period.
Best seat was watching on TV yet the F1 didn’t tell ESPN and cable, dish customers when the next practice was so most subscribers didn’t get it recorded while sleeping or even think it would happen. It needs a class action lawsuit to rattle their gilded cage.

There is no chance, absolutely none that the money made at tracks like las Vegas will be used to keep tracks like spa on the calendar. If anything, it contributes to the chances of it being removed. It's a crying shame. Unfortunately, there is nothing, an average Joe can do against the unnecessarily rich needing these kinds of events to show that they have money.

Max was right. When 3 of the best drivers during the first laps spontaneously spin the track under these circumstances is NOT fit for racing. We want to see all drivers race and finish unless they screw up or unless they have mechanical failures, but NOT unless they have bad luck with a poor track.
And then a 20 minute drive to get interviewed only to return to the podium thereafter? Come on dudes that's cringy.
And then the Free Practise incident? Just shows the track wasn't ready.
And then offer the audience a $200 voucher so they can buy overpriced merchandise as compensation that cost $25 to produce at most? Oh please...
And yes, apart from the race being ruined for Alonso, Sainz, Norris and some colleterals by the track itself, it was an eventfull race.

Vegas has built a name for itself by being completely over the top, so this is nothing new, and especially with F1’s entire goal being to bring new people into sport it is a lot easier to get people to be brought in by the spectacle and then watch the race and either think it’s awesome or not for them. Without the spectacle there’s a good chance they wouldn’t have watched the race in the first place

All I know is the SkySports Official F1 broadcast call of the race has become pathetically biased to the point the absurd.
They can't help but accuse RedBull of everything and anything while simultaneously contradicting themselves by claiming the Lap 1 incidents with drivers Max and Charles was just Max squeezing Charles off-track on purpose and Max intended to do this.
Then they got to work for their Mercedes weekend obligations and said the very obvious and most likely reason every single car there was issues.
It's a new track✔️, the first time anyone has ever done a start here ✔️, and the fact that it was very cold and the tires simply didn't grip.
This was most likely the reason for this on lap one.
Then after lobbying for this Lap 1 penalty against Max for the first 10 min or so they got their result and the race stewards gave them a 5 sec time penalty and now for the next 5 min Martin Brundle, David Croft, and other in-broadcast driver pundits all now we're not happy with just a 5 sec penalty nope they said he should be given a harsher penalty than another driver.
If I were RedBull I would not give SkySports F1 anything other than post-race victory interviews.
They are biased, rude, and obsessed with helping British drivers and teams and hurting the rest of the teams who beat their British teams and drivers.

The race was entertaining with all the chaos and the lack of complexity of the track levelling the field for more teams. But it did not feel like a high quality race IMO. We want more teams to be able to battle on merit, not just due to randomness and chaos. F1 tracks need to strike a balance between entertainment for viewers and complexity to distinguish the good drivers and teams from the bad. This track is way too far in the entertainment side of things with so crude and simple corners and long fast straights.
I hope they can maybe add more complex corners/chicanes/curbs or something for next year. Ideally also some camber changes, though that is difficult to add to a flat city track... And fix the grip. If we cannot race there during a suitable time of day, then we should not race there at all.

Also over a hill, so I don't even see him. Road names are things like "township road 34" or "County road 318" (no those aren't real numbers. I'm not giving more than I live in the middle of nowhere in south central Ohio.) Keep your cities. I'll stay in the sticks.

Swap Miami and Vegas on the calendar or delete Miami completely

The other way around. Delete Vegas completely.

Essentially saying that "if Vegas succeeds, Spa can survive" is a bit naive in my opinion. Even if F1 made big bank on the Vegas GP I doubt they'd put too much into securing Spa on the calendar. And I don't think a resulting viewership boom would help a classic European track either.
