PIPOLADOIDA it absolutely would. CGI should only be used when 100% necessary. I can’t stand when people are too lazy to put work into practical effects. CGI used to be a way to do stuff that we could never possibly do, but Hollywood uses it now to cut corners, save time, and to save money. I just despise CGI, it’s partially why I don’t like the MCU, it’s filled with useless CGI that would’ve been doable practically and most of the CGI in those movies suck, like when Bruce is sticking out of the hulk buster or Black Panther from start to finish, it’s all just absolute rubbish, lord of the rings has better CGI than the MCU. LOTR actually remains solid and still beats so many movies today with its CGI and it was all with stuff that was necessary. IDK, I just despise lazy filmmakers with no heart or soul, simply wanting to push a halfass written film down peoples throats, not caring if it looks too shitty or cartoony at points. They just don’t care and it shows. I could rant for hours about the major misuse of CGI in Hollywood, like how the remake of the thing was fully shot with practical prosthetics but in the end the creators thought it looked too much like the originals 80s style work, which prompted them to go full CGI, in fears the practical cut wouldn’t be well received. Well they fucked up because nobody was impressed with a CGI thing, we wanted a movie with effects like the original but they were too scared and blinded by money to care about what we wanted and they didn’t even save a cut of the practical version. The only hope we have is through the view remaining filmmakers that only use CGI when necessary, I hope that one day I can be one of them. Oh! and don’t get me wrong, avatar is a great movie and 70% of it was necessary for CGI but they could have used so many practical effects. Sorry for the rant, I just love all things movies and I’ve actually written two original screenplays in the past four years. I just fucking hate CGI.
Kai McCook I did say I love all things movies, but there is also plenty of nonsensical bullshit that happens in Hollywood that makes me hate a bunch of things with movies, you know you can like something for one reason but hate it for another right?? That’s me with cgi and Hollywood in general . Armies in movies and fucking hot lava are prime examples of necessary cgi, especially the armies and lava situations in those films.... you might as well be saying they could’ve done the dragons in GoT practically or the rocket flying in interstellar, which a lot of interstellar was done practically actually which is the beauty of Christopher Nolan, a director that hates unnecessary cgi but loves to use when it is necessary. you saying hatred towards cgi is unfounded is absolutely insane, plenty of people despise it the exact same way I do... but Hollywood cutting corners using practical effects, I’ve never heard of but if people are cutting corners using practical effects that look goofy/bad, that’s very shitty and just as bad. I legit don’t know how one can defend useless cgi use, but hey! Stick to your opinion, go ahead. And no, you can’t apply all my criticism on cgi to practical effects, you just can’t. I will always have my stance towards cgi and I will always like movies that use cgi because some people know how to use it correctly but other movies like the Great Wall will always remain at the bottom of the barrel which is labeled useless films. I believe deep down you can agree that all cgi should be well done and absolutely necessary, that’s my entire argument, I don’t know how anyone can argue with it. And as far as fuck face goes, I don’t give a fuck about feelings on the internet. You being salty about an insult in a comment thread stands to reason why you are arguing against my solid argument.
For those wondering, here's a bit of Backstory: In late 2009, Sacha Baron Cohen was announced to be the Host for that Year's Oscars. But according to sources, he was planning to host with his usual bag of tricks and gags, one of which was a planned skit of him dressed as a Na'Vi and Ben Stiller acting as his translator. When the Academy heard about this, they shut down his plans and threatened to fire him, so he quit. Ben liked the idea, so he went with it himself in the end.
Maybe it's bullshit but that does sound like something Ben Stiller would do for the sake of comedy. He's the guy that brought us heroined out Jack Black and a Black RDJ.
Ben's probably one of my favorite comic actors around today, and in a lot of ways he seems to be getting better and better. It's fun to continue to do things that are completely ridiculous once in a while, as they're a nice contrast to some of his more understated (but arguably best) film performances.
For those of you who keep saying it's awkward. That's the entire point. Ben has always been funny through awkwardness. Go watch some of his movies... lol, me personally, I thought it was pretty funny. EDIT: Remember Milking the cat from Meet the Parents... AKWARD. Meet the Parents (2/10) Movie CLIP - Milking Cats (2000) HD
He wasn’t awkward, he was just being Ben Stiller. The audience was a little bit awkward, as it seemed they didn’t understand his humor (and to be honest, it’s not the best Ben Stiller has done).
I know when I entered my film into a small, local film festival one time, I tried hard to stay lighthearted and happy but it's heart pounding sitting the whole time waiting for your category. I can't imagine at the biggest ceremony on the planet for this it's much better.
Imagine waking up in the middle of the night and there's Ben Stiller right at your bedside all Na'vied up and wide-eyed, staring deep into your soul and he's just like, "Hey what's up?"
Sascha baron cohen was supposed to be dressed up it with Ben Stiller. The joke would be that david cameron got sascha baron cohen pregnant or something. This was too offensive to David Cameron and he wouldnt let him film then so Sascha got kicked out presenting the oscars because of it. True story.
One of my favorite Oscar moments ever. I really admire Ben's commitment here. And how is this still the ONLY Star Trek film to have an Oscar? Oh, Star Trek Beyond could have had one, but no. Suicide Squad was FAR more deserving. 🙄
The one and only victory a Star Trek film has ever claimed at the Oscars. And it shouldn't have been the only one, as Star Trek: Beyond should've won its Oscar for Makeup instead of Suicide Squad.
For the people who were wondering what he was saying at the beginning - he was actually saying “Pessah. boreh pri hagafen” which is actually Hebrew for “Passover” & “Who creates the fruit of the vine” which is from the Bible.
That one dude won an oscar on his anniversary night and made note of it in his acceptance speech. Home boy got soooooo laid when he got home. I bet he walked sideways for a week.
Fun Fact: This is the one and only time that any Star Trek film has won an Academy Award. (As an aside, it is absolutely preposterous that Star Trek: The Motion Picture did not win for score and visual effects. But that is an argument for another day.) Science fiction films still have difficulty getting recognition at the Oscars and it's good to see Star Trek at least get a bit of love.

but not very funny

@Shh Shh Steve Carell is funnier, I think that the whole world is agreed to that.
This was genuinely funny. Usually Oscar skits don't work, especially when presenters come on in pairs, but Stiller pulled it off all by himself.
James Cameron being like : "oh shit, I could have used make-up."
That would be actually better than Cgi I think!
