You missed the most important thing in the game, the change of KDB for Alvarez that completely changed the game. An Alvarez on the right helping Bernardo and being decisive in the following 2 goals, one taking the mark and leaving Bernardo's back free, and in the 3rd minute making a crossed pass towards Stones for Haaland goal, he also had his chance, and City could have scored 2 or 3 more goals if it weren't for their goalkeeper.

This game was like a final, absolutely unreal and City performing whether defense and attack flawless. The back 4 of City was unreal and in attack Haaland, Bernardo and Grealish relentless
Key points of this match: - WTF are you doing Upamecano?? - Bayern has some problem with finishing - John Stones is a DM all right - A box mid-field is very hard to defend against - Stop scoring pls Haaland. Aren’t you tired? - Bayern is relying on Kimmich more and more, and that’s OK - Whenever you watch football, expect magic to appear on the flanks and halfspaces
@@2ravioli392 Maybe because of your training. But I think boxes will appear more and more in the future, cause a box is just two triangles slapped together 😂
I watched the game twice now and I think this has been a battle of the defenses, which actually wasn’t bad from both sides most of the time (apart from the 15 min period of Bayern after the 2-0). And the key for MC was actually closing down passing lanes very effectively from 2 sides, not so much man marking, so Bayern‘s attacking was slowed down immensely and they had to rely very much on individual dribbling and long distance shooting. The same thing goes for City’s midfield/attackers, which ultimately forced so many risky decisions of Upamecano. On the other hand, Bayern was most of the time good at clearing the balls, but contrastingly they couldn‘t shut down the passing routes, because MC players moved very intelligently in between the spaces, which lead to a more threadfull impression overall. Bayern‘s strong 15 minutes in the 2nd leg came mostly from transitions, but City defenders are also individually world class. All in all, Bayerns offense wasn’t creative enough for such a strong defense and City‘s combination game is a well oiled machine. The only way I can see Bayern beating MC at home is by classical crossings for headers, a style of play which only Choupo is really good at due to his physicality.
Very nice analysis. Pep showing great tactical versatility these days, Who would have ever thought 5 years ago he would sacrifice midfield supremacy to have a greater goal threat, use pressing traps to create and pick players at the back strong in the air and in the tackle so City could withstand pressure comfortably in a low block. This City team has many ways to win now - and a core of steel. Bayern a little unlucky not to score, but also lucky not to concede more at the end when the wheels fell off. Definitely a performance from them that flattered to decieve, but there was a moment when the game was in the balance. If Guardiola can teach Haaland how to drop into the midfield and link play this team will become unbeatable. Should be a walk in the park after managing to show Grealish how to defend, and Stones how to play pivot - the last one is blowing my mind.
I kinda think pep doesn't wanna play Haaland as a false 9 like he did with his previous strikers, meanwhile pep tries to use him as a target man and a goal poacher.
I really like how Manchester City press high intensity in the game to frustrate Bayern Munich to get that fantastic results in the game it was a great game I love it. And Stone was so deadly in the game very aggressive also good jod Stone 🏴🏆🥇💪⚽
Tuchel for parts of the 1st also was clever enough to implement a zonal pressing where his forwards would not take the bait of Pep taking advantage a midfield extra man, they were happy to let the back 3 pass the ball to themselves while not going forward, technically it was not terrible at all from Tuchel, but City have so much fire power in every position. The weakness of City has been mentality not capability, I hope Halaand is that difference.
Muller being subbed on and having only 10 mins of playtime was criminal. City were great with their positioning, spatial awareness and switches/passes and someone like Muller on the pitch would have a considerable impact to coach Bayern on the pitch. Nothing to take from City here, they played like a team and their tactics were on point and they were efficient when in possession. Kudos to city and hope Bayern bounces back in the second leg.
I doubt it would have made much of an impact. Muller adds very little other than tactical discipline and a high workrate nowadays, he was never a proper 9. Thing is, Bayern are limited in terms of attacking depth, esp since Mane has been a flop and Gnabry is incredibly inconsistent. Choupo Moting helps a lot as his hold up play and pressing are really good, but he was sorely missed today.
@@MrSoumyaBanerjee #9 was never his role but he can always make runs behind tight defenses. Unlocking their compact defense and stretching city out was key. Even if he played in the first half for sometime, surely Bayern couldve scored one or even two goals. City were and are mad and like i said, this doesnt take anythinf away from how they performed
@@MrSoumyaBanerjee just imagine that you open your own business and you are richer than the rest and those poor people tell you that you can't put your own money to help your business, is that fair?
It was a weird game to watch in that neither the scoreline or the xG really reflected the balance of play. Bayern opened up City and created a lot of dangerous situations, but they simply didn't result in good % shots because the city defenders turned in incredible individual performances, they were seemingly unbeatable 1v1, Ake especially.
Ake may have had his best game for MC v. Bayern; he was fantastic; Pep has done amazing transformation with Ake, Stones, Mahrez...well, pretty much the whole team; I mean, who ever thought Mahrez would learn how to defend?
@@user-ed7et3pb4o Yeah...I was talking about how Pep has developed and transformed many of his players, not specfically about the game. That's what I'm on about, I guess.
one underrated thing about naglesmann's bayern was that they knew how to controll a game. they didn't concede a single a against fcb, inter and psg not just because they were great but also they had luck. and sometimes you need that luck to win the ucl. for example look real madrid's last year campaign
There is no such thing as luck. A team either plays good or bad till the last whistle. Madrid was not lucky last year, they were superior. They conceded a lot of goals but they were able to compensate for those mistakes because of their elite attack. Nagelsmann was able to draw matches and keep clean sheets not because he was lucky but because he had better tactics. Pep is a master of the game and his tactics forced those mistakes in Bayern's defense. Luck is used as an excuse for those who were not willing to fight till the last minute. Fighting for every inch, every ball posession, every shot and every cross. You don't create your own luck rather you create your own success. The Madrid of last year was the definition of not giving up till the last whistle was blown.
Actually, I think Bayern missed choupo moting the most, his hold up play and pressing makes a huge difference. Mane has been an utter flop, Gnabry is very inconsistent and Muller is not a proper 9. Bayern needs to invest in a proper 6 and someone who can replace Choupo Moting when he is unavailable.
as someone who watches all the bayern games, not just UCL I can say that your statements are wrong. They didnt control their games good at all in the league or cup
@@ogbonnasam9997 That's because Gnabry's positioning was nothing but shambolic. Both Coman and Sane are not really masterclass finishers (at least not in their current form) but if they had a 9 in to play to, it could've looked different since they wouldn't need to cut in that deep into the opponents box anymore and would take on the role of providers instead of finishers. The lack of a 9 has always been Bayerns biggest weakness and them missing out on a 9 in that match really showed that again
bruh i don't think that any team in the whole world will come close to beating city when both are their tactical best, not even the international team. what a display it was in today's game !!!! I understand that bayern are under the transition due to new coach, but still, what a display by city
Bayern played well up to the 70 minutes is because of upemacano silly mistake that cost us yesterday.... tuchel was tactically good he's not the one to be blame
@@keimotaylor6112 I think you a good point. Bayern got hit with a number of things at once. Choupo-Moting not being available, swapping out Nagelsmann for Tuchel and finally Upemecano having a shitshow of a day. Combine that with MC having one of their best games of the year and it was a perfect storm on Bayern. Bayern (plus their fans) will be like a wounded animal when we go to Bavaria. MC better be prepared.
pep just perfected the 3 center backs play using the right and left backs in fast paced attacks. it was truly a masterclass because all the players were great individually
No one really mentions Rodri, but Stones and the defenders. Rodri is a beast CDM, arguably best in the world right now - his awareness, reading of the game to break up play, receiving the ball and turning and last but not least his passing is amazing. Also Gundogan is even less mentioned, but man he is the glue to this team along with Rodri
It's a cliche, but each player was essential in this win....all came ready to play. Dias' early block? There were so many key moments and the chips fell MC's way on almost every one. Except the fantastic saves by Sommer.
Grealish reads the game so we'll especially in defense. You could see how he always looks and tries to block where a pass will go to. And do we need to say much more about Stones!!!! He was prolific 🔥🔥. And stones said it best in his interview " he (Pep) won't play you in a position he knows you can't handle".
Think it was a even match until the 70 minute. Bayern startet really good in the second half but the individual mistake of upamecano killed the whole team, 3:0 is a way to high result for me and it doesnt show the true way this match was. Bayern has a huge problem convertig their chances tho, City was very clinical and the Moment they cracked upa, they had him… hope they can somehow do some real madrid stuff in the second leg and kick city out
Some takeaways from a Bayern fan: Nervous sloppiness, the lack of a No. 9 and Müller not starting were our downfalls. Tuchel reacted too late with his substitutions. Musiala, Gnabry, Mané and Davies are out of form (Upamecano was out of form as well, but his last games were great). Kimmich and Goretzka don't work as double pivot against strong opponents. Sommer was huge but we needed him to be tall at the first goal... Sané is inform again but lacked a competent playing partner (I thought that Gnabry started the game pretty solid but lost his momentum rather quick). The game was decided mostly on individual levels and City was superior in almost every aspect, which sadly didn't even need to be outstanding. GG Edit: And f*** Nathan Aké and his brilliant ability to always magically appear in the way of our shots and offensive passes
Spot on analysis. tuchel was naive not start Mueller in such a game his calming presence, leadership, pressing high IQ, was desperately needed. Tuchel must steal Nagelsman 3 at the back with coman & Davies as wing backs if he wants a chance 2nd leg
Completely agree with this. Tuchel has gotten a lot of slack, but that purely comes from the scoreline. How many teams actually go to City and get more possession. That's a result of the shape and the tactics and it's down to the players to then take advantage of that. Bayern were sloppy
11:43 "all goals were result of sloppy player, rather tan tactics mistakes"...city could've won 5-0 if it was not of the goalkeeper...they hay so many chances
What I also saw was that in the second half, pep changed to a 4-2-4 . Setting up pressing traps, which lead to Upamecano with indecisive decisions. When Gunduwan and Rodri would mark between two players and the players in the half space We're also marked by the two fullbacks
The reason why Bayern got beaten with 3-0 -Ganabry was nowhere in pitch so Bayer was playing with 10 men against city -Upamecano is not up to his level as most of the time he was nervous and hoping delight or kemmich will clear his shit everytime. -Davis was good most of the time but he was lazy to track back. -Sane tried hard but he has no options rather then try his luck from outside the box as there was no finisher in the team.
yea they looked scarier under Nagelsmann, but maybe they are just going through the transition under new coach for now. maybe they ll get back at the level
Tuchel tactics was good yesterday it's just upemacano mistake who break the team spirit.... nagelsmann was very poor tactically and I see tuchel doing great this with this team ...if u watch the match Bayern out play city up to the 70 minutes it was mistake by upemacano who cost us this match

Bayern looks outmatched even since first half. They had some good moments but City was able to get out of pressure like it’s nothing, while Bayern players were running around getting tired (which was very obvious in the 2nd half). On the other hand, Bayern can’t build up from the back for the life of themselves. Their players were relying on dribbles too much but not producing anything. Bayern was dancing on the palm of City, and I would be surprised if this doesn’t happen again in the 2nd leg.
Clearly City was better. Though Bayerns back wasn’t really the issue, I would think; defensively they are top-notch, better than City or any team imo. Rather it’s the offensive upfront. Not to say Bayerns attacking players are inapt; Sane, Gnabry, Coman certainly are decent players - but still only decent. Their inability to create chances and keep the game upfront - despite good build-up from the back (that’s where is strongly disagree) - increases the pressure on Bayerns back, which will inevitably lead to errors here and there. Not to mention Bayerns recent change in managers. Putting on actually great players from the beginning like Müller and Mane might have changed things a little, I don’t know.
@@sebastianradlmeier8922 I agree with much what you wrote, but Mane has been an utter flop for the past 2 seasons now. Muller is technically lacking and is not a true 9. Bayern actually missed Choupo Moting the most, what they actually need is a proper 9 like Osimhen and a 6 who can provide cover for Kimmich. Goretzka, Gnabry and Mane have no place in this team.
@@MrSoumyaBanerjee now I understand value of lewandowski.what happens if lewa played in that game?. hopefully Bayern will buy good striker next season can't rely on choupo every time.
One thing that has been in my mind is when a commentator( i don't know who exactly) said " City has got their striker" . I think that alone will make a difference as compared to other years . Plus Alvarez keeps growing each game he plays. City probably has the best duo strike partners in the world rn.
Tuchel’s tactics were not that bad but not good enough. Bayerns tried to have poachers (sane, musiala, gnabry) which played in central area behind the city’s midfield ,but they lacked of quality and chemistry, they didn’t connect to each other. City were comfortable in defense. Tuchel were obsessed with direct football .Comparing to Nagelsmann which is to keep the ball more intensively.
To be fair that was Barca team that didn't deserve to be in the semis. Messi quite literally dragged one of the worst CL Barca sides ever to a semi and almost got them through to the final in that first leg. City on the other hand isn't a one man army. Them choking isn't realistic with how good of a team they are. Don't even stress about it, Bayern have no chance unless injures hit very heavily out of nowhere which simply won't happen.
Pep probably the only manager to ever made few system for one single club and all of them work perfectly. 17/18 : possession english version 20/21 : no striker, everyone play striker 22/23 : 4cb in same lineup?2dmf? 4 behind striker can be another striker (alvarez), second striker,.winger or midfielder, pep can put anyone behind haaland
I don’t know but FMS must have studied the full-match highlights a lot before making this vid. Sometimes it is hard to do tactical analysis live, especially in the UCL
I have said it before and i will say it again, alvarez is the long term replacement for kdb. You cannot sit there and watch him make those crosses, passes and corners and not think to yourself what a fine replacement he will be for kdb.
Stones has been bossing his new double pivot role. I've missed Rodri's rockets. Ruben Dias was next level..... Haaland's build up play keeps improving I'm happy about that. Alvarez would be a star in any other team and I have high hopes for him, He could replace Kevin if he isn't fit in the second leg. All in all it was a good performance all round.
Your analysis was on point, Pep didn’t outclass Tuchel like many see it, actually Bayern played really well, but both coaches tactically neutralised each other, the only difference is that Bayern made more mistakes while City were more clinical.
Im no tactical expert but Tuchel should have continued to play a back 3, Goretzka+Kimmich+traditional Bayern up the field pressing can be exploited easily by teams with a midfield as good as City's. Mane adds absolutely nothing to the team, they need to ship him and Gnabry off at the earliest and invest in Osimhen and a proper #6.
I think Tuchel made some mistakes that weren't identified. There was a large phase of the 2nd half where Bayern went to 451 and that meant they didn't have enough forwards to effectively press City's back 3. City ran riot from this phase through the end of the game. The fluid front 4 of very redundant wide forwards created problems as they never got the buildup right and it was difficult for the players to pin down who was at fault and what to fix. Coman and Musiala were allowed to lose the ball from central positions a lot. I think basically Tuchel mis-roled a lot of the front 4. I also don't understand why Bayern never passed to Goretzka despite playing in a double 6. It meant Bayern always started play on the near flank to Kimmich and rarely switched play despite dominating on the flanks throughout the game.
its not just tactics. Managing of the group, leading, training, handling the board, man management, keeping heads down after victory/getting players up after a loss, many things are factors to be a coach, knowing tactics and fancy terms alone isnt enough
I blame the bayern board, you are telling me that things were so bad that they could wait until the end of the summer? They might go trophy less this season. That's a Tottenham type move appointing a new manager at the most crucial time.
Bayern had the game in control, but Upamecano's horrendous game, Musiala's lackluster defending and Kimmich's situational lapse in defencive awareness caused the goals. And well Gnabry was not seen in the game at all.
Q from the US: obv a manager/coach can communicate adjustments to the team at halftime. But how does a manager do this during a half of football? In US basketball, football, and baseball there are time outs (a limited number, yes, and usually used for different reasons in each of those sports, but still, a coach/manager can stop play to talk w players). Prior to a match does a manager lay out all the responses the team will make to changes the other manager could make? To all players? Or does the manager only talk to the center back, say, concerning possible defensive adjustments?
tuchel tactically lost even though the defense did the right things about putting pressure. tactically mediocre on offense. I think it was a mistake to send the coach who plays offensive football the most effectively, nagelsmann, maybe this match could have been beaten, but we could have seen a more enjoyable Bayern offensively.
Tuchel’s attacking player weren’t putting any pressure ,not keeping the ball much ,not intensive. They lacked of qualities. Tuchel has got no idea how to play offensive
@@andythesaladgod4578 nagelsmann is a well-known offensive manager and that's why he came to Bayern. The goal percentages of all the teams he coached are quite high. The bad performance in the last matches cannot be attributed to him alone. Fortunately, time will justify nagelsmann !
The game actually demonstrated everything I expected, except the flattery score line. No disrespect to City, but Bayern could have easily had a goal early both halves, yet City deserved to win. Crazy game, end-to-end stuffs. Wish my team can actually play like this on a regular basis. Not playing with a striker and the brain-dead Upamecano gave leverage to City. Congratulations to City. Maybe its coming home this time. Looking forward to the return fixture.
It was a heavy weight battle of tactics but unfortunately this was the only outcome as the city players looked sharper, more fit and much much hungrier than bayern players. And also, majority of this group has been together for sometime now, so absorbing the coaches instruction is easier. Another problem is Tuchel likes to tinker a lot, him changing his back 3 and moving upemecano to the right of it destroyed all the good he had done. It was also naive of him to try and push for an equalizer, could've taken the 1-0 defeat and put it all on the line at the allianz arena. And the dude just likes changing things, did this at Chelsea and lost the dressing room, it's difficult for players to adapt in a game, especially if they didn't practice what you are asking them to do. This is not a video game, most of the things players do on a pitch is instinctive, and that's driven by habitual behavior that needs to be cultivated on the training pitch, not in a high level Tuesday night European games.

Pep showing great tactical versatility these days,
Who would have ever thought 5 years ago he would sacrifice midfield supremacy to have a greater goal threat, use pressing traps to create and pick players at the back strong in the air and in the tackle so City could withstand pressure comfortably in a low block.
This was a Pep Guardiola MASTERCLASS. Nuff said
both managers tactically were so good today but the individual quality of city was just too much
After all this tactical jargon, what wins football games is individual quality especially in the final 3rd. End of story
I really like how Manchester City press high intensity in the game to frustrate Bayern Munich to get that fantastic results in the game it was a great game I love it. And Stone was so deadly in the game very aggressive also good jod Stone 🏴🏆🥇💪⚽
Everybody knows its useless to press against bayern, so most of the team fail, not city😂
There were phases where they didn't press at all tbf. Often enough they were standing in a low block
This man city deserve 1 ucl at last what team what a coach

Yes. Ake especially
Ake may have had his best game for MC v. Bayern; he was fantastic; Pep has done amazing transformation with Ake, Stones, Mahrez...well, pretty much the whole team; I mean, who ever thought Mahrez would learn how to defend?
@@braveswin1 Mahrez didn't play??! Idk what you're on about. Stones was excellent though
I believe City won't need that luck this year. They are blood thirsty and any drop of blood is enough for them to go for your neck and butcher you
as someone who watches all the bayern games, not just UCL I can say that your statements are wrong. They didnt control their games good at all in the league or cup

Bayern sure is missing Lewa or a proper 9 today, Choupo would’ve been a proper danger man at the box, Gnabry couldn’t fulfil that role well
Thats the point
No, chupa would have starved in that position because city limited the ball from getting to gnabry

@@keimotaylor6112 I think you a good point. Bayern got hit with a number of things at once. Choupo-Moting not being available, swapping out Nagelsmann for Tuchel and finally Upemecano having a shitshow of a day. Sweet revenge for Pep in this match, and Tuchel got some thinking to do for the home match 😆
If its not great saves by Sommer City will score by 4 or more goals
Could have been 7-8
No one really mentions Rodri, but Stones and the defenders. Rodri is a beast CDM, arguably best in the world right now - his awareness, reading of the game to break up play, receiving the ball and turning and last but not least his passing is amazing.
Also Gundogan is even less mentioned, but man he is the glue to this team along with Rodri
For me it’s the best defensive performance I’ve seen from Rodri in a city shirt he was perfect and seemingly was in the right position every time 😂
The way Rodri shut Musiala down was immense
It's a cliche, but each player was essential in this win....all came ready to play. Dias' early block? There were so many key moments and the chips fell MC's way on almost every one. Except the fantastic saves by Sommer.
Grealish reads the game so we'll especially in defense. You could see how he always looks and tries to block where a pass will go to. And do we need to say much more about Stones!!!! He was prolific 🔥🔥. And stones said it best in his interview " he (Pep) won't play you in a position he knows you can't handle".
The 3241 formation at city is a piece of art
Weird !! I see no comments about Bernard Silva !! This player is pure genius.
Think it was a even match until the 70 minute. Bayern startet really good in the second half but the individual mistake of upamecano killed the whole team, 3:0 is a way to high result for me and it doesnt show the true way this match was. Bayern has a huge problem convertig their chances tho, City was very clinical and the Moment they cracked upa, they had him… hope they can somehow do some real madrid stuff in the second leg and kick city out
Lol, real won't be able to comeback from this
Lol. 3 -0 flattered Bayern. We had so many guaranteed goals if not for Sommer making amazing saves.
City wasn't clinical IMO.
All bayern had in the game were half chances.
Man city had opportunities to go 2-0 at half time alone.

@@tomasgomez1906 na, we gotta credit them
Some takeaways from a Bayern fan: Nervous sloppiness, the lack of a No. GG
Edit: And f*** Nathan Aké and his brilliant ability to always magically appear in the way of our shots and offensive passes
😂 that last bit
Ake and blocking shots. He is crazy.

Completely agree with this. Tuchel has gotten a lot of slack, but that purely comes from the scoreline. How many teams actually go to City and get more possession. That's a result of the shape and the tactics and it's down to the players to then take advantage of that. Bayern were sloppy
"1v1's" Bernardo was taking them on 3 v 1 and making them look silly 😅😅

This one was tough for tuchel with him still settling with the players …. 2nd leg very key to be very aggressive and take more risks😅
The reason why Bayern got beaten with 3-0
-Ganabry was nowhere in pitch so Bayer was playing with 10 men against city
-Upamecano is not up to his level as most of the time he was nervous and hoping delight or kemmich will clear his shit everytime.
-Davis was good most of the time but he was lazy to track back.
-Sane tried hard but he has no options rather then try his luck from outside the box as there was no finisher in the team.
Bayern sacking Julian Nagglesman was the worst decision which directly led to this defeat. Imagine sacking someone who has 100% win rate on UCL

Tuchel’s tactics were not that bad but not good enough. Bayerns tried to have poachers (sane, musiala, gnabry) which played in central area behind the city’s midfield ,but they lacked of quality and chemistry, they didn’t connect to each other. City were comfortable in defense.

To be fair that was Barca team that didn't deserve to be in the semis.

That was really cool thanks
You have to be a Coach...you understand football ⚽
Being a coach isn't easy it's so hard in reality u need to keep your players motivated there's so much pressure

Bayern had the game in control, but Upamecano's horrendous game, Musiala's lackluster defending and Kimmich's situational lapse in defencive awareness caused the goals. And well Gnabry was not seen in the game at all.
For me whatever Rodri did yesterday was both amazing and dangerous. He was not a complete CB.
Stones stepping out from CB is more technically better than a RB/LB stepping in cause of the distance to recover being much smaller
tuchel tactically lost even though the defense did the right things about putting pressure. tactically mediocre on offense. I think it was a mistake to send the coach who plays offensive football the most effectively, nagelsmann, maybe this match could have been beaten, but we could have seen a more enjoyable Bayern offensively.

This is not a video game, most of the things players do on a pitch is instinctive, and that's driven by habitual behavior that needs to be cultivated on the training pitch, not in a high level Tuesday night European games.
you are making me intelligent, thank you!
