Normally a base / liner would be used before Amalgam placement to create secondary dentin formation and act as a thermal and chemical barrier - lessening or stopping any sensitivity. DyCal and Hydroxyline are products that worked for amalgam. Although DyCal was shown to desolve over time and allow the amalgam to loosen, Hydroxyline was in a resin matrix that sealed tubules stopping microleakage.

@@uzmatahira I think you should reach out to another dentist if you are unhappy with the original's work. If after the filling was placed, any high spots were not adjusted properly, this would affect your bite.
I appreciate the music instead of the sound of dental air tools the entire time! Interesting video! I just had one done, due to a surprise hard piece in my food. I chomped down, then *ouch*…anyway, again, very interesting and a well-done video!

Interesting vid. But I've never been to a dentist next day for amalgam polishing.
Not a required step. I always polish them if I get a chance, but I don't ask the patient to come back just to polish the restoration. I do it when I get a chance, but you can't do it before the amalgam has set.
We don't ask the patients to do that, because its not necessary dude.

I thought dentists put a white substance which has a distinctive smell few days before applying the amalgam, could you specify the name of that substance?

If the cavity is quite deep something called Zonalin & Eugenol could be applied as a lining.

Zonalin also needs some sort of liquid to emulsify it. Eugenol is an obtundent.

This existing restoration was perfect! What was the reason to recommend replacement with poor composite technique?

Edward Dergosits there was no preexisting restorations! I don't think the technique was "poor" especially for 2nd year students
Edward Dergosits This is on simulated teeth 😂. There was no caries, nor was also no previous restoration. They are plastic teeth used to to train students on cutting different classes of cavity and restoring them.

As I watched the video I noticed they used a rubber dam similar to the one we used in lab. The started off by prepping the tooth, then added the restorative material which was amalgam.layered the amalgam and proceeded to work quickly.

What about the dycal and the varnish ?
Dycal should be use if the cavity is deep and close to pulpa. If we're not, dycal is not required.

In many countries, except some third world, it is ILLEGAL to use mercury amalgam fillings. Mercury is one of the most DANGEROUS heavy metals on the periodic table, even worse than arsenic. The off-gasing of mercury ions caused by eating/chewing or drinking hot liquids causes a "time-release" effect of heavy metal poisoning which ends up in brain, liver, bone etc causing: neuro-degeneration, alzheimer's, depression, anxiety, memory loss, tinnitus, nerve damage, DNA mutations, reproductive harm and so much more...
Ignorant/deceived dental professionals will tell you it is "safe", but ask yourself this; IF it is so safe, WHY would they give you a "release of harm liability form" to have your dr sign so they can proceed? Why would they have a hazmat ventilation hood and full hazmat suits with respirators? Why would they need to log ALL used and unused mercury materials with the EPA and subsequent governmental agencies? Because it is HIGHLY dangerous to simply be around, let alone "HANDLE"... And they want to put this in your MOUTH?
Do your research before getting any type of dental work done, mercury is in NO WAY safe, and they KNOW this but prefer to lie to you because it is a cheap effective material for fillings...
Use composite resin or pull the damn tooth out! Don't play with heavy metals, you have NO IDEA how truly dangerous they are! I spent 6 years doing chelation therapy because I was exposed to mercury "vapors" while working in a warehouse next to a GE manufacturing facility. The levels I was exposed to were LESS than what a amalgam filling would be and yet it caused PERMANENT nerve damage in my left arm. I can't feel anything in my left hand anymore... Only go to dentists who know the dangers of mercury amalgam, use COMPOSITE RESIN instead...
