Good work Michael, great to see how you do these quite technically tricky jobs with basic hand tools and simple processes. Awesome. Also a fan of the quiet exhaust, there’s enough noise in the world already!
Discovered your youtube and man my family are really enjoying your videos, we love the fact that you don't cus as my school aged kids love your trips at the outback, and it's good to see you do outdoor cooking and my your own healthy lunches, instead of the old easy noodles, keep it up bro excellent
gordon peden Yeah, I agree. I'm too old for that stuff now, but I've done a hell of a lot of it over the years. Now, I just book the job in, tell them what I want done, go into the rec room and make a coffee and read a book.....lol
Mick, you do great videos mate. I love your sense of humour and the way you wangle it into your videos, and as another post says in here, there's no swearing, it's all family friendly, (I'm no prude, but you do yourself a favour by not swearing) and you cover just about every aspect of the 4x4 ing scene. Love your videos and since I've only just found your channel, I'm slowly wading through them.Keep it up mate. Well done.
I have installed 3inch straight from the turbo, no cat, just one free flow resonator. And everytime i’m on a high boost and need to hit the brake, there is no back pressure from the throttle. So it makes my engine has a hesitation like a empty, and the engine feels like want to stalled, especially when i’m driving with AC on. I have done some engine mods before, like a remapping the ecu and change the boost, bigger injector, swap the turbo blade with 11 blade and oversize the blade as well. And then i put one center muffler that was design for a turbo diesel, and i haven’t got that problem anymore. I take it to the dyno, and the number is a little bit increased from before. Not all the bigger is better, or the free flow is better. Cause diesel especially the automatic ones, needs a lil bit of backpressure fo building the boost. IMHO 🙏🏻
G'day Mick Well done on the install mate, I stumble across your channel a couple of days ago and subbed right away, awesome content bud. Looking forward to the next video. Just a thought mate maybe a summer trip to Esperance might be a good one to add to your list.
Since you brag about your cleaning skills, can we please see a video on how you clean underneath your vehicle, especially after been on the beach? Awesome exhaust by the way!
Well you need to decide what works for you 🙂. But I just wanted to mention that this install was filmed over 3 months ago, and so far I have been extremely impressed with the paint, after a couple of beach runs I was expecting to see rust just like my exhaust, but so far it looks like the day I put it in. I guess time will tell, salt works wonders on steel 😂 All the best choosing an exhaust 👍
@@SeekAdventure the paint damage which I observed was during the install so nothing to do with wear and tear and as mentioned by you and others, the sound is disappointing. I'm not necessarily referring to the "loudness", but rather the note of the sound. No need to defend Manta, you've been honest with your video and any remarks such as mine should not detract from their value proposition, mainly their price point and workmanship. Just watch your fuel tank video which was great. Keep it up. Cheers!
Stainless is actually easier to weld , but can be nasty stuff too drill and cut if your not equipped for it. Stainless also trends to bark as far the exhaust note goes too. Stainless is awesome , had stainless zorst on my old Falcon for 15 years and looks like it will do another 15 years.
interesting video mate thanks for posting but surprised you did not use anit seize on all the other bolts might have to give the next exhaust swap ago myself cheers
First thing I did to my new car are EGR block, sports pipe and dyno tune. oil catch can and secondary fuel filter. The only problem with bt50 and ranger is there are no grease nipple on drive shaft.
Hey Steve, it is always interesting what people do to their 4wds first! Everyone has different priorities 🙂 After buying the Bt50 I had a month to get it ready for a trip, all I was worried about was getting the 12v setup finished. That's odd, my Bt50 has grease nipples on both the front and rear driveshafts. Maybe the older models were different 🤷♂️
@@SeekAdventure True, the older model are better than new one, even has stronger turbo on old model. I think the first thing should do is Block EGR, Its for the long run of your engine health. My engine oil stay in clear after 7000km since oil change.
I agree I don’t like noisy exhaust. Excellent video on the install. Always like watching vehicle upgrades, particularly this one as I have aBt50. Did cut the exhaust with a angle grinder ? Thanks
what is your profession michael? i see the stuff you do and have no idea how to do that with my ute, which again worries me about going more and more remote. how do you get to learn all that stuff?
Hey Paul, I was just a touch over a grand. Just like every other accessory, a grand here a grand there 😦. Yes, thankfully the dpf's weren't in the early models 👍
3 inch exhaust = better flow bit more power bit better fuel economy . Quite exhaust = no cops on ya back no yellow sticker Ya dont have that horrible drone noise and ya dont sound like a wood duck . Id prefer to go the stealth exhaust too . But everyone is different. Another great vid again from seek adventure and great to see your using W.A. gear when available 👍
Not so simple, mate. If the original exhaust was properly designed, it gives the optimum backpressure to aid performance and power at one speed, usually highway speed although it could also be set to work best for urban delivery, low speed use. Going to a wider pipe can mean less exhaust gas scavenging and worse performance on a stock engine. Combustion engineering isn't simple, folks get PhD's in it to do that work.
This is a turbo diesel engine Lyfan, back pressure doesn't matter 😉 That's also why you buy an exhaust from a reputable company like Manta, they know what they are talking about 👍
Engines are designed to run to optimum performance and then detuned for emission figures and noise etc so they can be marketed as efficient. The important thing mentioned is to have your motor retuned to the new exhust. Increasing the exhaust size does let the motor breath better but as for being more fuel efficient that is unlikely. Yes you will get slightly more power per fuel burnt but in 95% of cases we use that extra power and actually use more fuel
Manufacturers spend a lot of time and money maximising their engines and exhausts for optimum economy and then performance. They use well educated engineers with well proven mathematics to come up with an ideal exhaust size. If you think that throwing on a fat exhaust cobbled together by a small garage business that no one outside of you region has heard of is going to make things better for the average owner, you have been misled. The internet is 90% bs. Think about it - why would Mazda, or any other manufacturer, put on a less than optimal exhaust for the average use? If you’re doing something atypical with the vehicle that needs a different power or torque curve and can live with the compromises that the alteration brings, then great, but otherwise use the standard exhaust diameter unless you have updated the induction system, turbo and fuelling.
@@nickboylen6873 Your welcome to your own opinion mate 🙂👍. But if you do a google search you will see that its not just one person's opinion that turbo diesels do not need any back pressure 👍
Performance exhausts should only be used with tuned engines and improved induction, not on stock engines. For a given gas mass, wider exhausts will give slower flow. Go too big and you will cause flow problems - as the exhaust velocity decreases from oversize exhaust, its pressure will increase (the reverse of what happens in a carburettor choke chamber), back pressuring the flow and causing stagnation. That’s how cherry bomb exhausts work, stagnating the gas flow so you get a series of blockages and overpressures, which is why they decrease performance. Think about it logically - car manufacturers spend tens or hundreds of thousands on developing each new model, and they want to extract the peak efficiency and performance from their standard engine, so the exhaust will be sized to best ventilate the engine.
Hey Nick, That's why it's great dealing with a company like Manta that specialises in performance exhausts, they clear up all the myths that go around like what you mentioned. Turbo diesel’s don’t need any back pressure, you could go to a 4inch even without any side effects 🙂👍

how many hours did it end up taking you! It took me 3.5 hours ..!

Hi great vid. Was that big fat round bit on the header exhaust the DPF, or is it some where else on a BT 50.
Do you have to put gasket on dump pipe from the turbo?

The gauge for the exhaust temperature is called a Pyrometer.
Most Aussies are too lazy to call it that, normally we just say pyro gauge 🙂
What are your thoughts of the BT50? Generally?
Very good. Should sound better too. I was surprised that the original is not stainless. I thought all cars came with stainless exhausts these days.
Cars are configured to meet the needs of the average buyer hence you don't get a stainless exhaust, good suspension, good tyres, the list goes on...
Tractorisation.
Why you no grinder?
