  • Hello friends! I experimented with making clay pins! Despite watching other videos beforehand, I made some mistakes during the process (especially during glazing). I hope this video will help you avoid my mistakes! I also show you a preview of one of my projects for the new year: painting on the backs of postcards to record memories from my travels. Hope you'll stick around to see those develop!

    I had this happen the other day and I mixed gouache with the glaze. I essentially made coloured glaze and painted my pins effortlessly. Once it dried I applied another coat of clear gloss and it didn't streak!

    Use a varnish or gloss that is NOT water based in order to prevent smearing the paint. Since you are using water-based paint, using water-based gloss means it will reactivate the paint layer and make it move/smear.

    If you want to paint with gouache/watercolour on clay, use natural (earth is best, but paper works too) air dry clay! It's pouris, so the paint soaks in and doesn't reactivate so easily. Best of luck haha!

    Girl your videos just keep getting better and better! So glad the gesso tip helped! To get less texture with gesso you can also water it down some and do a couple of thinner layers - most artist that gesso their own panels almost always water it down. I never do because I just don't have the patience for it - I'm like "let me get to painting!!!". LOVED the pins you did! That tomato was SOOOOOO CUTE! And what in the world - 14 countries?! I suddenly got the motivation to make some pins after watching your video so thanks for that ☺️ and they actually turned out kinda cute! So glad to hear they turned out cute! I personally not have tried acrylic paint varnish myself so I can't say for sure. If you've already painted the pins, my advice would be to paint a test patch on the back of a pin or on a sample clay piece and apply the varnish to see if it smudges or not! Good luck! I hope your pins turn out well.

    what happen if you don't glaze/cover with resin?

    • @AWonderfulSheep
      @AWonderfulSheep  4 года назад +5

      The varnish or resin protects the pin, so without it the color would probably scratch off pretty quickly. Especially with gouache, since it's water soluble, the paint would wash off if exposed to water.
