As you can see, the player has to move their pieces and defeat enemies to acquire more land and military personnel. The chess pieces represent the people that lived in the Middle Ages, the pawns being the peasants/commoners, the knights being themselves, the bishops being the aristocrats or upper-class commoners, the rooks and queens being nobility (barons, lords, noble lords, grand Burghers, counts, viscounts, Palatines, nonroyal princes, margraves, landgraves, altgraves, burgraves, prince-electors, prince-bishops, and other royal titles under a duke), and the kings being the members of the royal family (dukes, grand dukes, archdukes, sovereign princes, grand princes, and other royal titles above a duke but lower than a king).
