On its northern end Hempstead borders the very rich town of Garden City. There's no barrier like a river separating the two towns, just an ordinary street. The Garden City PD are notoriously tough about protecting their town.

Nassau County has been ranked one of the safest in the entire county but generally places like Hempstead or parts of Freeport are known as the "bad" areas. Also if you go into Suffolk County check out parts of Amityville, Wyandanch, and Huntington Station you can find some interesting areas over there.

Looks ok to me. Clean streets, well maintained homes, I didn't see any graffiti . I saw only one vacant house which had fire damage. Almost every storefront was open with a working business. It's not Garden City but it looks like a working class neighborhood no different than most of Queens. Hempstead does have a relatively high crime rate .
