Who knew that such a master of irony in humour would not only be a singer, but take on a hopelessly romantic song such as this. Some people have so much talent it's frightening.

Honestly, it's not a surprise, given the level of care he puts into the Family Guy songs. I'm legit surprised he hasn't produced a musical yet, he could've had a decent career or that.

My brother, Joe, passed away last week. My mother said she woke up humming this song softly outloud the other night She used to sing it to my brother Joe as a lullaby.

I remember seeing this when it was first broadcast and really being struck by it. The atmosphere is just so intoxicatingly wistful. On my last night in the house I lived in at university back in 2015, it suddenly came back to me and I couldn’t get it out of my head. I laid in bed in the middle of the night and listened to it, reflecting on the time I’d spent in that place, and the prospect of leaving it, and made peace with moving on. From then on it became my ceremonial leaving song.
Today I left the house of my grandmother for the last time, and in the early hours of this morning I came here once again.
This performance has proved itself an invaluable companion in times of transition such as this. You can’t stay anywhere forever, but that isn’t necessarily a bad thing.

Very nicely done. Refreshing to see a younger singer actually singing in this older more melodic style. Good voice, beautiful arrangement--just lovely!

Well, he was 39 at that point, so hardly a kid. And yes, it WOULD be nice to hear younger musical theater singers performing in this "older" more melodic style!

Seth MacFarlane has a gorgeous baritone voice and performed this song flawlessly. He'd probably be wonderful in a production of "Most Happy Fella". I've heard his "Ya Got Trouble" on RUclips as well, and think he'd make a great Harold Hill. I'd love to hear him do "Soliloquy" from "Carousel" sometime. He definitely has the range for it.

    • @hrh4961
      @hrh4961 2 года назад

Wanted so much to like this rendition, but it's just too "pop" for me. I want to hear it with a baritone who has a buzz and point to his voice. And doesn't need a microphone. This is too Perry Como/Bing Crosby crooner style.

    Joey, Joey, Joey
    Like a perfumed woman
The wind blows in the bunkhouse
    Like a perfumed woman
    Smelling of where she's been
    Smelling like...
    Oregon cherries, or maybe
    Texas avocados, something like
    Arizona sugar beans
    The wind blows in
    She sings to me
Cause I'm one of her rambling kin
    She sings
    Joey, Joey, Joey
    Joey, Joey, Joey
    You've been too long
    In one place
    It's time to go
    Time to go, oh
    Joey, Joey, Joey
    Joey, travel on
    You're been too long
    In on town
    And the harvest time's
    Come and gone
    That's what the wind
    Sings to me
    When the bunk I've been
    Bunking in
Gets to feeling too soft and coze
    When the grub they've been
    Cooking me
    Gets to tasting too good
When I've had all I want
All the ladies in the neighborhood
    She sings
    Joey, Joey, Joey
    Joey, travel on
    You've been too long
    In one place
    And it's time to go
    Time to go, oh
    Joey, Joey
    Joey, Joe...

Good comedy is often misconstrued as cynical. It's more about poking fun at bullshit honestly without pretention and phoniness. Most celebs deserve to be made fun of because they take themselves so seriously and Family Guy just takes on many who need the hot air let out of them.

@@DA90027 True! Satire is a characteristic of a civilized society. I was just surprised to see McFarlane so romantic and he did not at all satirize it. That really fascinated me because all I had seen of him before was either his cartoons or his nasty (and very cynical) roast shows.

He would definitely get an A in vocal jury but he would so get dinged on his final for his inability to take a stance and stand in one place. Profs would say, he is losing too much emotional energy shifting his weight from foot to foot - and they would be right! But his voice is really glorious.

This is nice, but honestly I much prefer Judy Garland’s upbeat version to this one (or, for that matter, Art Lund’s or Leslie Odom’s). Actually, Nancy Wilson’s jazzy version is really nice too. Just a preference. The mark of a good song is that different singers can sing it successfully in different styles.

He has a wonderful voice, but his acting skills aren’t strong enough to pull off telling the story of the song. He kinda sways and croons, but there’s no emotional connection to the words. This is fine for a concert, but I don’t believe he could pull off doing a Broadway show. Still a huge fan of his writing.

A decent and full West End/Broadway voice perfect for the stage and musicals, maybe even light operettas. I'll never be a fan of his animated work (nor of those people who made the older Simpsons for the same reason). Biased **** (expletive deleted) against married straight men portrayed as childlike morons and oafs rescued by their long-suffering women (wives and daughters). Shallow propaganda for the radical feminists, and culture warriors who despise anything traditional, such as loving couples with unique qualities, and men who are adults not overgrown children.
