By the way, sorry about the excessive camera shaking.

The Amtrak units with the hatches look quite interesting.

I agree. I've been wondering when they were installed.

Random Railfan Probably sometime when they are getting upgrades if you ask me. It’s a good thing because they need this for operation into GCT.

Sounds like we need to see the MARC cab cars while we can!

But the route to GCT is supposed to end on Labor Day, that's about 3 months. Why spend the money if AMTRAK will resume operations to Penn Station. I've got to assume that cutting those hatches ain't a "nickel-and-dime" process. Seems to me it would be cheaper to lease the MARC cars for however long they did. AMTRAK seems to have a penchant for spending money without thinking.

Cats01 I guess, but then the MARC cars have to go back, and it will be easier for Genesis locomotive operators. Whatever the reason, I don’t know. However, for me it does not make sense to give them a hatch but not the new paint scheme (only on those still with phase V livery).

The bridge on Amtrak's West Side Line to Penn was being worked on so for the summer they were running into GCT. Some of Amtrak's P32s didn't have the front hatches so they put the MARC cab cars up front, which do.
