I don't think it was a typo there. Koop's dad just didn't know that she was female (dragons probably have male sounding voices). At least that's what I always thought when I first learned about Hooktail's gender.

Buy a xbox elite v2 controller ^^ everything is perfectly map able. Might take some effort but its worth it. Still not as good as pc but a big step in the right direction.
@maxnum1sgameclub263 I remember hearing about that, such a great win for accessibility too! I loved remapping buttons on the Steam Controller, but the durability of the shoulder buttons were so horrible they only lasted maybe 200 hours of play.

Yep, Nintendo's button layout is the OG. Sony changed to symbols first, then Xbox wanted to be edgy but was too much of a trust-fund baby to pull it off effectively so just swapped the button placement...

Nintendo has kept their ABXY arrangement the same since the SNES controller in 1990.
Xbox is the one that chose to be different.
To be fair, Sony deviated first with their shape-centric button system. Granted it was directly related to the failed partnership that created the CDI, so that does technically put the blame on Nintendo for not going with a disc-based system earlier.
@@jamesproctor4568 In Japan, the Playstation layout works very similar to Nintendo's. There "X" is used for "Cancel" and "O" is used to "Accept", just like "B" for "Cancel" and "A" to "Accept" on Nintendo.

i always find it funny how people say that the xbox layout is the one that should be used, when out of the current 3 consoles, nintendo's layout was first. xbox just uses sega's layout with different colours.
Yeah, strange how people assume xbox should be the normal layout when nintendo created it 11 years prior to xbox (and 4 prior to PS)
It's probably because Nintendo went through a LONG period of having drastically different layouts than the 4 identical buttons in a square.
So while the SNES did technically do the layout first... Nintendo went on to do the N64, Gamecube and Wii that used completely different layouts. It wasn't until the 3DS and WiiU that they returned to their YXBA layout (Meaning 15 years of not even having a consistent layout, let alone that specific one)
Meanwhile, both Xbox and Playstation have been consistent in their layouts throughout their existence making them more memorable. With things tipping in favour of Xbox because Xbox controllers are natively compatible with PC so any PC players using controller will likely be using an Xbox one (With the recent Steam Deck also using the same layout)

Regardless, Nintendo has no reason to change the thing they've done for decades just because some dweebs at Microsoft decided to flip it around.

The fact is, they had a long period where they didn't use this format (N64 was released in 1996. DS was 2004. Meaning 8 years where the format was not in use at all)
It was even longer until a main console, the WiiU, released that reused this format (2012, meaning 16 years after the SNES).
Nintendo has no reason to change their layout. However, their lack of consistency is why people are more accustomed to the Xbox variant (Which actually originated with the Dreamcast. All MS did was swap the colours around) despite Nintendo creating their variant first.

I was really hoping to find this comment. It bugs me too that people try to claim Nintendo are the ones that used the wrong button layout even though the B A buttons were in that order since the NES in the 80s and they added the Y X in 1990 with the SNES. Microsoft wasn't even a household name until closer to 95 and people try to act like their console from 2001 gets to set the standard for controller button layouts.

Actually, STeam lets you change email addresses. So you could literally give the login details to somebody else, then all they need to do is change the mail address etc.
