    What a great plane! Sold my 182 for a T206H. I’m more of a high wing guy 1) gravity fed to engine; don’t have to worry about the fuel pump going out as much 2) always wants to right itself with the weight at the bottom and the wings up high 3) I live in the desert and it’s so nice to hide under the wings for shade 4) great view!! no wing below to obstruct your view 5) if you have to land on a highway, the high wings clear all of the road markers - low wings become a sign plow 6) not sure on this one but they seen to be able to carry more weight. Thank you and congrats! I trained on the 182 - almost a perfect airplane!

    After 2500 plus hours in 182s I can say it is the best all around civilian aircraft ever; with the 300 HP, it is the best of the best. With full fuel it will haul anything you put in it, and operate out of a marginal dirt strip with ease😀

    Once I got my PPL in the 172 I upgraded to the 182 which gave me my high performance check out. To me the 182 was just a truck with wings. Great performance, respectable payload. If you could get it through the door the plane would probably pick it up. The one I flew was a 1967 model and it had a huge 2 blade prop.
    3 blades for Show, 2 blades for GO !

      I did my PPL in a 152, getting into a 182 RG with variable pitch and a turbo o-540 was a revelation.

    did you guys know that a propeller is just a big fan to keep the pilot cool? when it stops You can actually see the pilot sweating. Very considerate of the person who invented this fan!

    I spent quite a bit of time in a 182 a few years back for work. 600 hours on the pipeline as an observer. As a student pilot at the time my captain, a CFI, would give me dual when off the clock. The company was amazing for allowing me to do this. 20 hours in my logbook and so many amazing memories. The 182 is THE airplane. I'd love to make one for the sim, it's been on my mind for some time.     I've been a passenger and pilot of a few T210s for 30+ years - huge high-wing fan - super stable, great utility & just workhorses. Love your hot rod 182. Impressive performance. Watching your climb outs has been pretty fun! On the contrary, low-wing single engines, specifically Bonanzas and some Debs; fast(er) overall and way sexier, all day long... Great purchase on the 182, btw! Congrats.

    Guys, I live in Phoenix. When are you going to take me up? (PPL 2021 here!) I love that 182. Some wheel pants will give you 7-10 kts extra, and it’s a fantastic plane to fly in AZ year round. Congrats!

    3:06 - I wonder if those are the Qantas 747s? I did a short hop on one in Feb 2020 as they were due to retire and I hadn't been on a 747. I know they're just bits of metal but so much time and care goes into an aircraft. Mixed feelings about seeing them like that.

    I like the 300hp in your 182, especially with an 11.7g fuel burn, although I didn’t see the details of MP, revs, Tas.
    Anyway I sold my 182Q last year which I owned for 10yrs, it was a ‘78 model with fuel bladders. A great plane albeit a bit thirsty on the fuel, 47-53L/hr, maybe the MP gauge was not calibrated. Always regretted not getting a fuel flow computer installed when I first purchased it.
    We have a little Piper Cherokee 140 now, 150hp, 1967 model, the great thing is it uses way less fuel, I no longer think twice before I decide to fly it somewhere.

    I think Owen said it all...great platform to do training....basic all the way through advanced and instrument, if you guys are so inclined. Much better option for that than the Bonanza. Just got to respect that muscle in the front. Especially on go arounds....all it wants to do is go straight up and to the left...so have to expect that. Hope you keep this for a while will be great content and as I said great trainer.

    I used to fly. Learned in a high wing and logged about 400 hours in high wing. I love them. Low wings are fine but not as much fun or as forgiving as the high wing.

    I got my private and instrument rating in the C172, but I got the high performance endorsement in the C182, so yeah I definitely prefer a high-wing even though I have plenty of time in low-wing aircraft. You will enjoy getting your tickets in this workhorse of yours. Enjoy!😊

    a good rule of thumb is; the faster or more powerful a craft is, the faster a neglected small problem becomes fatal

      You have to respect those 300 HP and not make the mistake of letting the extra power give you a false sense of security. The airplane is faster and will climb like a rocket, but the extra power can get you into an escalating problem much faster than you are used to, especially if you are transitioning from a 172.

    I’m a high wing guy (182T). I fly to observe my real estate developments and the low wing would block my view. 235 HP and 160 knot cruise speed is fine for me.

    R182 owner here, it’s hard to beat a 182, it has so much more versatility to it. Side note, the 182 is a trim airplane, I use a lot of nose up trim landing.

      I’ve never had a trim tab break on a 182. I did have trim runaway on a Beech 99 though. Once I round out in the 182, I give it two healthy spins of the trim wheel, grease job every time.

    That’s actually a plane I almost bought at auction a couple years ago. I believe it was a California GIS survey plane. That large window was for a camera gear. Cool plane. Guess I should have bought it when I had the chance.

    Got my seaplane rating in a 182 with EDO floats. Great performance on land and on water. All small single engine props will require right rudder inputs on takeoff due to P factor (propeller takes a bigger bite of right side air) making the plane go to the left. Good job u guys.

    Loud alternator squeal... You just need to run new audio wires (ground wrapped wires) from the back of the audio panel to the jacks. Typically, that age will use the body as the ground and the solo or dual audio wires to the jacks.

    I owned a 1972 vintage 182 for a number of years. Used to fly to Baja alot. Landing on some very remote stips right on the beach. Great aircraft.

    I learned when flying a 182RG to keep the throttle "cracked" while in the flare. Once you have the nose, cowling, and sight picture correct, then close the throttle. That nose will drop without throttle during landing.

    You should get the current MSFS, it is a great study level tool to help prepare you for your PPL. Get the right SIM controls and you basically can build a simulator that is vary close in terms of realism. Great job guys!

      I agree grab X-Plane 12 or MSFS and get some good flight controls and you'll save a ton on flight training. I recommend X-Plane due to the more accurate physics

    Fly how you wish, but, I have over 2000 hours in my 1979 182 flying in AZ. If you use 20 degrees flaps on landing and trim on final for a little back pressure, you'll use less elevator on landing and simplify a go around if you need to, or add just a burst of power for a bounced landing recovery. Absolutely crazy to use 40 degrees flaps for normal landings. (You'll just be wearing out your flap tracks). You'll be slower and more subjective to a cross wind gust. Specially in AZ dessert. Nice plane.

    Those are nice planes, I'm not a high wing fan but I do have about 900 hrs in a 182 flying piplines in Texas and New Mexico for a couple years. 6 hrs a day 6 days a week and you can really build your time in a hurry. Hope you enjoy that beast.

    I have a bunch of hours in the 182 RG . 10 to 12K feet it does good but with a turbo we were doiing 29K feet with ease . Good plane that is .

    Jeff when I started flying I could not get the use of the rudder figured out. I was raised in the north and on a sled where you push right to go left. The runners are backward from a ;lane. Oh, my Kobota tractor the trothal is also backward from a plane.

    I have only ever flown a cessna that looked very similar to this and it was amazing. I don't know how this is allowed but when i was in 7th grade i chose to be in civil air patrol, as a result of two years as at whatever ranks and positions i were in, i was allowed to fly it in 8th grade. The pilot taught us how to recover the engine, do flips, and let us do fly while he took his hands off (he kept them within an inch, was more to show that it was actually us.)

    It all depends on the use case. It's a great 135 airplane. As a trainer, you sure wouldn't want to turn a 30 hour pilot loose in it. The nose wheel would be driven up through the firewall in no time.

    Love the new plane. I would normally not be a fan of the 182 (unless it had the engine upgrade), but the 300 HP engine makes it a great airplane for Arizona. It looks like a clean Cessna.

    The C-182 is an awesome aircraft. If I had the cubic dollars to own a plane of my own, it would be hard to beat the 182 for versatility...but 300 hp sure ups the ante for versatility. Managed to log 46 hours in a 182 way back (1970's) when I did my Commercial Program, loved that plane.

    They are nice little birds. Just keep an eye of the fuel pump on the cont engines. Been years now cant remember which had the AD on the fuel pump. Damn actually wished i knew about that stol kit when i had mine. Fun little aircraft. Visibility for traffic is something that you will figure out overtime as each of us is a different build.

    The cross winds and snap rolls definitely favor low wing design however, there's something magical about flying high wing aircraft I can't quite put my finger on it.

    That was the first thing I noticed about the Cessna 182 when I first flew them. was the heavy feel and heavy nose. Sounds like Cessna 206 or 207 now. If I can ask couple of questions. Are the ailerons drooping? And on the main landing gear are they round spring steel or leaf spring?

    Just remember, step on the ball. Those big engines produce a ton of yaw, have 500 hours in a 300hp C206 that had crazy acceleration on takeoff, but the yaw was pretty extreme without correcting it.

    I bought a 182 as a student pilot just after solo and flew it 800 hours before moving on to a Bonanza. Great airplane, but I hated the carbureted O470 engine.

    Aircraft insurance policies often specify that all flying is to be done from the left seat unless the pilot holds a current flight instructor certificate or has specific authorization

    Watched your Garage Channel since the start, when you and Parker were hanging out. If I recall correctly You had the e92 m3 and Audi S6.
    But anyway I love Cessna so Much. ! High wing all the way. You should get FS2020 just for the fun of it, there are 2 182 Cessna’s. The 182T turbo charged fixed gear and a 182 RG mark 2 NA engine. Love you’re video! Live the dream !

    I fly a 210. But I always liked my Super Viking (low wing). The 210 is almost as fast but hanging from the wing is not the feel of sitting above it like a fighter . The Debonair is the perfect plane. Especially with a io550.

    low wings switching tanks....yuk. 182 is the way to go. Keeping the power in a little on landing I had to get use too. They drop like a rock otherwise.. Speed and power are lots of fun. Good luck with it.

    I dont get the I cant fly the Cirrus half the year. I learned in a 2003 Piper Archer III at DVT and it only had 180hp and then switched to 172's with only 160HP after the Archer was sold and all of them flew just fine in the Summer. We flew early before it got too hot and went North where it was cooler and when we came back after breakfast yeah it was 110 degrees but it flew and landed fine. I now have a Turbo Arrow III and have no issue with DA

    So no faster, a bit more fuel, but climbs like a homesick angel.
    I flew a 182P for about 400 hours, looks like the performance is in the climb rather than the cruise, but your fuel flow at cruise isn't much different...about 1.5 gph more.
    Trim is your friend when landing. I used to keep 30 lbs of water in 5 gallon totes the baggage compartment for ballast. If you need the weight, you can just leave it by the trash at any airport and you aren't out a lot of money.

    How about backup Navigation in case. you guys to much reliance on GPS.
