    I drew up that shark teeth decal sketch. It is closer to fan art right now than business. I wanted something to get stuck in peoples' (or Aptera's) heads to think about customizing the looks of an Aptera in hot rod fashion. I don't have a print shop myself to make vinyl wraps and considering I could use automotive vinyl tape and a razor blade. I based it off of the Flying Tigers in WWII. The fact Aptera has an actual nose cone makes it perfect for nose art. It be fun to see what people come up with.

    LA Auto Show is usually towards the end of the year. If there is one this year, would be nice for Aptera to have a couple of prototypes or production models there to show off.

  • @deanmcmanis9398
    @deanmcmanis9398 3 года назад +4

    The key point here is if the Aptera (as a 3 wheeled autocycle) will qualify for these subsidies. $10K off would make a HUGE difference in the Aptera's perceived value. And open up a much bigger group of people who could afford to own one. One benefit for me getting my Aptera later in 2022 would be if they can qualify for this or other big EV subsidies, it would make it worth the wait. I think that the auto closing door is just from gravity. Like most gullwing doors and rear hatchback doors, they have gas struts, and a stay-open position when fully opened, but lower than that the doors are pulled down by gravity and latch close by themselves. It's unlikely that Aptera would add electric motors for a powered closing door or "soft-close" latches, when a simpler, cheaper and lighter approach uses gravity and a well engineered, door, hinge, latch design. But sometimes vendors lower the cost of "luxury" features enough so that they are found on more economical cars (like electric powered windows and air conditioning).

    • @donnysnonsense
      @donnysnonsense 3 года назад +1

      But it's not $10K "off" the MSRP since EV credits are tied to your tax liability and are not magically subtracted off of the purchase price.

    • @deanmcmanis9398
      @deanmcmanis9398 3 года назад +1

      @@donnysnonsense Yep, that is why there are new programs being put forward to offer direct federal rebates at the time of EV purchase. I just hope that there is a consideration for including autocycles in any government EV subsidy programs, as that's the most important part for us Aptera reservation holders.

    • @fanfare100
      @fanfare100 3 года назад +1

      I think I agree with you about the door falling of its own weight from gravity. My hatchback does exactly the same when I don;t open it up entirely because the gas struts are beginning to give. Unfortunately my read hatch does not close entirely and I have to open and close it to get it to click all the way shut. lol

    • @fanfare100
      @fanfare100 3 года назад

      @@donnysnonsense So, in other words, this seems more like one of those tax-breaks for the rich. lol

    • @deanmcmanis9398
      @deanmcmanis9398 3 года назад +1

      @@fanfare100 It is important to not dismiss EV tax subsidies out of hand because it only benefits people with higher tax liability. The reason why I got into supporting EVs was because of my experience leasing and owning Chevy Volts. The Volt's lease price was immediately reduced because the leasing company figured in the tax subsidies into the monthly rate. For me that meant that I could drive a new, electrified car for just a little more than i was paying for in gas alone. And that is an EV incentive that would be great for students and lower income people looking for reliable, clean, transportation.

    • @geemy9675
      @geemy9675 3 года назад

      as I understand current $7.5k EV tax credit only applies to 4+ wheels cars and 3 wheels would only get maximum $2.5k or 10% from electric motorcycle tax credit
      www.irs.gov/credits-deductions/individuals/plug-in-electric-drive-vehicle-credit-section-30d
      but unlike what the video says I don't see how the new 2021 electric cars act changes the category for the aptera. only mention of the number of wheels is
      "(2) 2- AND 3-WHEELED PLUG-IN ELECTRIC VEHICLES"
      www.congress.gov/bill/117th-congress/senate-bill/395/text?r=6&s=1
      so I don't think it's going to change. I would probably reserve an aptera short range/tri motor with solar panels if the $10k tax credit was confirmed

    Having motors in the wheels means the unsprung mass of the wheels is a huge problem:
    force=mass x acceleration or acceleration=force / mass so when the Aptera goes over a bump in the road the acceleration of the front wheels to lift the front wheels over the bump is very slow because of their large mass so the whole vehicle rides over the bump creating a very bumpy ride for the batteries, passengers & body of the Aptera. The stresses on the tires wheels & motors could damage them over time! If you hit a bump at high speed the tires could blow out! That is why low unsprung mass on a vehicle is usually a design goal? Like in German start-up Sono Motors affordable EV that can run on self-generated solar power alone. The Sion solar car will be sold for 27,873 USD. Drive is a three-phase asynchronous motor driving the rear wheels with a power of 120 kW (161 hp) & voltage of 400 V. Top speed 140 kph (87 mph). Sion has 50kW CCS DC & 22kW AC charging.

    Would be best if over 95 percent of us American's could get a under 20000 price tag without a tax break, because most people are poor. Also yes if people love everything about the Aptera sol and might find a way to pay for the car , if people really start to see people actually getting a tax rebate for purchase of the Aptera, because other oil and car companies always grease the law makers to stop three wheel competition, so I think Aptera could be a big player if no tax break was needed. People are going to pay up to 20000 price anyways on any car and after taxes people say it feels like paying 30,000 and more because most people don't have good steady jobs these day's and have a hard time paying for school and making ends meet on there own for alot of people.

    I hope the aptera will make it to production without delays and will be able to fullfil the preorders. I think it's great to focus on lightweight efficiency, super impressed that they manage to make it 25% lighter than a Miata with much more room and a 60kwh battery, or almost 2x as quick to 0-60 for similar price before tax credit for the short range tri motor version.. and excited that they are planning a 5 seats version, but I really think they should have gone straight to 4 wheels/ 4 seats for the first version. right now with 2 seats it's really only for commuting or single/couples without kids.
    I can't really really justify a second car if it can't even carry my wife and daughter. even though more than 50% of my trips would work with just 2 seats. orbit could be a good second EV for a small family that already has a larger ev. but it wouldn't want to need to use my ICE every time I drive more than 2 people. I guess being a very niche product was not a problem for their first low volume model and they wanted the best efficiency and decent solar range but I cant help wondering how much range/efficiency it would lose with 4 wheels and 4 seats. 250miles is already comfortable for the shortest range version considering it's more suited for commuting/city driving than long road trips.

    So I wonder if anybody considered designing a vehicle set up using a joystick instead of a steering wheel like an aircraft design where you have joysticks on both sides of the car & you can drive the car from either side the pedals could be moved forward or backward depending on which side of the vehicle you’re driving and that will eliminate the issue of people in Europe that drive on the opposite side of the road, as that would be a huge reduction in cost, as this vehicle will be sold internationally!

    People continue failing to understand how EV credits work. They are tied to your tax liability and are NOT magically subtracted off of the purchase price of the car. For example, let's assume you buy a $45K Aptera which is eligible for an imagined $10K credit. That credit is applied to any money you may owe Uncle Sam at the end of that tax year and nothing more. If you don't owe any money in taxes, you won't see a dime of it. Even if you owed $10K which was offset by the credit, you still paid $45K for the car since that's what you financed. These are not rebates or refunds that you get back at the end of the year that you can apply towards the balance of the car to reduce the actual purchase price. It's why I get so sick of hearing EVs advertised as "you only pay X amount after incentives" making people think they are getting a discounted price.

      You can reduce your withholding so that you do owe $10,000 at the end of the year. A good question is, can you carry over the credit from one year to another if you don't use it all?
