  • How to treat rot on cactus plant? What to do it your succulents start turning dark or show signs of fungal infection?
    This is how I have saved many of my own plants from both rot and rust (a fungal infection that turns the plant's skin orange). I recommend keeping these handy if you are collecting cacti and succulents:
    - Rubbing alcohol
    - Sulfur powder (fungicide)
    - Grafting Stock

    Thanks for the comment about not fearing underwatering, definitely needed to hear that. Okinawa is mad humid too, and I must practice patience with my cacti!

      You got it! It’s been raining non-stop in the disgusting swamp that I call home (south Florida), so I will not water for the next month or maybe even two with maybe one exception - pachypodium. Non of them mind one bit.

    How did the grafting go? Would love to know an update on how the damaged cacti healed and what it looks like now as well as the grafting!

    Learned so much here👍🏻 I will be buying that sulfur fungicide ; I had never heard of it. And thanks for the tip on Not watering. I just transplanted some cactus and Haworthia, and it’s so tempting to water them , but I held back and left them alone.

      Glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching. They really have no problem with drought although they’re quite dramatic 😅

    Oh, I did not know you can graft a piece of cactus without the tip! Thanks for showing this and good luck. I hope you got that fungus out for good. 🙂👍🏼

    Thank you for the information. I have some sulfur on the way. Wish I had it a little sooner though. Thanks also for the "don't water tip" too. However on that note, I have lost a few from not enough water but that's just me. I am still after all these years learning. I'm in the Florida Keys & it's been challenging.

      Thanks for watching! The keys must be tough… curious how you know they died from not enough watering? Many other causes of death can make plants appear dry, giving the impression of death by lack of water but I’d be willing to bet drought was not the culprit.

    thanks for the informative video my friend. I have a question; i have a lophophora cactus and have developed some orange/brownish rust near the top and sides... not soft or anything but was concerned it may be the start of a problem... do you think this treatment would be right for this problem? thanks again,

    • @RareCactus
      @RareCactus  Год назад

      Hi there! Yes it would, if the orange spreads I would cut off all the infected tissue. It may be a fungal infection called “rust”

    Do you have a video about your set up? I'd like to know how you have your plants placed outside. I am also in South Florida - the humidity and fungal infections has been a struggle right now :/

    0:23 is this a variegated penis cactus? That surprises me, I thought penis cactus was a clone race of a rare mutation, and variegation was a semi-common mutation. But then it should be impossible to have a variegated penis cactus, unless they are all variegated.

    • @RareCactus
      @RareCactus  Год назад +1

      That’s correct! It’s a variegated or is cactus which is incredibly rare 🙂 Plants never want to follow any rules 🤣

    Hi my ariocarpus confusus seems ok but some parts of the root are a little soft is that normal?

    • @RareCactus
      @RareCactus  3 года назад +1

      A bit of softness could be normal and due to dehydration. As long as there is no darkening of the skin, it should be ok. Thanks for watching!

      Thanks so much! I do a little of both but I am restricted by space because living in south Florida means all my cacti need cover from the rain 😅

    Do you ever spray your cacti with sulfur diluted in water?

    You may get lucky, but ime tbm grafts without areoels on the scion will not pup.

    • @RareCactus
      @RareCactus  3 года назад

      You may be onto something. The graft failed but the plant survived, so I consider myself lucky 😅 Thanks for watching.

      @@RareCactus haha that sucks but glad you still have your mother plant. It's a gorgeous cactus. When I make tbm grafts I like using young pups and make sure that there are a few areoles left on the scion. If you make another attempt at getting a piece of it grafted I hope that helps.
