Thank you. I have a cacti that’s had a collapse in the middle and I might have to cut and re pot him. He means a lot to me I’ve had him for over 8 years
@@CactusCaffeine ach you actually save them when there like that cause last night my barrel cactus split and now the whole thing is mushy and will probrably have to be removed do you know if it can still be saved
Thank you for this video. My 2-year-old Cacti suffered a similar root break today... I was really sad, but I've followed these instructions so far and I hope it makes it. It means a lot to me.
I’ve found that the main thing is cut the plant until there is NO BROWN OR YELLOW! The vascular bundles run thru the branches and trunk of any plant, it’s a ring inside the plant, roughly halfway thru you’ll see dots or an entire ring but in succulents it’s often dots, the rot will advance up those first and fastest, the rest of the tissue may be healthy but if there are any yellow or brown dots then you need to cut further up the plant and hope it not may it too far
I know this is an old video but THANK you for this!! I’m treating my first little cactus for overwatering (I’m buying a moisture meter to avoid this again lol) and was worried I’d cut it wrong or hurt it further, I feel more confident now and have faith in my little cactus baby!
Anna, you are the queen in raising your beautiful cactuses with flowers. Pls. help me. I finally bought the Levington Tomorite Tomato fertilizer. It was delivered today. I have only six cacti plants so far. I have plants for six years, but only once i saw a few little flowers. i never gave any fertilizer to them. So please give me the exact amount of water I should use and how many ounces of the fertilizer. There is 1.3 ltr in orange bottle. I have not watered for about five weeks.
I only use half the strength recommended in the bottle. Then use it on the first 2 waterings for spring. Alternatively, you can just mix 1/3 strength and use it every time you water during spring.
Great video, Ana. Hopefully it’ll send out new roots very soon 😊 Love the flowers on these, I hope the one you sent me flowers this year, it’s doing really well. Thank you for sharing, Ana, happy new year to you. From Edith & myself as always, have a wonderful day and week 🌵☀️🌸🌺🌼☕️
Cactimania, that Rose Quartz that I sent you came from the one I showed in this video. It is a tough cactus and it flowers easily. I do hope it gives you plenty blooms. 🌺🌵🌺
Thank you for sharing this info! My Prickly pear snow cactus was completely rotted at the bottom. I have the cuttings sitting now. Would love any advice for potting for roots and when to water. Thanx in advance
Just make sure you cut off all the rotting part and let it fully callous before planting. Then give it a few days before you water and start with very little water gradually increasing when roots start to grow. 🙂
Hi there Cactus Caffeine! I wanted to know how this pup turned out after you repot it, I’m planning to propagate a rattail cactus I adopted that unfortunately has a split and blackened base (not mushy or smelly so I do not believe it’s root rot), I figured I could cut that blackened section and regrow.
What is the update for the cutting? I have a trichocereus cactus that I’ve been growing for a little under two years and it has recently started falling over as well. Considering cutting and trying to replant but would love advice and updates on your little guy!!
This cutting was doing good at first and looked like it rooted. But then it got sick from the top and got mushy. Must be bacteria of some sort. It succumbed to that. 😔 But all the other cuttings are doing great and have all flowered this year.
So sorry to see your Lobivia pup has rot but well done on saving it, and you have made a brilliant surgery on it, it will recover really well, your Lobivia's are gorgeous and the flowers on them are spectacular
I've had my little cactus for 2 years received from my best friend. It's been growing so well but tosay it just fell over 🥲 so I'm here hoping to save it!!! I'll let you all know how it goes
Thank you again for your info! You don’t suggest that that take direct sun? I ideally let them for four or five hours only because then we get lot of rain and Miami is very humid!
How much can i cut away from a caktus? I have a golden barrel catus, grapefruit size an it have a starting rot (i think) i will re pot it and then look underneath it, but will that work (worst case cenario) if i remove the bottom of it with the root? I absolute love this chanel, just found it 💚
My cactus is rotting from the root it’s 8 years old and it’s like five foot I have no clue what type it is. I changed the potting soil and tried it out completely is there anything else I can do to help it??
Yes! Cinnamon has anti fungal properties so it helps stop rot. Some say it helps form roots as well but I have no proof on that. Rooting powder is really optional. It can speed up the process but Cactus will form roots just on their own. 🙂
I did not water it right away because I sprayed my soil with water first. So it was already a little damp when I planted the cactus pup. I watered it after 3 days when my soil was completely dry. 🙂
I have a bishops cap Cactus. It is like leaning a a tiny bit soggy but not black.. it kinda looks like an elbow at the stem. Should I cut it or try sunlight
Is it leaning because it is following the direction of the sun? If so, try turning the pot around so your cactus will straighten. But check the bottom and make sure it is not soft and browning, in which case might be a rot (hopefully not). If your cactus is still growing then it is not rotting.
Sadly his stem is a tiny but brown and looks like an elbow and is a lil soggy. I sat him in the sun yesterday and it didn't help so I'm gonna try to remove the dead tissue let it callus then add rooting hormone. Thank you
I didn't realize when I potted him that he had soil real compacted around the root but oddly all roots look healthy. I think it jus cause moisture to collect around the weak part of the stem idk. I bought him at CVS lol so he was probably real neglected. It's crazy because it was perfect until I put him in Schultz soil. Even tho it was fast draining for seedlings it jus had the original soil so compact in that area ... I hope this method helps me save it
is it bad to cut your cactus as you did but not wait for it to create a callus? I didn't realize you needed to do that. I cut it and dipped it in rooting hormone and just potted it yesterday. Will this kill it?
The rooting powder has a different formulation. I have not tried bone meal although I have read that bone meal may also encourage root formation as it is high in phosphorus.
My tiny catcus is yellow at the bottom. I'm so afraid to cut it cause it already so small 😢😢 but I don't want to lose my little catcus. I'm not even sure what type it is or the right soil to use. If you have any tips please help me.
Love your video, I am a plant lover too, will you give a chance to test out okaysou air purifier and give it an honest review? That is perfect for your plant room.
I just don't have any faith in plastic pots. They just hold too much moisture. Also I've recently increased the amount of small pea sized gravel to increase drainage. I put enough course material in the pot so that when I water, the water almost immediately drains from the bottom.
Two of my larger cati Had the little bugs in them, I manage to remove them with some rubbing alcohol and q tips. Is there anything else i can do to help my cati?
Just keep an eye on them. If they were mealy bugs, watch that they do not come back. Sometimes they hide in the roots as well. Then you would have to wash off the roots and spray with alcohol solution as well.
Cact-us Brix, oh my Brian! I hope you and your family are well. I heard about the earthquake there in Puerto Rico. Stay safe. I hope minor damage on your plants, too.

Hello, im repotting 3 cacti that got rot root, do i expose to sunlight immediately after repotting, or slowly increase?
Keep them in bright shade until they have rooted. Then you can slowly increase sun exposure. Good luck!

Many Lobivia like direct sun. But I find this particular one burns easily. So I keep it under a shade cloth.

You have to cut off everything that is rotting from the bottom then let it callous. Then replant the good top part. Good luck! 🙂
