  • Let's talk about one of the most variable genera of cacti in the world: Astrophytum. How many species does the genus have? How do you care for an Astrophytum? Is the care of an Astrophytum asterias the same as a myriostigma?

    Great video! I love Astrophytum! I grew some myriostigma over 5 years ago, believing I must sow many, many seeds as I would lose 50% each year for the first 3 years.. 🤔 (something I read on line).. So I ended up with close to 200 seedlings..
    Whilst it's true I lost a good third in the first year, after that, they continued to thrive so I am now somewhat over run with them! 😆 Good job they don't grow very fast.. 💚
    Capricorn's my favourite!

    Wow , your knowledge and collection is quite impressive. I knew nothing of this plant , and now I want to see and learn more. I have only 1 asrtophytum myriostigma that came in a tiny 4 inch pot. It grew very well on its own outside on my protected porch for a year, so I just transplanted it into a much nicer home with gritty soil. I would be very excited to see mine bloom.🤞

    Wow, this was a really good and informative video that I enjoyed. Most of my cacti are all Gymnocalycium, but I do have Astrophytum asterias, Astrophytum nudum and Astrophytum myriostigma. I hear that these Astrophytum take many years before they will bloom. Is that true? As for me, I grow my cactus for the Flowers! :) Thanks again.

    Very interesting! Thank you so much for the educational video. I love this type of material. I've been wanting an Astrophytum, but the stores in my area do not seem to carry them and the on line stores don't have the kind I want, the ones that are covered in white squiggles. (How do you like that Latin!? Aehh?)

    • @RareCactus
      @RareCactus  10 месяцев назад +1

      Yes, you can repot it. Best time is spring 🙂

    • @yaddahaysmarmalite4059
      @yaddahaysmarmalite4059 2 месяца назад

      you can repot them anytime, but not without consequences. the best time for least consequences is when they are dormant; that's usually in winter. you should learn about trimming cactus roots before repotting.
