      its expensive to manufacture clothing in the USA in fact any brand that doesn't make their shit in Asian sweatshops is priced just as expensively. You have to pay your seamstresses well over $15/hr to manufacture your goods as well as using all real deal high quality hardware and materials also isn't cheap. Find me a high end brand that doesn't sell their pants for ~$1000? Gucci does, Louis does, Saint Laurent does, Prada does, Dior does, etc. a lot of people hate on shit they don't even understand.

    The fact the matter is, unless u got millions to spend on ads no matter the talent, its all about networking. U have to be seen and be ready wen u make that connect. Move to the major cities, go out and be social. Networking is the "major key". I know ppl who are so talented, with their own boutique, and still scrapping for pennies to stay afloat. Then I know ppl who are sub par and got $50,000 from an investor for their so called "fashion line" and doin runway shows. Network, keep pushing, and know that theres no age limit or time limit and f*ck haters. Jerry took a over 30K chance. Alot of ppl with more talent wont even go that far.

      Facts , jerry was cool with baseBall beast modes manager who was cool with Bieber who was cool with Kanye and the rest is history. Had Jerry not had these connects then he probably wouldn’t be famous or big as a brand. I don’t knock him because he used his leverage well, but not crazy about his designs either . Same with Virgil

  • @drewcarr7286
    @drewcarr7286 5 лет назад +230

    Raf simons wasn't formally trained in fashion either. The non-traditional designer thing is wrong, people don't like him because...of him. The way he acts on social media, treats other designers, acts like his clothes are the second coming of jesus when they're just a season ahead of pacsun at this point.

    • @THECASUALco
      @THECASUALco  5 лет назад +48

      Raf started in furniture design. A form of design and classically trained in design methodology. To even put Raf and Jerry in the same league of design would be intellectually dishonest.
      To address the "how Jerry acts" argument, honestly that's more a personal assessment which I can't speak on. Everything said here is from an objective point of view and judging by your own comment it seems you do in fact take into account his treatment of other designers and his personal take on his own prowess of design next to more skilled individuals. More succinctly, how you put it, "him".
      This video is on Jerry. No love no hate just an assessment of what research has born but your opinion is respected and well received. I just disagree the assessment being unequivocally 'wrong'.
      ~Reggie

    • @drewcarr7286
      @drewcarr7286 5 лет назад +5

      THE CASUAL You’re right, I just meant the comparison in the sense that both weren’t formally trained in designing clothes. I guess Virgil would a better comparison but even Virgil majored in civil engineering. I guess it depends on your definition of non-traditional. Personally coming from a background of taking a couple years of fashion design, the things you learn are very specific to the industry so i consider anyone who hasn’t gone through that, non-traditional. If I asked my engineering friends to pattern out a full scale assymetrical front and back bodice. They have the same chance of understanding that as someone who never went to college to begin with. Now the engineering major might pick it up a little faster, but not a significant advantage over anyone else.

    The Fear of God clothes are tight. No doubt. The reason people hate on Jerry is because the story is fake and his persona the same. He says he had to fight his way through the industry. Not really Jerry you're a rich kid who's father was a major league coach. You didn't need to grind to raise money for patterns and samples. That invoice was covered. You also had friends like Kayne who got you connected with stylists like Karla Welch and other celebrities which made your marketing extremely easy in comparison to other brands. It hasn't been the struggle for him that he would like you to think. He talks about god and love, but when one reads your instagram comments a different persona pokes through. Theres no doubt his brand cool, its heavily influenced by real designers like Rick Owens and Jerry has a great team of people at FOG like Jeff Lazaro. Good luck to them

    They are those that watched what happen, those who heard and talk about what happen, and those who made it happen. Which one are you? People will always talk, but ideas are recycled and made unique. Look at music samples, Ancient Greece and Egypt. It’s a admiration to the greats but made ones own. You take inspiration and ethos and live by that. It’s different when you don’t think and try to replicate something. A good example of that is Barbara Kruger and supreme. But art is for the taking, the doers, and those who are ready. Things can be handed to you but it’s what’s done to them that matters. Jerry was 35 yrs old when he launched like that’s a sacrifice to the family too. Live your own lives or you’ll live for others.

    the real reason people hate jerry lorenzo is bc of his history? that's the reason for the video? i'm confused. i thought people hated him bc of his claims for being a humble, god-fearing man yet comparing his FOG 1's to the 1985 jordan 1's plus other outrageous boasts, or stating in various interviews that he wants his clothing/shoes to be available for the common man yet having uncommonly high prices, or the fact that he makes himself the face of the brand more than actually letting the clothes do the talking for themselves, or bc his clothing has very much taken cues from designers like rick owens to the point of where it's become blatant copying. don't get me wrong. the guy has definitely made strides in the fashion industry, hustled his ass off & contributed greatly to the way most men's fashion consumers wear/style clothing but that doesn't mean we're gonna let all that other shit slide, my g.

    Ironic everyone in the comments is talking about Jerry ripping other designs off but the guy in the video is wearing a shirt that looks exactly like a bootleg Fear mesh tee

      The guy in the video got the shirt from a Japanese brand named HARE that released the shirt before Fear of God. The Casual is based in Japan so this fact makes your comment even more ironic considering how many people blame Jerry for copying. In an effort to call out fakes or bootlegs you miss the mark completely because honestly, how would you know? But it's ok. We can take it. Also the guy in the video is Reggie and all he's doing is giving info. No reason to attack the messenger or maybe there is, not sure but whatever.

    Just checked Fear of God website and I think the clothes are meant for a younger generation under 25 who can't afford the clothes anyway.
