    As a Marriott front desk agent in the U.S., the general differences between the benefits of a Platinum and Gold are: (at least at my property)
    1) Slightly higher chance of getting complementary and/or better upgrade (based on availability)
    2) The small arrival bonus, dependent on property (such as 500 points or $10 food&beverage credit)
    3) Slightly better customer service every once in a while (depends highly on guest's attitude and agent on duty)
    I agree with Sebby in regards that its better for people who will be traveling alot anyways. All the bonuses are generally small compared to the amount of money most people will spend.

      I worked for Marriott for about 7 years and was a GM of a small Midwest property for 3 of those. I would love to see the ratio of elite members in a larger touristy area. We were a small industrial town so the majority of our guests were Elite members who traveled every week. We could have upwards of 10/20% house PP or Titanium (now I guess) with 300+ nights annually. It made it difficult when they were mostly regulars and all really wanted those upgrades! Due to the Guaranteed Availability push thru we would have to walk Gold and Platinum Members quite often because there were no non or basic MR member reservations. We got pretty good at making it worth it and would usually call around until someone volunteered.

    I just want to say thanks to you CreditSifu. I was 18 with no credit(19 now) , I followed you guy's advise by paying down my cards and not keeping a balance and now I have a 716+ score and $4,050 in available in credit with my Capital One Quicksilver and Discover it Chrome card. Couldn't have done it without you guys.

    I have gold status from the Ritz Carlton Card. I stayed at the Henry Hotel in Detroit, Michigan and got upgraded to the top floor and club room access. Also received a certificate for free breakfast.

    I need to do this for my GF. She is a VVIP flight attendant. She's sitting on tons of points (and has gold status WITHOUT any card) without paying a dime out of pocket. We met up in NYC and get free lounge access and continental breakfast at a Renaissance.

    18 nights SPG Platinum challenge may be better for those doing short stays and consecutive nights. You don't need to be gold first either. The catch is that you can only do it once.

    Great work Seby. Another perk of being a platinum member is that it’s now linked with United Mileage Plus and it would boost your status on United as well by being a Marriott platinum member.
    Any thoughts on this @ask sebby

      Silver status AFAIK but still solid.

    Hi Sebby, thanks for the video. What do you mean by "Platinum is technically the top status by Marriott that's not invite only"? Does Marriott have a super secret status that's higher and is by invitation only?

  • @lewis20002000
    @lewis20002000 6 лет назад

    Sebby, it also depends on how long will your platinum status be, I think its worth it because it would be for 20 months and the less-than-glamours United silver status. All in all, I am going to do it because of the potential many status matches I can get from it. In addition, I will be returning from a long overseas tour, so I can "better" justify the mattress run before renting again.

    Hey, Sebby.. do you play Starcraft 2? Also, do you speak a second language? I speak English and Spanish but I’m interested in learning a third language. I know my questions were unrelated to the video and hope you don’t mind. Cheers~

      From cards right? Which specific parts are you interested in? I've considered it but it's just a beefy topic. For example, are you interested in emergency evac?

    • @armandol1826
      @armandol1826 6 лет назад +1

      Ask Sebby I didn’t even know emergency Evan was a perk lol. I’m interested capital one, chase, Amex, and discover. You normally form your analysis of several cards. Can you do this for the common no annual fee cards such as cap platinum, freedom, everyday

  • @smusgrav
    @smusgrav 6 лет назад

    Uggh we traveled enough to get platinum stays just by the number of nights/stays. We found very few upgrades as platinum members. Lounge access is by far the best benefit but you have to be at hotel during certain hours to get food (drinks are available pretty much always) Any hotels matching status?

    Hello Sebby,
    I have a question pertaining to credit cards in general I'm 21 and have had a credit card for under a year. I am simply wondering if credit card annual fees for Amex are due in the beginning of the 12th or 13th month? I am confused of how annual fees are placed on Amex cards that have a card that has a free trial year.

    • @AskSebby
      @AskSebby  6 лет назад +1

      You have 30 days to cancel from the AF hitting (or to downgrade) so don't worry about it too much.
      Amex has terms that specify that if you cancel within your first year, they have the right to claw the bonus back.

    • @luzramos2477

      Thanks I might keep the card as is .Your response was very helpful.

    Does a status match from SPG Gold work as well?

    • @AskSebby

      Status is changing dramatically moving forward. I'll probably do an update video given the merge.

    Does anyone know how I can give away my Marriot Hawaii timeshare. Marriot said I can’t give it back to them without a huge fee.

  • @roberttaylor8906
    @roberttaylor8906 6 лет назад +2

    It looks like all Marriott plat gets over gold is 48 hr room availability and an "arrival gift" of few bonus points or a food/drink amenity - on paper it doesn't seem worth the hassle, especially if you have to pay cash while you already have points to use.

    • @AskSebby
      @AskSebby  6 лет назад +1

      Suite/room upgrade priority is the main thing for me. In certain properties, they just won't upgrade Gold's because the bar for upgrades is a lot higher.

    • @DanielRall
      @DanielRall 6 лет назад

      Receiving bonus points on an award stay I'd effectively giving you a room rate reduction (in points currency).

    If you were to book for someone else in your group and paying for both. Would it be 2 stays?

    • @AskSebby
      @AskSebby  6 лет назад

      I've heard mixed things. If both are booked at the same time (i.e., same day) it will be only one stay.
      If it's a separate day (and not back-to-back with another stay) it should be two.

      I just experienced this on a 5 night trip to Orlando. Booked two rooms in my name uding Marriott app and kept both rooms in my name at checkin. Paid for both rooms with my credit card. Only got credit for 5 nights stayed (Not 10 as I hoped) but did get reward points for all nights on both rooms.

    Question. I have the platinum card and haven't stayed at any hotels yet, does your good status ever disappear if you don't meet any stay requirements whilst being a Platnium cardholder?

    • @AskSebby

      If you have the Platinum, you'll always keep Gold status.
