WHY I DON'T USE A DENMAN BRUSH | CURLSMAS Day 5 | Lydia Tefera Хобби
Yeah I definitely love the denman brush for detangling and styling. With this brush you're suppose to comb up not down. So once you apply everything, comb from root to ends away from your scalp not down. It makes a big difference. I was combing down too and had the same issue. When I looked up how to properly use it, every person I saw combed away from the scalp. For detangling, it's suppose to be used vertically and horizontally for styling.
Just had a negative experience with a denman brush and a wash n go with frizzy puffy roots. I came in here to try to get some incite and your video is so true for me. Years ago when I was transitioning the brush was a miracle worker but I think My needs have changed. Thanks so much for this video!
I use it once in a while but really carefully.
😊👍🏾
I felt like a shaved cat after a while of using a denman brush, went back to using my fingers and realised the brush was ripping out wayyyyy too much hair
Yeahh that’s why I don’t like using 😭
A shaved cat😂😂😂😂
m a yes!!! I feel like it’s ripping my hair out!
A hair journey video sounds amazing!! 💜💜💜💜💜
💜💜💜💜
Brush!!!!!!!! 💜💜💜💜💜💜

💜💜💜💜
Lost so much hair every time I brushed my hair. Even if I have freshly brushed out, if I brush through again, even more hair comes out. !!
I think it is definitely causing breakage or ripping out at root.
Maybe due to the rubber latex kinda base stretching the hairs?!
I have always get a bit of hair in my brush because I have long fine blonde hair. always malted a few hairs, but the Denman has caused LOADs of breakage always seems to be loads in my brush!!
I think I'm Going to throw it out.
Brush 💜💜💜
💜💜💜💜
Yes to the hair journey video! 🙌🏽🙏🏼💖
I’ll hopefully do one at some point soon!
Brush!!! I love the Denman brush I use it in the shower on soaking wet hair
I’m glad it works for you!
Brushhhhhhh!
Thanks for watching!
Such a good video! You have such a positive vibe! 💜💜💜💜💜💜
Thank you!! 💜💜💜
Brush!
💜🤗😁
Hey lydia and love the video as always. I love the way that you give alot of info in your video.❤
Thank you!!!
@@LydiaTefera you are so welcome.😘
These have been the best 5 days of my lifeee #blessed
So happy you’re loving the videos!
Congrats on 26k!!!!!
Thank you so much!!!
💜💜💜. Same thing happens to me. I mostly use my fingers and maybe use a super wide-tooth comb during deep conditioning when I can’t get a knot out.
That’s great! Thanks for sharing 💜
The choice of intro song ♥️💁🏽♀️❄️🎅🏿 lol
🙌🏾💜
I just bought it and it’s working okay..🤷🏽♀️
such a good video's and your curls are poping as always 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
Thank you! 💜💜
Gosh I wish I watched this video BEFORE I bought that brush! In time I also noticed my curls looking better by finger combing. I think it’s because my hair started getting longer so the curls were easier to finger comb. Thanks hun for this video! Your truth helps us all!
So glad this video was helpful! Thank you so much for watching!
Brush....I tried it once. I agree about the product being brush down to your ends. Went back to using just my fingers.
Yeah using my fingers works best for me too!
I don't use a denman brush either. Combs and brush pull out my hair so I stick to using my fingers.
Same here!
5 years later and I'm still mad I ever spent the money on a Denman lol. I hated it.
😭😭
I have 3c 4a low porosity low density hair. Can you do a video on removing shed hair when finger detangling? It’s a constant struggle for me! 😭
Id recommend that you work in small sections at a time and make sure you detangle your hair when it’s covered in conditioner
Okay, I’ll give that a try on my next wash day (coming up soon). Thx for responding. 😊
You’re welcome! Thanks for watching!
Do you ever do a sleek bun? And if so then would you it use for your hair? Also can you do a curly to straight video like how you straighten your hair? Or do you go to the salon to straighten your hair? And do they use brushes on you? Also do you trim your own hair or go to a salon to do it? How much do you cut and how often? I have the same hair type as you and learning a lot! But I would like to learn other alternative styles from you!
I don’t straighten my hair at all I haven’t straightened it in over 5 years lol. And I’ve been trimming my hair on my own but I’m probably gonna get a professional trim/cut at some point next year :)
can you do a video of you trimming your hair? i need to learn 🧐@@LydiaTefera
I use the denman brush you have. I've only left four rows of the teeth in it, and my hair has never looked better. Doesn't work with all of the rows though
Ahhh thanks for sharing girl!
💜 I Don't Use The Denman Brush Anymore Made My Curls Too Tight!
I wanna see that hair journey video!
Oh and BRUSH 😊
I’ll be sure to do one at some point hopefully soon!
I love your channel. You really deserve alot more subbies ❤
Brush
Awh thank you so much! That means a lot to me!
I agree! Great video
I don't use the Denman brush either lol
Lol I’m glad I’m not the only one!
I've had the Denman brush for probably 5-6 years. It's nice for defining curls BUT the bristles are so rough on the hair....especially fine hair in which I have. Currently deciding whether I should go with a tangle teaser or a F. Leatherwood detangling brush. xo
Brush!!!! Love your videos curlfriend!
Thank you!!! ♥️💜
BRUSH!! I absolutely love 💕 my denman brush to work my leave in conditioners through
I use it to make sure my hair is coated with product when i DC & when i style, never to detangle lol. i love defined curls❤️ brush
Oh okay! That makes sense! Thanks for sharing!!
i have 3c hair and i dont use it either it worked so bad
Yeah it can be a struggle!
Wow u make me see it from a different point of view thank youuuuu
So glad this video was helpful!
I love the Denman !! There is a science to this brush !
I’m glad you love it!! ♥️
Do u know any products that u can add to dry hair and not flake
I usually only apply spray oils and serums to dry hair
Yasss 3:46 YESSS THIS IS WHY I DONT USE ONE EITHER.
I know right!
I have tried a couple of times to use the denman but i just dont work on me. It leave the top of my hair too flat and i have tried different methods. i prefer a regular paddle brush.
I really love your videos u have really helped me along the way with my curly hair journey....I would love to see a curly hair journey video!!!
Thank you! I’m sooo glad you’ve found my videos helpful!! ♥️
Brush Yeap I use it.But you made some really good valid points on why you don't.☺
Thank you so much for watching!!
Brush 💜
I don’t use the denman to define my hair because I notice that my roots get very frizzy and the ends are nicely defined also. But I use it sometimes to detangle my hair but I mostly just use a wide tooth comb or a tangle tamer that I recently just bought.
Thanks for sharing!!
You just answered my dilemma that I have been having for the longest. I have been struggling with puffy roots whenever I do a type of style in my hair. Ima just try using my hands instead of a brush and see if I get different results. Thank you lots!!
So glam this was helpful!!! Let me know how it turns out!
I only use a denman brush to detangle my hair when it's wet and has a leave-in conditioner in it. I always detangle with a wide tooth comb first though. But as for styling, it just makes my hair frizzy no matter how much gel I use. Glad I'm not the only one with that problem. Ilysm😘 Brushhhh
Thank you for sharing Jessica!!
Thanks for sharing. “Brush”🌸
Thanks for watching! Xoxo
Brush! Going to give this technique a go 👍🏽
#notificationsquad I use to use the one with the white bristle but find it to pull out my hair too much. I use my fingers mostly now but on those time when my hair is a hot mess and I neglected it for too long, I use the Denman brush with the black bristles. It's more sturdy and doesn't pull my hair out like the other one. Great video as always, thanks for answering our questions sis. BRUSH
Yeah the black one was the one used years ago and it is better than the white one! But thanks for watching girl! 💜
I occasionally use my Denman Brush when I want tighter curls. I feel like it helped my hair get the curl pattern back. # Brush!!! The tangle teaser gives good curl definition without shrinkage.
Thanks for sharing!
Notification gang. Nice tips cause I'm 10 months transitioning from Relaxed to natural. #Brush 💃🏾💃🏾
So glad you found the tips helpful!
#Brush I use a denman from time to time. But, my hair is currently cut in a tapered cut, so its shaved really close on the sides and back so there isn't really a need for me to use my denman anymore. I get what you were saying in this video though. You made great points!😊
Thank you so much for sharing and thank you for watching!!! 💜
I agree with product going all the way to the end of hair with the brush. I thought I was the only one who thought that was kind of "not right." I tried it several times, but now I don't use any brushes. Every now and then I MIGHT use a wide tooth comb. Brush!!
Glad I’m not alone! Thanks for watching!
I only use my fingers. I find the denman brush to harsh on my thin/fine strands. Brush💜💜💜💜💜
Yeah same!
Brush. I use the denman brush for detangling in the shower and after that it's mostly just fingers (sometimes a comb if I'm doing a twist out).
😊👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
Brush. I use to denman brush mainly when im working my deep conditioner and/or leave and cream in. Now i have the three row comb so i switch it up now.
That’s good!
Brush. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching!!!
Brush!!! I agree with you 100 percent. I tried to like Denman brush but it pulls my hair.
Same!!
My hair is very similar to yours. I don’t use the Denman brush because it tears out my hair. So I’ve learned from you to detangle with my fingers. My hair behaves much better because of it.
I’m sooo glad finger detangling has been better for you!
i live in isael and they dobt sell it hear but i do use the tangle teezer for defenition (i always finger detangle) i love it and it works just the same from what ive seen in youtube (people results) my hair is all ringlets and its amazing
I’m glad it works for you!
Brush!!!! I’ve tried to use the denman brush but it doesn’t work for me. I get even more shrinkage when I use it and my curls tend to get tangled in it.
Yeah it does cause a lot of shrinkage!!
Do you still use your fingers when your hair has been in a bun for like a week and your hair is so naughted
Yeah I slap a bunch of conditioner in my hair and detangle it in small sections at a time when it’s super tangled
Brush!!! I haven't had much success with the denman brush. But I do use a Denman comb. LOL. I use the comb to distribute my leave-in/curl cream before I apply my gel, and that is because many times after my hair dried, I could feel that a section was not touched with product in the back of my head. That is very discouraging after completing your wash and go.
Ohh okay thanks for sharing!!!
Brush 💜💜💜💜 do you have curly haired 👩🏾🦱 friends or family members? If so you should do Curl Chit Chats 😃. Also I use my denman brush faithfully every week to detangle for my wash n go’s. i first detangle with my fingers then I go over each section with the brush to make sure I get all the knots out and to smooth my hair. I love 💕 it!
Ohhh that’s a good idea I’d have to see if any of my family or friends would be down! Thanks for the suggestion and for sharing!
I don't use the Denman brush for your first reason. I actually don't even use a comb anymore. Even a very wide tooth comb is too much breakage on my hair. I just use my fingers. My Denman brush is now only used for my wigs to detangle.
i think this may be the answer to all my hair struggles haha
So glad this was helpful!
Brush. I always love your videos. I don't really put brushes on my hair either. I will use a wide tooth comb though.
Thank you so much!!!
I spritz my hair with a water/leave in mix that’s quite watery and then use the denman brush and then put gel in and I don’t go in with the brush again, that way your not moving the product around once you’ve applied and it still gets my hair defined enough but still full
Oh thanks for sharing!!
Lydia Tefera your welcome konjit x
Always thought it was mine whose got a problem because no matter how I tried to use it it always end up getting my hair a complete freezy mess specially at the roots ! it separate my curls and don’t clump them together as I have seen in so many videos so I just accepted that it doesn’t work for my hair and stay with my best tools... my fingers
Yeah I felt the same wayyyy!
Oh yeah you do reply all my comments I lv that brushI used it on my daughter's hair Only on wash day to detangle
That makes sense!! And thanks for commenting girl!
@@LydiaTefera no thank you watching your video has helped me alot with my daughter's hair.
you should do a video where you do your normal curly hair routine but on one side you use the denman brush! just an idea lol. loved this video though!
Oh that would be interesting! Thanks for the idea! And thank you for watching!
I tried it back in 2003 during the early days of natural hair on the internet, and knew immediately my hair didn’t like it. I only use it (same brush) to smooth my edges if I need it once in a while.
Thank you for sharing!!
Brush. I use the brush once in a while. I love Felicia’s leatherwood brush better.
I haven’t used that one before! But thanks for sharing!
Day 5💜💜💜
I feel like I get way more shedding using a brush. My hair is cool with a wide tooth comb, but I really only use my hands. I get enough shrinkage and definition using certain products. Enjoyed hearing your thoughts on it🤗.
BRUUUSSSSHHHHH
Yeah I feel the same way!! Thank you for watching girl!
Lydia Tefera Yess! & Anytime ❤️❤️
I use a wide-tooth come to detangle. I used to use the Denman to define my curls because another creator recommended it. I just find that I'm more defined finger coiling
💜💜💜 Brush
💜💜💜
I don’t use a Denman brush either because it’s too harsh even when you cut some bristles. I just comb and then use my wide square shaped brush to style.
Thanks for sharing girl! And thank you for watching!
Brush! LOL ! Even though l have never used a Denman brush in my hair l can still relate to what you have said! That's why l don't use hard bristle brushes in my hair because it snags! I only use soft bristle brushes if l am using a brush and l am just fine with that because l am not tugging at my hair! I have to use a comb though because that is the only way l can get to detangle my hair efficiently!
Yeah that’s how I feel! Thanks for sharing and for watching Nicole!
Lydia Tefera You're welcome!
Brush....I'm glad you did this video. I've been so on the fence about trying a Denman brush ever since I first learned about them. As I've learned through YT it can be good for clumping curls(which I think is pretty cool as I've still yet to figure out the whole scrunching process). To which I think would be interesting to experience to see how that would work. But at the same time, I've heard that if used wrong can totally pull your hair out too. And I don't want that either. So it's definitely good to have another opinion on using it as well. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
P.S. thanks for sharing about the brush pushing down product and creating additional frizzing. I have enough of that on my own already. Don't need more, lol.
Thank you so much for watching I’m so glad you found this video helpful!
that brush literally shreds my hair along with the wet brush
Yeah that’s how I feel too 😭
Heyyyyyyy girl
Heyyy!
💜💜💜It's finals week so I am slowly catching up on your curlmas vlogs. I like the denman brush because it defines my curls, but it gives me major shrinkage and it's not great for detangling.
Good luck with finals girl!
Don’t use denim brushes to detangle there ment for styling
Brushhhhh
💜♥️😁
Girl same this brush does nothing for my curls and makes me feel like my hair is being pulled out
I know right 😭
I used it way back in 2013 in the start of my natural hair journey. I even modified it! And I still found it too be too harsh most times. Wide tooth comb and fingers work best depending on how long I’ve washed and how much time I have to wash my hair. #momlife lol brush 😉
Thank you so much for sharing!! ☺️😉
I’ve had the same issues with the denman!
So glad I’m not the only one haha
Brush! Yea I really don’t use it either. I bought one when I first went natural because I was seeing it everywhere but as time went on, I felt that it was too harsh for my hair.
Yeah I felt the same way!
🍬Brushhhhh! #notificationsquad #curlsmas5 and I don’t use one either 😊!
#squaddd and I’m glad I’m not alone!
#notificationsquad BRUSHHH💜💜💜 I don’t use the Denman brush or any other brush. I’m good with my wide tooth comb lol
💜💜💜
Brush!!!❤️
♥️♥️♥️
I don’t use them because they pull my hair out!! my wife tooth comb works fine for me!
Yeah I feel like it pulls at my hair too!
I feel the same way about using a denman brush for styling or any comb I think it gets rid of the product you applied.
Yeah it can be really frustrating 😭
I love my denman brush but I use it because I apply my styler, if that helps anybody out 😊
Thanks for sharing!
Can you do your deep conditioning routine?
I have a couple deep conditioning videos up on my channel that you may find helpful 🤗
What would you use for hair that doesn’t seem to retain moisture well
Use moisturizing deep conditioner preferably with no silicones
Brush
💙💙
Brush! We have 3 different curl types in our house and all had same results you described with defined ends/ puffy roots. I was very disappointed and never understood the hype of the brush I thought I must have been using it wrong! 😅
You’re not alone!!
Ok, so i found this video and i now feel justified. I actually think my denman brush which is actually a shower brush by pattern is ripping out my hair. Especially my ends. I found a picture of myself from when i previously used no brush and it looks waaaay better. I noticed my ends are look very sparse and i have never had this problem. I thought the brush would help me! I also noticed my roots have been super frizzy. Which is a problem i also never had before. I thought it was the weather or something. After this video i am convinced it is this damn brush!! Back to fingers i go! 😁
