    🥳 OPINIONS. I fully agree with you. My experience with my natural hair improved dramatically when I accepted these facts:
    1. there is no miracle product to fix split ends
    2. SSKs are inevitable and
    3. shrinkage means I'm doing something right in my routine. #healthyhairgoals

    First off yes to the video with tips!! I agree with all your tips. Shrinkage for instance I had to learn to embrace. I have dense type 3&4 hair and it’s to my chest when stretched, but shrinks to my ears🤷🏾‍♀️. I’ve come to love the fact that it’s healthy and that’s just how my curls are. I don’t wanna change a thing. All I have to do if I want it to stretch is either find a stretching method or let it get big on its own as the days go by.

    Great video!
    You have type 3 hair so shrinkage isn’t bad but with type 4 it’s very drastic and with shrinking comes tangles and knots which can lead to breakage. That’s why many type 4 do braid/twist outs to stretch the hair and avoid the knots.
    Plus type 4 hair is the most fragile so getting your hair to a long length is more work. If you have successfully grown your hair out for years to waist length just to have it snap back to above your shoulder, that can be so frustrating. Everyone woman for the most part desires long hair so that’s why shrinkage gets the bad rep it does.

      This is a misconception. It doesn't take more work to grow kinky coily hair. It depends on your genetics, your health, and how you take care of your hair. My hair is type 4 with some 3 and I've never had an issue with growing my hair past waist. It grows 2-2.2 cm a month. The only time I had an issue with hair growth was when I was on a very low kcal diet (

    You can't really watch different youtube channels and expect for your hair to turn out like their hair. The best you can do is learn and experiment on what do and don't work on your hair. It's an unpopular opinion that I'm still trying to learn myself, unfortunately.

    🍿! I too am a low maintenance wash and go person. I always felt like styling was damaging (it didn’t help that I have no skill or patience for protective styling). For this reason, I’d love to see a video on maintaining length when you’re a wash and go girl because most maintaining length videos do focus on protective styling. I guess my unpopular hair opinion would be that I’d be lost without a Denman and water bottle! I seriously can’t style my hair or my daughter’s hair without both of those tools...every day 🥺

      I'm right there with you on being low maintenance as well. I'm honestly not the best at nor do I have the skill for doing much to my hair either half the time. That is why I'm enjoying the simplicity of L.O.C.-ing and using curl creams. The ability to do something so simple and easy like that just saves so much time for me right now.

    Great video. I have fingertip wavy/curly hair and it's true about retaining length, also a lot of people still trim too much if they want their hair to grow. I last had a haircut November 2016 and grew for 2 years. I will be having a 1 inch trim in January (cut it myself, so I know it's "only" an inch). I always do a wash 'n go every Sunday and bun throughout the week. My hair is doing very well like this.

    • @LydiaTefera
      @LydiaTefera  5 лет назад

      That’s fantastic!

    • @cheralewhite8253
      @cheralewhite8253 5 лет назад

      That is awesome. I'm only trimming a bit more now these days, cause I discovered rather belatedly over the summer that my hair is not a friend to aloe. And I wound up really frying, frizzing out, and thinning out a good section of my hair. It's not as noticeable when using curl creams. But definitely to the touch you can feel the difference and when I don't use the cream at all.
      So I've wanted to keep it and the rest of my hair trimmed to get rid of some of the damage as well as the frizz factor(first trim was 3 months ago. Was thinking of getting another one before Dec. was out and then try for 5 month wait period before the next one). It's too cold now to do another low cut(already big chopped/shaved to bald back in may and it was growing out throughout the summer. So now no naked scalp for the winter, haha). But yea I'll see how things are looking after my next trim.

    • @amixeblu
      @amixeblu 5 лет назад

      @@cheralewhite8253, there is something called micro-trimming (it's from the long hair community) and that means you only cut tiny amounts so you still retain growth and length. This means you cut half your growth each month or every 2 months. This is used when the hair is *quite* damaged and you need to retain the length and still preferably grow a bit. Good luck on your journey!

    • @amixeblu
      @amixeblu 5 лет назад

      @@LydiaTefera, thank you so much Lydia. I try. I love growing my hair out! My goal is knee. :D We'll see how far I get. LOL!

    • @cheralewhite8253
      @cheralewhite8253 5 лет назад +1

      Marleen G. That sounds interesting and kind of like dusting the ends(which I did or my last trim). But cutting off half the growth.....that admittedly sounds kind of daunting. I mean I do have some length going on now. But the shrinkage of my curls is serious. And to cut off what length I have after 6 months of growing it out so far, kind of makes me think back to when it was first growing back in. And I was feeling like I had a chicken butt on my head, as my hair wasn't even responding to curl creams at all, lol. So I don't know, I'll have to see some vids on this, before making a final decision. Thanks for hipping me to something new though.

    Opinion....I have two type of texture. My back of my hair & front top is fine and 3b/ 3c. The middle 4a/ 4b. So i have to work on my head two different ways. Thats another reason I like using my fingers. But the moisturizing the hair a certain amount of time per week. Some Say every two days or when needed. Its winter time. What works for U apply here.

    • @LydiaTefera
      @LydiaTefera  5 лет назад

      Yeah I have different textures too! Thanks for sharing!

    • @nibabi
      @nibabi 5 лет назад

      Yes, I also have two textures in the same spots. The back and front of my head has a looser curl than the crown. So when my hair shrinks it can look as if my hair is uneven. It’s not. They all stretch out to the same length. I refuse to get a diva cut because it just irritates my soul to think that my hair might be all kinds of crazy lengths. I may get a curly cut soon though if he promises to cut it evenly.

    Opinion....And have to say I totally agree with your opinion about embracing what your curls do naturally. I know my family is not really a big fan of that ideal. But I've always loved how naturally curly hair can be it's own seemingly effortless hairstyle when it's well moisturized and worn out of a protective style. Hence I'm enjoying just using some curl cream after doing the L.O.C. method. All those years of waiting for the curling iron to heat up, and making sure I had enough heat protectant on and trying not to burn my ears curling that part of my hair. Just ugh.
    I'm also a slave to my mini pick. I've stopped the comb version of the curl teaser that I was using as that was pulling too much. But yea, I can't finger comb to save my life at all. As I think my hair is in that TWA phase where my curls are kind of long, but shrink so much when dry, that if I didn't pick the curls out before I leave the house, I'd be looking like a wild woman. As the pick helps me bring things back together and to proper fullness(as I have some spots that shrink so much and so low, I have like mini "flat" zones along the front portion of my hair). It makes me laugh, but I've gotten used to it.
    I would also love a video on learning how to retain length. I think I'm doing okay and I guess the shrinkage does help me retain length pretty well. As well as using this new satin sleep sock/beanie I got from Evolve through Sally's. I'm also planning on doing another trim this month as it's been about 4 months. Have some damage I need to keep in check. But yea, could always be doing more to keep things healthy and on track.

      I definitely want to start trying to pick my hair more, I just need to get on I like! But I’ll definitely try and do a video on length retention sometime soon!

      That would definitely be interesting to see your hair picked out. I'll admit I didn't think I would look right once I first did it. But oh man, I'm loving it. Gives me Foxy Brown vibes even with a mini fro, lol.

    opinion! I wet my hair everyday now that I did a 2nd big chop and it's growing like a weed. So you don't have to get 3,4,5,6 days out of a wash and go

    Opinion. Loved this video, although I disagree with shrinkage not being a bad thing, I have such bad shrinkage, I never wear my hair down curly, but of course that's why you called this your unpopular opinion video😂.. Anyway, loving these everyday videos. Can't wait for tomorrow's video!!

    Lol i remember the deep conditioner saying that about split ends repairs and i just want it you to see it for yourself but i know they be lying but some people just want hope. Now with me, when it comes to split ends, my hair to better if i dont trim it as much because i noticed that this year i trim my hair three times but last year i did it once and i retain length and it was only a inch. All i want is healthy looking hair and thicker and long. My hair is armpit length but when it dries, its only shoulder length or most of the time it dont touch my shoulders at all. I gotten so use to seeing my hair at this length that its normal and fine to me but all we can do is be proud that our hair is healthy. Im a lazy natural but not to the point that its useless and i find if i leave my hair alone it grows better and what i mean by that like two strand twist, braids, my wash day routine, flat twist, and etc. My go to style is two strand twist because they quick and easy. I wish some natural stop lying that they got a day or two and yes theres videos on youtube like that. Why cant we all just accept each other hair no matter what race because this the reason why theres hate in the natural hair community because we love to put each other down. I watch alot of different youtubers videos no matter what race because i just love seeing them do there hair and i find it educational and something different. I know alot of yall dont have my hair texture but i dont care. Its sad to see that some black people dont love their hair texture and their skin color and im black but i love my hair and my yummy chocolate skin color boo boo.❤

    Opinion, i feel you re the "you get what you pay for" comment, it really does depend on your hair because there are some cheap products that will have my hair super moisturized and Ive splurged on expensive ones and gotten disappointed b4 so yeah #dowhatworksforyou
