  • In this video I will show you how you can easily transfer your data from your old phone to your new phone on Android 11 using a USB Cable.
If you don’t get the option to use a USB Cable during the setup/transfer process it means your phone is not compatible with this method.
Check out this video instead ( • Android Data Transfer ... ) to transfer your data wirelessly through your Google Account.
This process may also work on Android 12 but this has not yet been verified.
If this video helped you in any way, please give it a Thumbs up and Subscribe to keep the channel going :) Cheers
*This process may not work with phones that don’t use stock android like Samsung, LG, OPPO as they have their own backup & restore solution.

When I connect the two phones with the cable nothing happens. The dialog fails to progress. The old phone is a Xiaomi POCO X3 and the new phone is a Xiaomi Redmi Note 12. The cable is brand new. Any thoughts on what could be going wrong?

I just tap back and my new phone stucks on screen: Check your other device, while my (old) other device shows up: Copying your account. And it freezes forever on this steps, nothing are copied. What Am I missing, please? Thanks!!!!

Pretty annoying that my transfer dialog never asked if I wanted to use a cable. It defaulted to WIFI and didn't allow me any option whatsoever to choose USB. I have tons of content and according to the ETA, it's gonna take 6 hours wirelessly which is a little ridiculous. I tried setting up a Xiaomi phone just a few days ago and did the exact same transfer, and it took less than an hour with the cable. I have no clue why Google is forcing users to transfer content wirelessly... Really silly, especially if you don't have tons of time.

My non-phone savvy, non-tech savvy sister got a new Moto 5 5G 2024 yesterday from T-mobile and had the salesperson transfer her data from her 6 year old LG phone to the new Moto. Her contacts did not transfer over and she is very upset about it. Also, she does not have a Google account. I'm not quite understanding if the process you describe above will transfer those contacts or not. Will it? I'm going to have to try to transfer her contacts via some method but I don't really know what I'm doing either. I didn't see any mention that contacts would transfer over or that there was a checkbox to include contacts in the transfer via the method you describe. Help please...

So now I'm trying to go back so I can try it again but I don't know how to get back there it won't let me go back once you shut the phone up and have no option in the phone as far as I know of that would tell me how to start this process over again so I can connect both phones but the c port

    I did the same.
    a) WhatsApp
I don't have google backup. I only have local backup on the old phone. Not sure what to do.
    b) To give an idea, I had around 95GB in the old phone and in the new phone after your steps has 65GB.
25GB is WhatsApp files and rest is from third party apps like Concur.
    c) All Apps are installed on new phone but not data for these third party apps.
    How to fix it?
FYI: I started using new phone, except these third party apps. I am still using old phone for these

i can connect my old phone which has micro USB and don't support OTG to new one with type C via converter and it'll be charged but it's not showing file transfer option like it showed while connecting to computer, but i didn't tested it on initial phone setup which you're showing here.

So far so good and thanks for this. However, I am an iPhone guy and all my iPhone updates were super easy, just tapping the old phone with the new one and putting them side by side. It does the "cloning" wirelessly without getting you into trouble of finding a suitable cable and\or adapter. Really, isn't there something similar with android devices? Now I need to do it with android phones (xiaomi 6 to xiaomi 9) and I can't find anything simple :( If there isn't I will try finding cable and go this route (I don't understand the need for the cable when they are in same network and why they can't directly connect via wireless). I may also try using google cloud backup approach but there is about 57 Gb data in old phone:( That wouldn't work I guess because of free google storage is low (and seems to be clumsy, to upload to internet and then get back when it should simply should be able to do in the same LAN).

    • @THELABHUB

I think it really depends on the device manufacturer and what kind of data transfer method they implement. Some have really quick and easy ones and others don't... The default Google option is ok but still needs some work I believe - As far as Xiaomi goes I believe they have their own data transfer app called Mi Mover you can download from the google play store Link (play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mi.global.mimover) - Hope this helps!

So which way round should the cable be? With pure USB C the devices choose which side is host, but for USB B or USB A (eg 2 connected cables) the cables decide.
