    I unsiezed a '28 Chevy for my neighbor some years back and after I let it 'pickle' for a week or so I put fresh oil on top of the pistons and rocked it back and forth in gear till I could turn it over with the hand crank. I talked to a local Chevy expert who told me I could use a 12 volt battery on the 6 volt starter to get a bit more rpms, so I did that with no plugs or fuel, an oil change, to make sure it was spinning free and the valves were all working (I oiled them by hand 1st). After I got it running my neighbor hired me to make it more driveable and reliable, so I converted it to a VW carb, 12 volt & alternator, Pertronix ignition, electric fuel pump, hydraulic brakes, etc., and made sure everything could be put back to original. He loved it and drove it regularly, and I learned a lot about old Chevys.

  • @TCW-hw6iw
    @TCW-hw6iw Час назад +7

    Chad, you need to take a little time to RUclips about those spark plugs etc. The spark plugs are two piece units, look carefully down the hole and you will see the ground portion of the spark plug. If a cylinder takes any more than 1/2 a cup it is probably getting past exhaust valves and into the exhaust manifold, pipes etc. Do not put the plugs back in until you have rolled it over many times, as you probably now have one or more cylinders that will hydra lock (will bend the rods) I suggest you put rags over the plug holes the first time you roll it over otherwise someone is getting a bath in dirty deisel. Stand to one side Jolene. You will need to change the oil and drain the exhaust system before starting. You also need new plug wires, yours are obviously rotten and possibly grounding inside the tubes. All that being said, call in a competent mechanic, if that means swallowing your pride, well swallow it and call NATE.

    Note; You have a two piece spark plug and you are only removing the inner part. There is still a outer part of the plug that is remaining in the cylinder head. A 7//8 ". I think,
    socket might remove that remaining outer part of the plug. Just lookup in any internet antique auto listing to understand what the complete plug looks like !!!!

You can ratchet the crank with a half inch drive and a breaker bar to see if you can move the crank. You can put the car in high gear and rock the car back and forth to free the engine. Lastly get the diesel fuel out of the cylinders and change the oil in the crankcase. Read your comments Chad. I think you can get the car running

While I know it feels good to accomplish things yourself if it was me I would be looking for a mechanic to help me with it. You are a fantastic bodyman and customizer but, your mechanical skills on an old car are lacking and that is not mean't to be an insult just the truth. I also have to agree with oldredchevy that you should fix the spot of missing paint on the decklid it stands out like a sore thumb and if it is your intention to sell it I would think you would get a few thousand more for it! Jolene great job on the video and your production work is top notch as well. I hope you & Chad are hanging in there with the loss of your mom. I had to look away when I saw how much kero you put in each cylinder. And then, when you put the spark plugs back in! There will be WAY TOO MUCH compression. Please, get someone who knows what they are doing. You're liable to bend your valves and dilute your engine oil.

    Chad the first car I bought was a 1951 Pontiac it sat in a field for 5 years. It had a straight 8 engine. She was locked up as well. A old mechanic I knew told me to pour Marvel Mystery Oil in the spark holes let it set for a week. I brought a good battery with me I hooked it up and turned it over with out the spark plugs in it. It grunted. It squeaked but she turned over. Chad try it.

    The fuel will only go into the cylinders that the valves are open. Drain the oil and OVERFILL it with diesel or kerosine. It may be the main/rod bearings that are stuck. The LET IT SIT for weeks. Then try turning it over by hand. Breaker bar on the crank pulley. FORWARD ONLY. Chad DON'T RUSH THIS!

    Chad, please take the spark plugs out to get the fluid out of the pistons or you gonna bend a rod or break a crank and destroy the engine. Chad, if you invest in vapo Rust and put it in your gas tank, it will remove the rust, but it has to contact all surfaces. I would recommend overnight and then drain it. It’s reusable. wash your tank out. It preserves the metal in coat it with a protective coating For rust.

    I would be interested in the antifreeze protection for all them years. I remember grandma saying some used alkahol in some of the old cars for freeze protection. Sure don’t wanna find a cracked block. Grandpa worked as mechanic on cars of 1920s & 1930s before moving to Indiana, I still have several of his old tools he used.

    You have valves open which will allow the fluid you are pouring in to run down into the oil pan, so for gods sake do not try to start it if the oil level is high

    50/50 acetone and auto tranny fluid. Pull spark plugs and drizzle a little in each cylinder. The old hand held oil cans with squeeze handle and bendable spout work wonders for this. Wait overnight. Turn by hand. Should losen up anything inhibiting the pistons.
