Im not a profesionall nor will i need this in my professional life, but man am I happy to have been able to create this insignificant box of pixels. All the instructions were damn easy to follow and even if the software shown is a bit outdated just a bit of investigation made it possible. I would like to kindly thank you kind sir for this. Wow I started CAD drawing in high school and then went on to get a degree in music...so I hadn't messed around with my industrial arts side. We barely touched Auto CAD and mostly did work on John Apperson's CADSTD. I love the fact that the Autodesk company knows that there are hobbyists out there that do basic hobby works and cannot afford the same price as companies that can afford the program. This is the very heart and soul of being a maker and I salute you all. Thank you for being there for the big guys and us little guys (and gals too).

After a traumatic brain injury, I have had to re-evaluate a lot of my life. Though looking at a screen is not the best for me I am able to take breaks as needed which was one of my reasons for focusing to get into the world of 3D printing. Most information is boring and you make it fun. I also appreciate that it is not "too simplified" as this has encouraged me to explore the program a little more to fill in the few gaps that I needed more explanation on. In just 48 hours I went from yelling at the screen in frustration to creating the thing that was in my head, better than my mind could think of. Thank you for, as you said, filling in the gaps that most other tutorials leave out, and keeping the videos shorter for those that do not want a lecture, yet still want to learn. It made going back to some of the more boring videos better since what they under explain you got just right. Mainly, best practices. Using Components to separate sketches and bodies has made working with this program much better for me.

Best tutorial I have seen. Amazing how much I learned in this short tutorial. I did 5 of the fusion360 tutorials and by the end was so confused I gave up because nothing worked and my settings were so screwed up it was beyond saving. I couldn´t make a box with rounded corners in over 3 hours using their tutorials. Altogether after almost 7 hours and 4 attempts and start overs I didn´t get as far as you just took me in 20 minutes and I actually understand what I did.
Even doing fusions own tutorials going step by step I end up lost because they don´t tell you what things do. They also assume you know what their terms and tiny symbols mean. Even just knowing you have to turn the lines from blue to black is not explained in their tutorials or what clicking those things does even though you use those relationship symbols in the tutorial. You just click buttons und hope you don´t accidentally click once to much because that will put it in the wrong one of 30 modes and you will never get back to the right place.

The version I'm using - 2.0.8412 on Windows 10 - doesn't have quite the same keystrokes, and this makes for some confusion, especially with Press Pull, where it appears you need to get into a kind of 3D view for it to work at all. In the upper left is a square that might say "TOP", and if you put your mouse in the cube and click+drag, you can change the perspective; then Q=Press Pull works as described.

I know this is years old, but I just wanted to thank you for this and your other tutorials. I started with them a few years ago, knowing nothing about parametric modelling, and now I use F360 every day for work and feel... if not an expert, quite comfortable in it. Thank you for getting me started off so well.

Unfortunate that so much of the UI has been moved around or changed since this was made. I love your teaching style but it's very frustrating to be following along and keep having to stop because what I need to do is no longer there. Then I have to scan around and look for where something has been relocated or renamed, sometimes having to go to a search engine to find the solution. It makes learning with this video go from what should feel like a joy to truly laborious.

This is really helpful. The only issue is, I'm using the 2021 version so a lot of commands are no longer in the same place. Either way, it's a great introduction.
Additional comment: I tried drawing a line from the bottom upwards and it won't let me. If I move up and to an angle, the line only moves along the base and there's no way I can change it to create an angle.

When switching from the top to the bottom of the box how did you rotate the view to the bottom? I don't think you talked about that shortcut in the video unless you've got others I should watch first.

Hi Lars, Great Video. Being an X military instructor I like the fact that you, unlike most youtubers, start at the very basic beginning of each project. One thing I would suggest is that you both enlarge and turn your cursor to black in color. In some of your presentations I could not follow exactly where you moved cursor before you initiated the command.

Hi, Great videos! but I think I'm right in saying that the current version (Oct 2019) has a new UI interface and the 'Model' mode is now dead and 'Desgn' mode replaces it. Using the old functionality UI has also been removed. That in mind the vids are still relevant.

Maybe need to update your tutorial? As the UI seems to be very different from this today.
Top first menu; selected “Model” on mine it’s “Design”. Then the origin looks different and is turned, half the items in the “Sketch Pallet” are missing. Typing’S’ brings up Design shortcuts and a search for the same item did not work out. Will have to see how much else is different….
Great help so far, thx shame one can’t follow through.

First, I am trying to learn by 'Monkey see, monkey do' and the first thing I see is 'MODEL' on the topleft corner - I don't have that, I have 'DESIGN'. I am going to presume that Fusion360 has changed since 2016 when the video was made. It just makes me wary what else may have changed.

Now I have watched the 2nd video in the series and I am starting to get excited about the capabilities of the software. I am converting my 3D modelling mind from SketchUp to Fusion, the former was my 'quick and dirty' solution to CAD for 3D printing. Already I see solutions to the features (lack of) that frustrated me before.

I watched the videos - several times - and set about making my first 'real' design. I have done a few quick small components, a collar with holes, a support column and about a year ago I took a dxf file of a gear profile, extruded it on Fusion360 and 3D printed an intermediate gear for my mini-lathe. This time I needed a rack for my small (4mm - 11mm) spanners. It took a couple of hours and several changes of direction in the way I did the CAD, but when I got to the final stage and mirrored the two sides to make the rack, I felt that I had started to get a grasp of how to do things. The rack was 3D printed and is now in use. I am sure that Fusion360 will be much the same as learning a musical instrument. Uncertainty at first and a lot of hesitation and mistakes, but with practice I hope I will get more fluent.

Hi lars. I'm new to CAD and Fusion 360. i know this video was uploaded 5 years ago. My basic screen looks different. Where yours has a box in the upper left corner saying Model, mine says Design, and the drop down menu is different. Has the layout been redesigned or have you configured the screen differently? EDIT: I see that the design has been updated since this video. I will learn the basic stuff first on another video then come back here as I like your style and explanations of why. Just racing through builds doesnt teach you the why.
