Youre a realtor in gainesville is it safe to say that the reason youre pushing gainesville is because your income is dependent on weather or not people "want" to live in gainesville?? You know as well as most of us who lived in gainesville that its a horrible place to raise a family and live they cater to the college students other than that the city of gainesville could care less about anyone else
@@DogmanCastroJ I'm sorry to hear your experience in Gainesville has been so difficult. For myself and my family Gainesville has been an enjoyable place to live and if we felt it was anything less we would have moved years ago. Gainesville may not be a fit for everyone. I would not consider it perfect but I would also say it is far from horrible. I hope you find a more enjoyable place to live, I'm sure it's miserable to live somewhere you do not like.
I grew up here in Gainesville, Florida. Living in Gainesville for 25 years has its moments where at times the city is boring . I have seen a lot of major changes in the past 25 years living here. There is the new Butler Plaza getting rebuild as a shopping mall. Celebration Pointe has become one of the best shopping centers in town, so they have builded an apartment next to them. Also, a brand new movie theatre and restaurants that we never thought we’d get into our town. One thing that hasn’t changed is the traffic and it still sucks during rush hour between 4pm to 6pm. There have been a lot of more student housing apartments being built near University of Florida campus. The only problem I had since living in Gainesville is the roads and why won’t the city take time to repair the broken roads. I only thing I hate about living in Gainesville is the lack of diverse food options like chain restaurants or lack of Organic/ Diverse Grocery Stores. Also, the non-student housing apartments rent is higher than most cities in America. The landlords have no respect for the tenants at all. I never experienced racism at all during my years here. GRU have been a big problem here, so that’s the worst part about living here. As long as you keep your utilities off…you won’t have a higher GRU bill. It’s a college town with a lot of diversity. The positive thing about living here is the low crime rate. Imagine if Butler Plaza would add a Golden Corral, Raising Cane’s, Brookshire, Kroger’s, or Huddle House.
i grew up in gainesville. it's sad to see how much it has changed since i moved. i miss the old school house parties and dirty adventures down the nature trails.
From when I was born until a few months after turning 14, I was born and raised in Gainesville, but moved to a rural area just between Archer and Bronson, Florida, which is where I live today!

lIved there between the fall of 2018 through the late spring of 2021. Back in Philadelphia, PA, now. Sadly, my mom and aunt passed away while I was there. They lived all the way up route 13 in Turkey Creed Forest. Got around quite a bit. UF, Yogapod, Whole Foods in Butler Plaza, downtown Gainesville where, I believe, the Starbucks closed indefinitely because of the pandemic. Thank you!
Clay Electric is the other company that covers some areas outside of Gainesville. If you could get just outside of the city and maybe even on well and septic you could expect lower utility bills.
Great video, I visited Gainesville for the first time recently and was really impressed with it. Love the location, all the springs, Paynes Prairie close by and the bat houses right in town...such an underrated spot!
Thank you for the information. I have received an admit from UF for fall 2020. I'll be going to Gainesville in July this year. And this video helps me in my research about the place.
I have one question. I have lived in Mumbai, India. It's a massive city which is always buzzing and busy. New York ofr example is very similar to Mumbai. So, will the transition to a city like Gainesville be tough for me? Thank you.

As a fellow indian that attended UF, i will strongly advise you to reconsider UF especially if you are coming here for a degree related to computer science or electronics, you will struggle hard to find any internships due to locational disadvantage and coops are practically impossible to getin as there is only one IT company in entire gainesville. We don't see too many hurricanes in Gainesville but they do come through occasionally. If it's on wheels one option would be to move it to a safe spot for a couple of days. When are you planning to move to the area?

I disagree with him about poor public transportation. Gainesville isn't really spread out (compared to other major Florida cities) and the public transit system is shared with UF and Santa Fe (i.e. more buses run as they transport the college students as well as general population).
Different areas are different. The donwtown area is good transportation wise, but Clark Butler and Celebration Pointe where I currently live are not at all walkable.
