What other condo problems do people need to know about, what did I miss?
Nothing less than a tragedy for countless condo owners. Sold mine in December and felt like I got off the Titanic before the sinking.
Not a lack of reserves but criminal negligence of safety inspection causing the Miami condo collapse.

We sold our Condo in West Palm beach 2 months after the colapse of the Champlain towers that was the last push I needed to sell every time we had a board meeting most of the owners always vote against doing maintenance repairs the condominium was already old and deteriorating
Wow, what a rude awakening- I would think some of these scenarios apply to townhomes as well, no? The HOV's are one thing, but the "special" assessments can hit at any time without warning. Thanks for an honest review of the current market- something to think about if you are considering downsizing.

Yes, very sad. This will impact a lot of people.
Add one more element to this problem: climate change is resulting in stronger and more frequent storms in Florida, the state that gets the most of all. Whatever flaws there might be in a building’s construction will be exposed even faster than expected, I think. Someone needs to start digging up building records from back then.

Condos was a dumb concept from the beginning for buyers. Basically they sold you an apartment so you would never leave and charge you more than you would pay if you were a renter.

Do they have a high special assessment coming?
President Biden should do an Executive Order that any Senior over the age of 62 on a Fixed Income should be exempt from paying condo insurance premiums and special assessments. It wouldn't cost the government any money. They could just charge the other owners in the building under age 62 more money to cover the costs.
😂 Pay your own bills. We didn't vote down repairs and contributions to reserves. You reap what you sow.
