Try cold pressed orange oil on oil or grease spots. You put it on full strength rub it in. Let it set on the stain for 30 or so minutes. If the stain is old you might have to do it a couple of times. But I saved about 12 golf shirts for a friends husband. The other thing was the whole lo load of laundry smell so good.
I love it. Only just subscribed. I wish someone would do something like this here in the UK. And knives 🔪 open and for everyone to just stick their fingers in would for starters be a health and safety disaster let alone that any knives over 3 inches and one would carry this without having a reasonable excuse (I.e. a chef to or from work but have to be carried in a locked case) they would close the store down charity or not and everyone would be prosecuted, so that would not work here. Anyway, back to the video and carry on the great work. I for one enjoy them. 👍
Just a note...as a former thrift store manager/production lead I want to advise all of you to avoid the stuffed animals all together. We began finding too many of them infested with bed bugs so our stores got rid of the all together..better safe than sorry. Stuffed toys are a hot bed for these critters.
A stuffie could be bagged and taken to a coin op laundromat with high temp dryers then just leave em bagged for a few weeks. We had a child spend the night who had them in a sleeping bag and were able to clear all our bedding that way.
I’ve had a really hard time finding deals at Goodwill since they started pulling valuable items off their shelves and putting them on their shop goodwill auction site. I quit going to goodwill and started shopping at the local thrift stores. They seem to work better for me.

Yeah the goodwill around my area went up a lot on prices that I can go get some items brand new for the prices they put on them. Sometimes I think they forget that the items are donated and they are not Walmart
In Australia our thrift stores and be 10x difference in price for the same items. Wealthier the area the more expensive the price. A lot ask eBay comps for what they sell 🤦♂️
There are a lot of valid points. Just a note: I tried donating to a woman's shelter & they didn't want what I had, women's clothes, shoes, feminine items etc, because they'd had so many donations & had no place to store anything extra. I donate to St Vincent de Paul because if they know of people who have had a fire or other disaster, for instance, they will give them whatever they need for free.
Salvation army does too but they give you the absolute garbage that they don't want to send to the landfill. Iowa Sally's truck all of their good item to thrift stores in CA and have for years and years.
I happened upon about 12 huge bags of nice and new clothes on a curb one day and took a huge lot to our local Jesus House. They literally told me to throw brand new clothes in this trashy, filthy looking bin full of used dirty clothes. They let people come in off the street and pick thru for stuff to wear. They wear it til it's dirty and leave it on park benches, in the gutter and on the streets. So much for that.
I was on vacation in Yulee, Florida a few days ago. I went to their Goodwill and they had a Hello Kitty gumball machine listed for $3.99. I am a huge Hello Kitty fan so I decided to pick it up. Turns out they sell from 30 to 60 dollars online! After cleaning the inside of it thoroughly I bought some gumballs to put inside of it and it’s amazing. Looks so cute in my room
People should allocate their blame on Goodwill for raising prices and opening separate designer stores (when they got the items FOR FREE), not the reseller who paid for the items they’re trying to resell.
Unfortunately in a capitalist society, the rich take care of each other while the less fortunate attack one another. They need to go pick on the billionaires who make 10,000% profit instead of resellers who are just trying to make an honest living in a capitalist economy.
Goodwill in my area is not a place for someone to go because they can’t afford a lot and think they can get things there. Literally mine has Walmart clearance items for more money than Walmart sells them for. It’s ridiculous. If you don’t join there club for 25.00 it’s expensive. Gone are the half price days or senior days. I cant afford Goodwill anymore lol
I stopped donating and shopping the big second hand shops because their are frequently overpriced..I've seen many item with the clearance tags brand new from Ross and Walmart..being priced more than what they sold for in the store..now days I donate to a place called the clothes closet in our area that allows people that are in need to come in and pick up what they need at no charge....many people that use this are working but unable to purchase clothing and household stuff because of the cost of living increases..
A big thrift by where I used to live (few years before covid) would advertise how they help military families doing all this stuff for them, and all they did was drive them to local non-profits for military families...and they collected a bunch of grant money, but wouldn't give-up any of their donations just pocket the grant money above the gas to drive them places. Also around Halloween they would have dirty/damaged obviously used costumes & price them for more than you could buy them new. They started labeling other things throughout the year new that obviously wasn't & charge & arm & a leg... People thought I was weird when I'd say I'd rather throw something out then donate anything to that specific store, but why support the greedy when there is a nice thrift-store a block away that actually is for an animal shelter & wasn't being so shady??
I would love to find another place to donate. But the thrift stores will only take items that are recently bought. Doesn't matter if they are in new condition and a brand name. If they weren't bought within the last year or so, forget about it. Then they lower the price every week, until yr profit is Nothing! There just isn't any where around me to take my items. I don't have time to list online and sale then mail. It's so sad.

The green pan is a Panini Press, to make hot pressed sandwiches ( Like a hot pressed cuban etc. ) Also good to use as a bacon press to keep back from shriveling up when cooking.
Goodwill is not so good. Their proceeds are not allocated like we think. Also, they take the really good stuff and auction it off. Their prices are outlandish at the SoCal stores!!!
The silver thing is a potato ricer. I use one when I make homemade lefsa. Also the ridges on the handles of the one will sit on a pan or a bowl, the one I have is probably 40 years old and hand held. That one would be really nice. Great haul and that cast iron pan looks like a great bacon or pannini making pan.

The silver press is a spetizel noodle press, if it has I tight fit from top to bottom. A potato or rice press seem to have a gap. I had a hard time finding a real spetizel press and potato and rice press didn't work because of the fit of the press. But I finally found one.
It’s very sad how Goodwill’s prices have really gone up despite how many folks are struggling through the current economy… to add insult to injury they frequently put out houseware items that are dirty or broken. And yes they do sell the better quality item’s through their Website which charges a handling fee in addition to the shipping fees. Lastly, many are not aware that some of their “employees” are completing community service as a requirement mandated by local Courts for those who have been convicted of misdemeanors or other petty crimes. This essentially translates to free labor. Remember, Goodwill is NOT a Non-profit charity.

I have mixed feeling about this whole reselling thing. I am glad people are finding a side hustle, I am glad things are getting recycled and reused but the drag is that those of us who donate hope it goes to someone who might actually need it. I paid a lot for those items, I don't need them anymore so I want to pass them on. I drop them at the thrift store, they sort and take the best of the best and sell it by the pound to buyers who have high end vintage stores or who sell to high end. The bottom of the barrel non-sellable stuff (stained shirts, towels, broken furniture, t-shirts with holes in them) get resold to people who buy fibers. What ever is left gets put out. Then the resellers come in and take what the first round didn't catch and anything that is nice a resealable. That means that people who actually need something and can only afford to buy from a thrift store are stuck with garbage. I live next to a big thrift store and the sellers flock and clean it out. There was one woman who needed a roasting pan for Thanksgiving and she was trying to decide between two of them. She was an older woman making dinner for her family and she was on a fixed income. The seller came in and swiped the better one while she was deciding. I was so pissed. I said "hey she is trying to make a decision still". He just walked away with the nice enameled roaster. How did I know he was a seller, they walk around with their cells, basket full and price stuff online. Then they put back the stuff that won't bring top dollar. The roaster she was left with was awful, I had an extra one at home and dropped it off to her house with an extra crock pot I had. This goes for kids toys too, kids get left with the junk while sellers take all the good stuff.
thanks for you statement and opinion - all valid points - what about the people that need money and have the drive to make a side hustle because the regular job doesnt pay the bills and this money helps them pay them...... someone will always have a problem with something and an opinion - i value all of them so i do appreciate the comment.
Keep in mind, money made at Goodwill, VOA, etc goes to run all of their programs - they train folks, house them, hire them for their stores. They love to sell to whoever! It’s a win-win-win!!
Resellers should not be ridiculed for making our meager living. We are not selling what we received for free. The thrift stores are reselling too. Literally ALL of the clothes I wear, I buy from the thrift stores. However, if I see something that is resellable, I will buy that as well. My suggestion is that you donate directly to the homeless shelter, if you do not like the idea of your donations being sold for profit.
I do t resell but with my husband out of work for a year and 6 kids if I did it would be to put food in the table so do t just assume the resellers don’t need the help as well. I have been in line at the food pantry and heard ladies telling me I should take the free clothes they over every other month at the place even if I don’t need them so I can resell them on mercari or some other place to turn them into some pocket mo ey for what I do need and or want for my family. They are truly poor and have found ways to turn theifted items into $$ to buy what they need.

Goodwill stores have some nerve. They get items for free and are lucky to get whatever they get, no matter the amount. People don’t have to donate to them and their prices are a farce. It’s cheaper to buy new in some cases. Sheer greed. They can kiss my ass
In the U.K. we have charity shops whose mission it is to get the best prices for items they sell as profits go to the charity I’m assuming Goodwills business model is different?

I'm a manager in a high volume thrift business. Stop with the "it's all free"..... There are trucks and fuel and warehouses filled with people employed to sort through things you wouldn't want to touch to find the things that people want to buy. I'd give you 0ne day in my production warehouse. Donated goods do not equal free. Stop by and I'll give you a large trash bag filled with dirty socks and underwear. They'll be a pair of shoes that I'll price for $7.99. Let me know.
Without waiting till the end, the green cast iron pan is a Panini griddle, and the silver thing is called a potato ricer which means you squeeze the potato through it and it makes it small like rice so it's easier to mash. I've got a few of them after my Dad passed but after listing then for $5 each, no one wanted them. I have one, that was still new in the box at a bridal shower and I still have the other one.

The golden era of thrift shops was in the mid 80’s. CD’s came out, so records were cHEAp. Vintage dresses/shoes. Super 8 cameras. And it wasn’t $10 for a used pair of frickin jeans. Christ on a crutch, I know how to barter, but on Halloween 2016, I was in my local Goodwill looking for inspiration. Found an absolutely hideous beehive wig, corroded Bobby pins stuck into it. Perfect to be A.Winehouse. They wouldn’t budge on $15. Are you kidding me? Christ on a crutch. I miss thrifting. It’s just not the same. They know what’s worth more, and it goes thru the strainer of employees with phones. I’m not walking out with a deal, I leave feeling taken for a ride.
Best thing I found at goodwill is a spoon I’m not sure how to get rid of but looks like a $40 comp online. Other than that you might luck out on furniture but ours here is pricey for not that great of stuff most times, too. I like regular thrift stores more for sure!

And suddenly, it was ok for bougie followers to wear “used clothes.” 💔 and the yuppies were willing to pay a lot for vintage clothes. It destroyed one of my greatest joys in life. The Green pan is an "Enameled Cast Iron Grill & Press" hope that helps. It's for steaks & burgers to cook indoors. It has the spout to pour off the grease as the meat cooks. Yes you "could" use if for panini but that's not it's true use.
I knew it was for mainly red meats, but you could cook chicken filets & fajitas! Presses [the top] are used by cooks who use restaurant grills, to press the meat into the heat, to give it those browned grill marks.
A good way to get out stains, especially oil ones are to use Dawn dish detergent - cover stain and let sit for an hour or so, then soak in water with dissolved Oxyiclean for an hour or two and then launder.

I go to Hobby Lobby, Walmart, The Bay, Michael's, clothing store, shoe store..spend money (the stores make money...check!) I have a trunk full of stuff for the thrift store (I am decluttering what I purchased from the stores above/have clean house.... check!) The thrift store sells my items that were donated/free (they make money....check!) The person who just bought my boutique shoes, sells on Ebay (makes some money..check!) The food chain is alive and well... this is Economy 101 folks! Buy/Sell...wash rinse repeat... Some people have problems with the resellers... but it all makes the world go round!
Last I checked ours are about $6.99 which I find rediculous on a used shoe. I do not purchase shoes unless they look barely worn and find them really unique.

That metal device with the holes in it and the long handles is a Potato Ricer. What you do is boil potatoes in their jackets (skins) until they are tender, put them in the basket (usually one potato at a time), put the lid down over the potato and squeeze the handles together. the cooked potato goes through and the skin remains in the basket. Super creamy mashed potatoes with less work. I "inherited" mind from my mother. Those are very hard to find anymore.

Dawn & babyganics laundry spray are great for the oil stains. Also, baby wipes for the shoes. Not really wet enough to damage anything, but does a really great job. I teach preschool, baby wipes clean EVERYTHING!
I am not a reseller, but I always use EBay to check what things are selling for to determine if it is a good deal to purchase it. My Goodwill stores are usually overpricing items or selling them like they are new. Before COVID, you could buy things for a great price at Goodwill, but deals are few and far between now.
Think about it. Someone donates. The thrift store sets a price. Someone buys that item. The thrift store makes what they were asking for it. Does it really matter what happens to the item after that?

This year I bought a Brighton purse at the Goodwill half off sale. Never heard of Brighton before until I googled it. Got the purse for $7.50. Someone at the GW must not have realized how much a new Brighton purse normally costs! My gain!
The way to fix what Goodwill is doing is to communicate it to people. When we educate people they will stop donating any goods to them and they will have nothing to discriminate to sell to anyone. 💯💯💯
I stopped donating to Goodwill because I discovered where all my stuff was going: eBay and Amazon. I ban both those sites so why would I contribute to their success?

New viewer. Love your show! My interest was peaked by the "kiwi Green enameled cast iron grill pan with matching press (lid) by "outset" (that's every descriptive key word I used!) What sets yours apart from the current models I found, is the fact that it has those forged steel handles. Other info: The company "Outset" makes high end (therefore high priced) grilling cookware and accessories. The kiwi green color is no longer available, so is referenced as "vintage". Although you could probably make more $$$ if a collector found the item...you will easily make the $45 plus shipping that you mentioned. Great job on your content!!!
The silver thing is a potato ricer! I have my mom’s old one. She would make Lefse every holiday season and would go through hundreds of pounds of russet potatoes making them.
By now you already know that is a German Spaetzle Maker. Have one and have made the Spaetzle with it. It's quite special for our family as my brother was an exchange student and it's now in my kitchen and starting it's own tradition with my young adult kids.

The silver thing is a Potato Ricer. I have one over 40 years old that belongs to my mom. I use for homemade gnocchi. The one you picked up looks really high end quality.
The square pan is for meats. Bacon is great in that because it keeps it pretty flat and of course that lip helps you get the grease out. The other is a vegetable masher. You can mash potatoes or cooked carrots or any other root vegetable.
@@beardedthriftmachine I googled outset square pan enamel and saw a few similar pans. It might be a Walmart or target brand. I didn’t spend a lot of time looking. I got better search results with fewer keywords words. I searched green but it looks lime. The pans that looked like yours had high end brand names. Maybe the company got bought out etc.
OMG that "potato press" is a german noodle spaetzle maker. You press flour batter through the holes into boiling water. It's basically the german version of pasta for food like "mac n cheese."
Love the video, unfortunately all the Goodwills around me are no good, as consumers have picked up on the reselling (I’m not a reseller but love to thrift) they no longer donate anything that is in good condition anymore, they typically donate it to shelters or places where the direct public does not have access to it. When they do donate they will cut all the tags out so you can’t tell what the brand is. Love the video!

Good! People donate their belongings so the less privileged will to be able to access decent used goods, not so people can grab up all the good items that were donated for their own profit.
@@MrsBotany. I’m well aware as I typically donate to domestic violence shelters. I personally don’t resell, but I work and got to school (pay out of pocket) so I have pretty limited funds at the moment so it’s unfortunate that I can’t find anything decent in Goodwill where the price is not the same as a regular retail store as I do not qualify to utilize any of the programs where I live.

I used to resent resellers shopping in thrift stores, too. The reason I resented them was because thrift stores were the only place I could afford nice things, and I felt like the resellers didn't need the bargains even close to as much as low income people do. I am still low income, but my income is even lower than it used to be, and each dollar buys even less...but I do all my shopping on line now, because I am older and don't have a car and can't walk very far these days. And the goodwill close to me doesn't have much of anything good anyway. But, you should realize that when low income people resent resellers in thrift shops, they have good reason to.
You not having a good income has nothing to do with resellers. You can't fault those of us that are making our own money just because you don't agree with it.

I used to be a picker but Goodwill saves their good stuff for their own online auctions (plus more and more, people now know what they have.) Picking isn't worth it anymore.

Can you discuss how you set your shppng prices. I stopped selling on Ebay because it was too hard to figure out how much to charge for shipping. When you list you don't know where the buyer will be at so how do you determine shipping before your item sells? I've lost money that way.

I just act dumb and say, 'what is a reseller?' Then I listen to see if they have a negative view of resellers or not. If they have a negative attitude, I then say ohhh.. hmm. And keep shopping. If they have a positive attitude towards resellers I then say yes... I do as a side hustle for my son's medical expenses...

outset cast iron, looks like it's for broiling steaks in the oven. Kinda grills both sides at once. Doesn't look like it should be put on the stove or grill as the painted part isn't made for direct heat
I think the metal thing with little holes in it is a potato ricer. You squeeze cooked potatoes through it instead of mashing them by hand. I've never had a ricer, but I went to a bunch of thrift stores to find the thing I saw my mother use to grate potatoes to make potato pancakes. It's a coarse screen of heavy wires in a rectangular metal frame, with a metal handle. Rub the potatoes against the screen to get pulp. Then strain out most of the water, add a few other ingredients, and fry it like pancakes.

There are a couple thrift tubers out there that I subscribe to...'Hairy Tornado' and 'Froggy flips'. Their videos are fun to watch and have a breakdown at the end as well as a comp when the item is first discovered.
When I first saw the green grill piece with the lid that fits into the pan, I thought it was for bacon, since II have a bacon press I use when cooking bacon on the stove-top. With the spout to pour out bacon grease, I really think that's your answer.
It's kind of frustrating ppl with low incomes can't just go to the goodwill and get ahold of stuff they otherwise couldn't afford without having to worry about resellers coming in and taking all the good stuff first. Not trying to knock a hustle but I'm pretty sure the majority of ppl who donate are doing it with the intention of it going to someone less fortunate. Not to someone's side hustle

the big metal thing is a "ricer" you put peeled cooked potatoes thru it, it sguashes them thru the little holes and they become mashed potatoes whne u add milk or butter to them. amd the pan with the lid thing is a grill pan and the lid thats too small is not a lid. its a weight so u can weight ur burgers or steaks to get those good grill marks on them even on the stove.
I am new here and I have to say, I'm impressed by how you get so into thrifting! I love to thrift but always want to keep my purchases. Everyone in these times are doing what they can to make it financially so if that works for you, go for it. Times are tough. Great video!

I refuse to donate anything to Goodwill because they get the stuff free they pick through it and resell it online. The rest of the junk they have left on the floor have jacked up prices and they got all this for absolutely $0. I refuse to go to Goodwill or donate to Goodwill I might buy something there for a dollar or maybe $3 that's it I'm not spending money like that at goodwill. And only if it's something I need. I do have to say that yes resellers have caused all of the prices in thrift stores to go up because they know that that's what people are doing. So it's not fun anymore it used to be great back in the day but now it's just kind of cutthroat and you know that's the way it goes.
I ABSOLUTELY REFUSE to go to Goodwill for the same reasons other ppl are saying... they get their stuff for free and sell it for(IMO) outrageous mark up! I also won't donate my stuff there! I found a place where I live that will actually let u get a certain amount of clothing free every 3 months. They also allow u to get a certain amount of household items free once per year. To me, this is the way it should be and I have no problem donating to them!!!
Used items are cycled and recycled, upcycled, transformed, collected and on and on. People work at the Goodwill, yes, it employs people, began with a mission by a minister in Boston about 125 years ago. A successful nonprofit. Help and rehabilitate. Same deal with Salvation army. They provide a social service and resellers show initiative and learn the market and self employ to support or supplement their incomes. And when they share their prices on youtube, they teach others something about items and their own values. Whenther the anticipated profits happen as one is lead to believe is another matter. All our ideas as to what things should cost are grabbed from all sorts of places...the sky, the stock market, comparison shopping --accurate to innacurate. Who drives up the mmarket...well, it's volitale especiall with collectibles, vintage. It's ever changing, and some stores do clear outs with huge reductions; that's when you dive in. Look to yard sales where the profit market has often not penetrated where you can bargain. then you'll have less resentment and the wholeething of hunting can be more fun. I loved my Goodwill in the used store row on East 23rd in Manhattan...from Opera to Housing Works, Salvation Army and the Lower East Side Settlement Thrift. Helpful and friendly workers in all the stores..Surprises and disappointments. Low end to high end. Near misses and great finds (Tiffany pin for $4.). That is the game.
Yep, that metal thing is a ricer, used to 'rice' up cooked veggies for babies and toddlers. Or to help with mashing. Glad to see you can actually make a living out of reselling thrifted items; people don't realise how much work goes into listing items for sale on eBay or whichever suitable marketplace. I get bored after listing about 3 items, probably why a lot of people just donate stuff rather than spend the time trying to sell it. Good luck with the channel.

Been reselling full time on eBay since 2010 and I NEVER tell anyone I’m a reseller because they will ask where I get my stuff and that’s a secret that will never be divulged. Never tell people in public you’re a reseller! Resellers are the main reason Goodwill keeps raising their prices. They know a reseller will pay $10 for a high end shirt. If I can’t make at LEAST a 300% markup on a particular item, I don’t buy it. I do shop at Goodwill from time to time but prices have increased so I’m not feeling it like I did before. Ridiculously overpriced.

But I can’t believe you get the prices you get. I would never pay $40 for a used shirt. I saw a Burberry mens shirt for $29 & was put out. Are they overseas buyers.
People always ask me if I'm a reseller. 90% of the stuff I keep or give to family. I'm a budget shopper because times are tough. Not everyone is a reseller. Our bins are now 2.79lb unless you buy 25lbs of stuff.
I'm all for people having side hustles, however in my area the thrift stores have been picked over so much that i can't even buy my kids decent pants that normally go for 60 to 80 in regular clothes, the prices for clothes are getting ridiculous. Reselling has gotten so big that people are now unable to find decent clothes in the thrift stores to actually use them. Now with that said you are doing the reselling the right way. You are going in and being very selective, and not taking everything. Like i said i have positive things to say about it as well as negatives because there are groups of people that will just take everything and leave nothing for others to buy because they need to save money for bills.

I am extremely selective, because what I buy I also use as patterns to build clothes from our clothes that get torn up that can no longer be mended. And I buy the supplies from the thrift store to sew with as well (sewing supplies, fabrics as well as fabrics from buying unmatched sheet sets) and i never take more than my fair share

I just commented on someone else's commented that we have a place where I live that let's us poor folks get a certain amount of outfits free every 3 months and household items once per year. I believe that green grill is a panini pan. Also would lookup French enamel grill pan. Would use it for grilled cheese,paninni's for sure. I have a French enamel casserole dish that I paid $349 new.

Try cold pressed orange oil on oil or grease spots. You put it on full strength rub it in. Let it set on the stain for 30 or so minutes. If the stain is old you might have to do it a couple of times. But I saved about 12 golf shirts for a friends husband. The other thing was the whole lo load of laundry smell so good.

And knives 🔪 open and for everyone to just stick their fingers in would for starters be a health and safety disaster let alone that any knives over 3 inches and one would carry this without having a reasonable excuse (I.e. a chef to or from work but have to be carried in a locked case) they would close the store down charity or not and everyone would be prosecuted, so that would not work here. Anyway, back to the video and carry on the great work. I for one enjoy them. 👍

Just a note...as a former thrift store manager/production lead I want to advise all of you to avoid the stuffed animals all together. We began finding too many of them infested with bed bugs so our stores got rid of the all together..better safe than sorry. Stuffed toys are a hot bed for these critters.

A stuffie could be bagged and taken to a coin op laundromat with high temp dryers then just leave em bagged for a few weeks. We had a child spend the night who had them in a sleeping bag and were able to clear all our bedding that way.
Our landfills are full enough. Beds beds can be removed and stuffed animals can be sanitized.

I’ve had a really hard time finding deals at Goodwill since they started pulling valuable items off their shelves and putting them on their shop goodwill auction site. I quit going to goodwill and started shopping at the local thrift stores. They seem to work better for me.

Yeah the goodwill around my area went up a lot on prices that I can go get some items brand new for the prices they put on them. Sometimes I think they forget that the items are donated and they are not Walmart

In Australia our thrift stores and be 10x difference in price for the same items. Wealthier the area the more expensive the price. A lot ask eBay comps for what they sell 🤦♂️
There are a lot of valid points. Just a note: I tried donating to a woman's shelter & they didn't want what I had, women's clothes, shoes, feminine items etc, because they'd had so many donations & had no place to store anything extra. I donate to St Vincent de Paul because if they know of people who have had a fire or other disaster, for instance, they will give them whatever they need for free.
Salvation army does too but they give you the absolute garbage that they don't want to send to the landfill. Iowa Sally's truck all of their good item to thrift stores in CA and have for years and years.
St Vincent de Paul is where I'm taking my donations tomorrow!
I happened upon about 12 huge bags of nice and new clothes on a curb one day and took a huge lot to our local Jesus House. They literally told me to throw brand new clothes in this trashy, filthy looking bin full of used dirty clothes. They let people come in off the street and pick thru for stuff to wear. They wear it til it's dirty and leave it on park benches, in the gutter and on the streets.
So much for that.

I was on vacation in Yulee, Florida a few days ago. I went to their Goodwill and they had a Hello Kitty gumball machine listed for $3.99. I am a huge Hello Kitty fan so I decided to pick it up. Turns out they sell from 30 to 60 dollars online! After cleaning the inside of it thoroughly I bought some gumballs to put inside of it and it’s amazing. Looks so cute in my room

Goodwill in my area is not a place for someone to go because they can’t afford a lot and think they can get things there. Literally mine has Walmart clearance items for more money than Walmart sells them for. It’s ridiculous. If you don’t join there club for 25.00 it’s expensive. Gone are the half price days or senior days. I cant afford Goodwill anymore lol

I stopped donating and shopping the big second hand shops because their are frequently overpriced..I've seen many item with the clearance tags brand new from Ross and Walmart..being priced more than what they sold for in the store..now days I donate to a place called the clothes closet in our area that allows people that are in need to come in and pick up what they need at no charge....many people that use this are working but unable to purchase clothing and household stuff because of the cost of living increases..
A big thrift by where I used to live (few years before covid) would advertise how they help military families doing all this stuff for them, and all they did was drive them to local non-profits for military families...and they collected a bunch of grant money, but wouldn't give-up any of their donations just pocket the grant money above the gas to drive them places.
Also around Halloween they would have dirty/damaged obviously used costumes & price them for more than you could buy them new. They started labeling other things throughout the year new that obviously wasn't & charge & arm & a leg... People thought I was weird when I'd say I'd rather throw something out then donate anything to that specific store, but why support the greedy when there is a nice thrift-store a block away that actually is for an animal shelter & wasn't being so shady??
I would love to find another place to donate. But the thrift stores will only take items that are recently bought. Doesn't matter if they are in new condition and a brand name. If they weren't bought within the last year or so, forget about it. Then they lower the price every week, until yr profit is Nothing! There just isn't any where around me to take my items. I don't have time to list online and sale then mail. It's so sad.

The silver thing is a potato ricer. I use one when I make homemade lefsa. Also the ridges on the handles of the one will sit on a pan or a bowl, the one I have is probably 40 years old and hand held. That one would be really nice. Great haul and that cast iron pan looks like a great bacon or pannini making pan.

The silver press is a spetizel noodle press, if it has I tight fit from top to bottom. A potato or rice press seem to have a gap. I had a hard time finding a real spetizel press and potato and rice press didn't work because of the fit of the press. But I finally found one.
I use one for potato pancakes.

And yes they do sell the better quality item’s through their Website which charges a handling fee in addition to the shipping fees. Lastly, many are not aware that some of their “employees” are completing community service as a requirement mandated by local
Courts for those who have been convicted of misdemeanors or other petty crimes. This essentially translates to free labor. Remember, Goodwill is NOT a Non-profit charity.

I have mixed feeling about this whole reselling thing. I am glad people are finding a side hustle, I am glad things are getting recycled and reused but the drag is that those of us who donate hope it goes to someone who might actually need it. I paid a lot for those items, I don't need them anymore so I want to pass them on. I drop them at the thrift store, they sort and take the best of the best and sell it by the pound to buyers who have high end vintage stores or who sell to high end. The bottom of the barrel non-sellable stuff (stained shirts, towels, broken furniture, t-shirts with holes in them) get resold to people who buy fibers. What ever is left gets put out. Then the resellers come in and take what the first round didn't catch and anything that is nice a resealable. That means that people who actually need something and can only afford to buy from a thrift store are stuck with garbage. I live next to a big thrift store and the sellers flock and clean it out. There was one woman who needed a roasting pan for Thanksgiving and she was trying to decide between two of them. She was an older woman making dinner for her family and she was on a fixed income. The seller came in and swiped the better one while she was deciding. I was so pissed. I said "hey she is trying to make a decision still". He just walked away with the nice enameled roaster. How did I know he was a seller, they walk around with their cells, basket full and price stuff online. Then they put back the stuff that won't bring top dollar. The roaster she was left with was awful, I had an extra one at home and dropped it off to her house with an extra crock pot I had. This goes for kids toys too, kids get left with the junk while sellers take all the good stuff.

Keep in mind, money made at Goodwill, VOA, etc goes to run all of their programs - they train folks, house them, hire them for their stores. They love to sell to whoever! It’s a win-win-win!!

Resellers should not be ridiculed for making our meager living. We are not selling what we received for free. The thrift stores are reselling too. Literally ALL of the clothes I wear, I buy from the thrift stores. However, if I see something that is resellable, I will buy that as well. My suggestion is that you donate directly to the homeless shelter, if you do not like the idea of your donations being sold for profit.
I do t resell but with my husband out of work for a year and 6 kids if I did it would be to put food in the table so do t just assume the resellers don’t need the help as well. I have been in line at the food pantry and heard ladies telling me I should take the free clothes they over every other month at the place even if I don’t need them so I can resell them on mercari or some other place to turn them into some pocket mo ey for what I do need and or want for my family. They are truly poor and have found ways to turn theifted items into $$ to buy what they need.

Goodwill stores have some nerve. They get items for free and are lucky to get whatever they get, no matter the amount. People don’t have to donate to them and their prices are a farce. It’s cheaper to buy new in some cases. Sheer greed. They can kiss my ass
In the U.K. we have charity shops whose mission it is to get the best prices for items they sell as profits go to the charity I’m assuming Goodwills business model is different?

I'm a manager in a high volume thrift business. Stop with the "it's all free"..... There are trucks and fuel and warehouses filled with people employed to sort through things you wouldn't want to touch to find the things that people want to buy. I'd give you 0ne day in my production warehouse. Donated goods do not equal free. Stop by and I'll give you a large trash bag filled with dirty socks and underwear. They'll be a pair of shoes that I'll price for $7.99. Let me know.

Without waiting till the end, the green cast iron pan is a Panini griddle, and the silver thing is called a potato ricer which means you squeeze the potato through it and it makes it small like rice so it's easier to mash. I've got a few of them after my Dad passed but after listing then for $5 each, no one wanted them. I have one, that was still new in the box at a bridal shower and I still have the other one.

The golden era of thrift shops was in the mid 80’s. CD’s came out, so records were cHEAp. Vintage dresses/shoes. Super 8 cameras. And it wasn’t $10 for a used pair of frickin jeans.
Christ on a crutch, I know how to barter, but on Halloween 2016, I was in my local Goodwill looking for inspiration. Found an absolutely hideous beehive wig, corroded Bobby pins stuck into it. Perfect to be A.Winehouse. They wouldn’t budge on $15. Are you kidding me? Christ on a crutch.

Best thing I found at goodwill is a spoon I’m not sure how to get rid of but looks like a $40 comp online. Other than that you might luck out on furniture but ours here is pricey for not that great of stuff most times, too. I like regular thrift stores more for sure!

And suddenly, it was ok for bougie followers to wear “used clothes.” 💔 and the yuppies were willing to pay a lot for vintage clothes. It destroyed one of my greatest joys in life. The Green pan is an "Enameled Cast Iron Grill & Press" hope that helps. It's for steaks & burgers to cook indoors. It has the spout to pour off the grease as the meat cooks. Yes you "could" use if for panini but that's not it's true use.

I knew it was for mainly red meats, but you could cook chicken filets & fajitas! Presses [the top] are used by cooks who use restaurant grills, to press the meat into the heat, to give it those browned grill marks.
A good way to get out stains, especially oil ones are to use Dawn dish detergent - cover stain and let sit for an hour or so, then soak in water with dissolved Oxyiclean for an hour or two and then launder.

What you do is boil potatoes in their jackets (skins) until they are tender, put them in the basket (usually one potato at a time), put the lid down over the potato and squeeze the handles together. the cooked potato goes through and the skin remains in the basket. Super creamy mashed potatoes with less work. I "inherited" mind from my mother. Those are very hard to find anymore.

Dawn & babyganics laundry spray are great for the oil stains. Also, baby wipes for the shoes. Not really wet enough to damage anything, but does a really great job. I teach preschool, baby wipes clean EVERYTHING!

I am not a reseller, but I always use EBay to check what things are selling for to determine if it is a good deal to purchase it. My Goodwill stores are usually overpricing items or selling them like they are new. Before COVID, you could buy things for a great price at Goodwill, but deals are few and far between now.
Think about it. Someone donates. The thrift store sets a price. Someone buys that item. The thrift store makes what they were asking for it. Does it really matter what happens to the item after that?
The green cast iron is a panini press. Outset is sold on Walmarts website. I hope that helps a little bit.☺️ I tried looking for this one and couldn’t seem to find it.

This year I bought a Brighton purse at the Goodwill half off sale. Never heard of Brighton before until I googled it. Got the purse for $7.50. Someone at the GW must not have realized how much a new Brighton purse normally costs! My gain!
The way to fix what Goodwill is doing is to communicate it to people. When we educate people they will stop donating any goods to them and they will have nothing to discriminate to sell to anyone.

I stopped donating to Goodwill because I discovered where all my stuff was going: eBay and Amazon. I ban both those sites so why would I contribute to their success?

New viewer. Love your show! My interest was peaked by the "kiwi Green enameled cast iron grill pan with matching press (lid) by "outset" (that's every descriptive key word I used!) What sets yours apart from the current models I found, is the fact that it has those forged steel handles. Other info: The company "Outset" makes high end (therefore high priced) grilling cookware and accessories. The kiwi green color is no longer available, so is referenced as "vintage". Although you could probably make more $$$ if a collector found the item...you will easily make the $45 plus shipping that you mentioned. Great job on your content!!!

The square pan is for meats. Bacon is great in that because it keeps it pretty flat and of course that lip helps you get the grease out. The other is a vegetable masher. You can mash potatoes or cooked carrots or any other root vegetable.

@@beardedthriftmachine I googled outset square pan enamel and saw a few similar pans. It might be a Walmart or target brand. I didn’t spend a lot of time looking. I got better search results with fewer keywords words. I searched green but it looks lime. The pans that looked like yours had high end brand names. Maybe the company got bought out etc.

OMG that "potato press" is a german noodle spaetzle maker. You press flour batter through the holes into boiling water. It's basically the german version of pasta for food like "mac n cheese."

Love the video, unfortunately all the Goodwills around me are no good, as consumers have picked up on the reselling (I’m not a reseller but love to thrift) they no longer donate anything that is in good condition anymore, they typically donate it to shelters or places where the direct public does not have access to it. When they do donate they will cut all the tags out so you can’t tell what the brand is. Love the video!

Good! People donate their belongings so the less privileged will to be able to access decent used goods, not so people can grab up all the good items that were donated for their own profit.

I personally don’t resell, but I work and got to school (pay out of pocket) so I have pretty limited funds at the moment so it’s unfortunate that I can’t find anything decent in Goodwill where the price is not the same as a regular retail store as I do not qualify to utilize any of the programs where I live.

I used to resent resellers shopping in thrift stores, too. The reason I resented them was because thrift stores were the only place I could afford nice things, and I felt like the resellers didn't need the bargains even close to as much as low income people do. I am still low income, but my income is even lower than it used to be, and each dollar buys even less...but I do all my shopping on line now, because I am older and don't have a car and can't walk very far these days. And the goodwill close to me doesn't have much of anything good anyway. But, you should realize that when low income people resent resellers in thrift shops, they have good reason to.

Can you discuss how you set your shppng prices. I stopped selling on Ebay because it was too hard to figure out how much to charge for shipping. When you list you don't know where the buyer will be at so how do you determine shipping before your item sells? I've lost money that way.
i only do calculated shipping - so i type in the weight and size of the total package then have the buy pay shipping

I just act dumb and say, 'what is a reseller?' Then I listen to see if they have a negative view of resellers or not. If they have a negative attitude, I then say ohhh.. hmm. And keep shopping. If they have a positive attitude towards resellers I then say yes... I do as a side hustle for my son's medical expenses...

outset cast iron, looks like it's for broiling steaks in the oven. Kinda grills both sides at once. Doesn't look like it should be put on the stove or grill as the painted part isn't made for direct heat

I think the metal thing with little holes in it is a potato ricer. You squeeze cooked potatoes through it instead of mashing them by hand.
I've never had a ricer, but I went to a bunch of thrift stores to find the thing I saw my mother use to grate potatoes to make potato pancakes. It's a coarse screen of heavy wires in a rectangular metal frame, with a metal handle. Rub the potatoes against the screen to get pulp. Then strain out most of the water, add a few other ingredients, and fry it like pancakes.

Their videos are fun to watch and have a breakdown at the end as well as a comp when the item is first discovered.
Found the cast iron in red going for 43.99 used. Look under enameled and you'll see it. Red says it's cottage collection. Hope that helps

When I first saw the green grill piece with the lid that fits into the pan, I thought it was for bacon, since II have a bacon press I use when cooking bacon on the stove-top. With the spout to pour out bacon grease, I really think that's your answer.

It's kind of frustrating ppl with low incomes can't just go to the goodwill and get ahold of stuff they otherwise couldn't afford without having to worry about resellers coming in and taking all the good stuff first. Not trying to knock a hustle but I'm pretty sure the majority of ppl who donate are doing it with the intention of it going to someone less fortunate. Not to someone's side hustle

the big metal thing is a "ricer" you put peeled cooked potatoes thru it, it sguashes them thru the little holes and they become mashed potatoes whne u add milk or butter to them. amd the pan with the lid thing is a grill pan and the lid thats too small is not a lid. its a weight so u can weight ur burgers or steaks to get those good grill marks on them even on the stove.
I am new here and I have to say, I'm impressed by how you get so into thrifting! I love to thrift but always want to keep my purchases. Everyone in these times are doing what they can to make it financially so if that works for you, go for it. Times are tough. Great video!

I refuse to donate anything to Goodwill because they get the stuff free they pick through it and resell it online. The rest of the junk they have left on the floor have jacked up prices and they got all this for absolutely $0. I refuse to go to Goodwill or donate to Goodwill I might buy something there for a dollar or maybe $3 that's it I'm not spending money like that at goodwill. And only if it's something I need. I do have to say that yes resellers have caused all of the prices in thrift stores to go up because they know that that's what people are doing. So it's not fun anymore it used to be great back in the day but now it's just kind of cutthroat and you know that's the way it goes.
I ABSOLUTELY REFUSE to go to Goodwill for the same reasons other ppl are saying... they get their stuff for free and sell it for(IMO) outrageous mark up! I also won't donate my stuff there! I found a place where I live that will actually let u get a certain amount of clothing free every 3 months. They also allow u to get a certain amount of household items free once per year. To me, this is the way it should be and I have no problem donating to them!!!

Used items are cycled and recycled, upcycled, transformed, collected and on and on. People work at the Goodwill, yes, it employs people, began with a mission by a minister in Boston about 125 years ago. A successful nonprofit. Help and rehabilitate. Same deal with Salvation army. They provide a social service and resellers show initiative and learn the market and self employ to support or supplement their incomes. And when they share their prices on youtube, they teach others something about items and their own values. Whenther the anticipated profits happen as one is lead to believe is another matter. All our ideas as to what things should cost are grabbed from all sorts of places...the sky, the stock market, comparison shopping --accurate to innacurate. Who drives up the mmarket...well, it's volitale especiall with collectibles, vintage. It's ever changing, and some stores do clear outs with huge reductions; that's when you dive in. Look to yard sales where the profit market has often not penetrated where you can bargain. then you'll have less resentment and the wholeething of hunting can be more fun. I loved my Goodwill in the used store row on East 23rd in Manhattan...from Opera to Housing Works, Salvation Army and the Lower East Side Settlement Thrift. Helpful and friendly workers in all the stores..Surprises and disappointments. Low end to high end. Near misses and great finds (Tiffany pin for $4.). That is the game.

Been reselling full time on eBay since 2010 and I NEVER tell anyone I’m a reseller because they will ask where I get my stuff and that’s a secret that will never be divulged. Never tell people in public you’re a reseller! Resellers are the main reason Goodwill keeps raising their prices. They know a reseller will pay $10 for a high end shirt. If I can’t make at LEAST a 300% markup on a particular item, I don’t buy it.
I do shop at Goodwill from time to time but prices have increased so I’m not feeling it like I did before. Ridiculously overpriced.
People have given me stuff for free because I do tell them but I can see your point. Its all what you want to do and how to run it.

But I can’t believe you get the prices you get. I would never pay $40 for a used shirt. I saw a Burberry mens shirt for $29 & was put out. Are they overseas buyers.
People always ask me if I'm a reseller. 90% of the stuff I keep or give to family. I'm a budget shopper because times are tough. Not everyone is a reseller. Our bins are now 2.79lb unless you buy 25lbs of stuff.
I'm all for people having side hustles, however in my area the thrift stores have been picked over so much that i can't even buy my kids decent pants that normally go for 60 to 80 in regular clothes, the prices for clothes are getting ridiculous. Reselling has gotten so big that people are now unable to find decent clothes in the thrift stores to actually use them. Now with that said you are doing the reselling the right way. You are going in and being very selective, and not taking everything. Like i said i have positive things to say about it as well as negatives because there are groups of people that will just take everything and leave nothing for others to buy because they need to save money for bills.

I am extremely selective, because what I buy I also use as patterns to build clothes from our clothes that get torn up that can no longer be mended. And I buy the supplies from the thrift store to sew with as well (sewing supplies, fabrics as well as fabrics from buying unmatched sheet sets) and i never take more than my fair share
