I don't like those sweet messages on FB that end by saying "if you love Jesus you'll share this" or "if your not ashamed". I find those offensive even if I like the saying or message.
I agree, sometimes I share them because what they say besides that is true and beautiful. I never share them with the intent of expecting people to share them and if they don't judge them as not loving, or being ashamed of Jesus. However, in the future I think I'll take a screenshot and crop that part out.
It’s manipulative to write “ if you love Jesus you will share this.” It’s disrespectful, too, in that it doesn’t respect the many excellent reasons someone has for not sharing.
When on Facebook someone has lost a family member and everyone puts these 🙏🏻 and says I’ll pray for you, I instead will write out my prayer for them to read. I enjoyed your video today.
I love writing out prayers for people. Sometimes, it just isn't appropriate to share with everyone on FB how I am praying, but in general, I agree with you.
@@darrylgibson3575 Interesting thought on Matt 6:6. They could be looking at it that way and obeying the Lord from the heart. I had always thought that verse was about not showing off that you are praying which goes to motive of why you are praying and looking for reward from people. We do see corporate prayer throughout the whole Bible and that is praying outside of a closet and we don't see it condemned. We see Jesus condemning the religious leaders of the day for liking to be seen and heard when they pray as well as the one one who thanks the Lord that he isn't a sinner. I'm sure that I have more to learn. Thanks.
@@bobjose5855 are you sure that it's corporate prayers or are those the blessings and praising that they're doing openly, I do know this much that every time JESUS prayed HE went off to be alone with our FATHER and spoke to HIM in secret.
Another is "God never gives you more than you can bear". I'll tell you truthfully I have been totally broken many times. Once was just recently when someone I grew up with, my very best friend and family member, died suddenly. I was shattered. I have days I feel I will collapse from the grief. I'm not bearing it because there is one set of footprints in the sand. I'm being carried right now.
@@flightforensics4523 It is Biblical, but not in those some exact words. 1 Corinthians 10:13 "...he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear...". Please go read the verse in context for better understanding. Never accept isolated verses without reading them in context.
Our premature baby boy only lived 32 hours and people told us he was to good for this world. Thinking back now, My question is, how bad is my other son cause he is now 19 years old? We really have to be careful with our choice of words
Perhaps modify “I’ll pray for you” to “can we pray together right now?” And the saying, “let me know if I can ever help you”…how about, what day this week can I bring you dinner? can I watch your children during your next doctor apptmt? I would love to drive you to your next apptmt…I’m headed to the grocery this afternoon, please text me a list of things I can get for you, and I will drop them by your home…turn that vague “let me know if I can ever help” to actual, practical ways to help.
YES! So many people even family members could care less about you and show it by not helping or keeping in touch with you. I had gotten very sick years ago and recieved nothing from the people ( my family) that loved me, that I dedicated my time to for so many years , was not there for me at all. So I recovered from my illness and all that I had wished my friends and family would of helped me with as you stated, I now do for those people in my life.
I have made it a practice to pray when they ask, In person or on the phone, if at all possible. Then they know I prayed for them. Not only that, but it helps keep it in your mind to do it later. Works for me, I'm almost 79. That's saying something. Love your insights. I am unable to sit in church. I get a lot of feeding on the internet, and it still gives me a chance to witness, for which I am grateful.
I must admit I'm not a very vocal Christian, so I don't feel compelled to say I will pray for someone if I don't mean it (there's no expectation I'll say this). Thus when I say it, I sincerely mean it, I do it, and indeed people are often surprised when I say this.
Yes -- THAT one! Why do we need to "name drop"? Just say you feel or think a certain way about something or someone, but don't invoke God's credit score to validate your inkling. Maybe the Holy Spirit DID tell you something, maybe God HAS been informing you of something, maybe it WAS Jesus in a dream you had...can't we just share our concerns, offer correction or encouragement, or share a scripture (in context, please), and be satisfied that God has not advertised for a PR firm to handle His campaign? "A Word spoken in season" (Proverbs 15:23) describes the joy experienced having delivered a Word at just the right time, moment, circumstance, event...I am SO guilty of having tossed around, "God told me,..." when I was a new Christian. Fortunately, no one was harmed, thanks to God's grace over all parties concerned.
When people say "The Lord told me..." turn and walk away from them. They are kooks wrapped up in their own minds. I hear these fake TV preachers make these kinds of claims. They are all from the dark side.....
Thank you so much for including “everything happens for a reason.” That is so untrue. God gave us free will. So if someone murders your loved one (this happened to me), God had nothing to do with it. That person chose to do evil. I believe God was watching and weeping for that event. But like a parent, He let us go out into the world with our own will. What we choose to do with it sets in motion good and bad events. So I never blamed God or was angry with God when my niece was so brutally murdered. I knew exactly who to blame. The people who did it, and the evil one who influenced them because they turned away from God. Free will is a wonderful gift. We shouldn’t blame God for what happens because of it.
Yes. Preach. A lot don't understand this concept and as a result leads to people blaming God for letting bad things happen especially the fact He is all powerful and all knowing. I feel like God can only do so much according to our faith. If we pray or weep to God and we don't keep His commands or follow Jesus's example, it would make sense for Him to not do anything.
You speak well. My daughter was taken, missing for 7 weeks, and then her body found discarded in a creek on Christmas Eve 2019 by hunters. The people who said this or wrote this sentiment, however well-meaning, had no idea the grief and anger it caused me and our family. My heart truly goes out to you because I know this kind of obscene pain. I am finding it doesn’t lessen over time as so many assured me it would; I simply have learned how to carry the weight by experience and God’s magnificent grace. God bless you.
@Tracy Karol have you ever read thru the book of Job.......?... I am sorry for the loss of your neice......And I cannot give you an answer as to why God allowed such tragedy to happen... but we must remember God DOES have a reason for allowing things to happen... and in this sense... Everything DOES.. happen for a reason... God ONLY knows.. the reason behind all the events... though God did NOT allow Satan to Kill Job.. in Job's case... this does Not mean that God with holds Satan's hand in every person's situation... It is Not for us to know.. why God allows these tragedies to happen was it right of God to allow Cain to slay Abel?... Could God have prevented it?.. YES.. why did God allow an innocent man who loved God and was Loved by God to be slain?.. I refuse to believe that God did Not have a reason for it.... MY God does Not work that way... haphazardly.. like a roll of the dice.. or a ball going around on a roulette wheel.. people can be upset with God.. for what they feel is an injustice done to someone in the case of murder.... and some people even Hate God for injustices done... I ve seen couple leave the Church and QUIT God.. when they lost their infant child.. it is a harsh reality... many can hate God for what they feel is not right.. but here is a fact God created us ... so thereby God OWNS us... God can do what He wills with us.. And we should Not be upset with God... Why.?. because we are only here because God allowed us to be here.. Why are so many angry with God.?. or do Not believe everything happens for a reason..?.. because they do NOT know the same God I know...
I agree with your comments on the 5 things Christians shouldn't say. Our responses to a situation should be heartfelt and sincere, that's what Jesus teaches us to do.
Something that really bothers me is when someone expresses a need during a difficult time and they’re told simply that they would pray for them. Prayer is awesome but it’s often times a cop out or a reason not to help that person and they walk away thinking they’ve done a wonderful thing and pat themselves on the back. It’s hard for someone who has lost their job and doesn’t know how they will feed their family or keep the lights on to hear those words. We’re supposed to be the hands and feet of Christ! Surely a gift of some groceries or gas money would be better appreciated than a sometimes promise of prayer. We need to help each other. Feed the hungry, help the poor, take care of orphans and widows! Surely a hot meal dropped off at their home along with sincere prayer would be more helpful. Sorry for the rant. It’s something I feel strongly about. Hey, I’m guilty of this too. It’s something I want to change for myself.
@Ray Sperle I'm new to this commenting stuff.. so pardon me for responding to your reply agree ing with Brandon Robbins... regarding 5 things a Christian should never say....I totally disagree with both of you....I think its ok to say things like" the bible says it so I believe it" and the rest.... BUT.. what needs to be done then is a 2 hour follow up talk session with the person we said that to ...explaining our position.. the error in saying those things is when people like maybe You or Brandon .. say these statements then just shut-up... that CAN NEVER BE... People need to make a stance and be forcefully adamant about it... say it then PREACH it!.. the others will be convinced it IS true.. or will never come to you again asking ridiculous questions like whether or not you believe what the bible says or not.. they will KNOW for sure what you believe...
This is so good Brandon! I'm rewatching some of your videos today as I'm without a parish right now due to all the political polarization and me supposedly not being a "real" Christian if I don't go agree with their views Yet I still earnestly desire to pray and be with other brothers and sisters. Thanks for offering such godly counsel this stubborn would be grandma can trust! I too am convicted of the sin of promising to pray for others and then not. Realizing that I do this a lot but have not yet made the shift today I make a new commitment: to stop what I am doing and pray immediately for someone when I say I will. So that first person is you! So here goes: Thank you Father for gentle, faithful men of God like Brandon whose love for you and for others shines through like a beacon into my weary soul! Thank you SO MUCH for making Brandon and for creating a way for him to get these vital messages out to us Christians who do not feel welcome at in person services. Help ALL of us who know and love you find a way to share the Gospel with this sick and broken world! Help me do this too Lord! Lord, please also strengthen Brandon personally and give him the material and emotional support he surely needs to continue this great work. May he strongly feel your presence with him today. I ask for this in Jesus's precious name AMEN.
Sue. I understand you're frustration. I'm in Africa and almost all the praying I see in church is for personal success in business or for wealth. Also government politics often enters the church. I've tried but I feel so distant from this because I believe we should be principally serving God. In some ways my faith has grown but I feel distant from any Christian community.
A while back I was convicted not to say, I’ll pray for you, if I wasn’t prepared to pray right then. I have since made it a habit to just offer a prayer or ask permission to pray for someone right when I see the need. I cringe when I hear of a person who has died being referred to as an Angel or that they just gained their wings. We never were and never will be angels. Your other points are spot on!
Yes!! Thank you for saying it. The one I would add is the “god told me to” about something like breaking up with someone. Better just to own your free choice and not use God as an excuse. It only makes the other person not trust you and dislike God.
Breaking up with someone isn't a "little thing" especially for people truly put GOD as head of their life and seek HIM on all things. Because marriage is actually a big deal, asking GOD for guidance in dating practices is essential. Too many people chose their free will over GOD's purpose when it comes to dating and end up in relationships and marriages that GOD has joined together.
@@ajourneywithmyfather1980 Just an f.y.i. I don't see anywhere in Johanna Pops reply where they were refering to married people... just wonderin.. if you noticed that..?..
@Dan Beech Marriage is a commitment.. this is how I see it... many would disagree... but I have never been one to just "be in a relationship".. for an indefinite period.... I have had dozens of relationships... in the last 50 years of my life... but most of those 50 years I was not saved... so I did not even think about what non marital relationships meant in regards to God..and when I found a woman that was special to me I DID marry her.. and we reaised a family and all went to church...I never looked at a "relationship"... with someone outside of the marriage bond the same way that I looked at a relationship inside the marriage bond.. if a person thinks enough of their partner or the relationship they have to someone ..to NOT consider the relationship or possible break up of a relationship..as NOT a little thing.......what are they doing NOT getting married...?. .if people oppose marriage... I cannot take their relationship serious enough to consider it a BIG thing.... Marry then.. show the world how the other person is Not a little thing... staying with someone and Not marrying them is like reading the bible and never getting saved... marriage----salvation... hmmmm I think after a certain period of time.. a person knows if this is their forever person.. if they are.. then... propose..! even if the 2 are penniless and have to be married in a shack...... none of my weddings ever cost me much money.... 2 wives died and the one I am married to now I have been with since 2015.. we were married.. about 12 months after we met.. Oh.. and definitely no children out of wedlock......marry the person...
I dislike people saying that your loved ones are looking down on heaven or to talk to your deceased loved ones they're looking down on you. The Bible states that it's only God Alone who can hear our prayers. The Bible also states that our loved ones , and ourselves included, don't enter Heaven until the last day. I completely agree with so much of what you said especially the fact that we don't become Angels. Angels were created at the beginning of time. I love your videos and I share them with so many people
@@DruidsCalling The dead are in the grave awaiting the resurrection. Read Thessalonians. The dead in Christ rise first at His return, and then those who remain go to meet Him in the air. Nobody goes to heaven ever. People are created to dwell on earth and that’s where they stay. Even at His return he sets up a 1000 year reign on earth. At the end of Revelation there’s a new heaven and new earth. The new Jerusalem coming down with the pearly gates and streets of gold is on earth. It literally says it’s on earth. Go back and read it. Ecclesiastes 9:5-6 5 For the living know that they will die, but the dead know nothing, and they have no more reward, for the memory of them is forgotten. 6 Their love and their hate and their envy have already perished, and forever they have no more share in all that is done under the sun.
@@fivebooks8498 I respectfully disagree. On the cross, Jesus told one of the thieves “Today I will see you in heaven.” There’s also the rich man and Lazarus, who were on opposite sides of Hades (Lazarus at “Abrahams bosom”, the rich man in torment and unable to cross). In the OT we see the spirit of Samuel summoned by Saul. From these and other verses, it seems clear that believers’ souls will go to heaven/paradise and be with Jesus. But we won’t have our glorified bodies until the resurrection. I’m not sure if unbelievers are now in torment or are sleeping until Judgment, but even Revelation indicates martyrs’ souls in heaven crying out for justice and God assuring them, saying they must wait just a while longer until the rest join them. “Fell asleep” in the Bible is used usually the same way we say “passed away” or any other euphemism for death. Of course I could be completely mistaken! But either way, there will be no more suffering for dead believers. Perfect peace, what a glorious wonder awaits! Have a blessed day!

@@endthisnonsense7202 that statement sounds like you don't believe that "theoretically" prayer can help you. I am truly sorry that you don't believe in the power of prayer and hope that God works on your heart and mind to believe in the power of prayer.
@@AvsFanEddie It's not about what I belief, it's not about what you belief or anyone else for that matter. Every day life proofs there is no "power of prayer" every single day. How else would it be possible for instance that every mass shooting event is followed by a mass "thoughts and prayers" outbreak, that every single time is answered by "god" with the next mass shooting? Or do you claim all these people sharing 'thoughts and prayers" actually pray for the next mass shooting and "god" rewards them?
So much for "Where two or more are gathered together in My name, there will I be also". Guess you can tear that one out of your Bible, I won't because I've seen it fullfilled through His healing.
Recently I asked a Christian brother to pray for me and told him what it was about. He said 'Sure', and stopped right there, with people walking past, and prayed for me right then, and followed it up with a strong, warm hug that I hadn't realized I needed. He is a man of words (he is a teacher and an elder), but even more so he is a man of action.
When my life was going thru a painful time full of anguish and people would tell me "God won't give you any more than you can handle." This would make me feel that I was lacking in some way. I found no solice in those words. It is true that I was lacking in my understanding, I was being broken down so that I could finaly see that I had no control of the things that happened and that trusting in Gods will was the only reasonable option.
I know, telling me I'm fixed because I believe in Jesus and Paul wrote in 1 Cor. and gave a list of lifestyle sins and ended it with "And such WERE some of you, but you are washed and cleansed." Remember how messed up the Corinthian church was? Why did Paul write that knowing they were drinking and sinning all the time. Well then why do I still want to drink or whatever my issues were? I'm not fixed, I'm in Christ and have been saved, but becoming a Christian didn't make my obsessive compulsive personality go away, nor my PTSD. I will struggle with it for the rest of my life and though I'm better I still have to struggle.
When I lost my beloved husband to cancer, many well-meaning people would say to me that “he is in a better place, now”, I disagreed with them, in my mind, for his “better place” for David to be was with me, but I understood that it is very awkward to say one’s felling when death is involved. In such case, I believe that it is more natural and comforting to hear “I do not know what to say, in such painful moment for you”.
Very sorry for your loss. I'm guilty for saying that also but, at least for me, what I'm trying to say is that after all the suffering they just endured, there is no more pain, only happiness. It is only us that are suffering the loss of them. I'm sure it was just as difficult on you to watch him go through all his suffering before he passed. Sometimes we just don't always word things the right way, but mean well, just the same. Peace to you and may God be with you in your time of need.
God be with you. There really is no right thing to say in a moment like that, when you are bereaved. It never helped me when I lost my father. His death was sudden to everyone else, but I expected it. I knew he was getting sick. I'd told my mom a week before he passed, and she assured me he was fine. Everyone gave me the better place line, but I knew, even if he were ready to go, he didn't want to go when he did. He'd just come to my graduation, he'd cleaned out his car, quit smoking even. Everything seemed ripe for a new lease on life to everyone else. I knew something had to have scared him. He wanted to spend a few days with me before he died, but stupid me had agreed to go to Tennessee for a week with my friends beforehand. I'd rather people just told me they had no idea how to talk about what had just happened
@@ItsJustAdrean Thank you so much for your condolences. May God be with you, also. As a parent, I can say that your father was happy to spend some time together with you. Do not blame yourself for believing you could have spent more time with him. I am sure he parted happy with his time allotment on your company. And, yes, I do believe that there is nothing one can say in a situation so delicate as when someone we love departs from this world. In my case, my beloved departed in his own terms and we were blessed that God was with us all through his last breath. I was holding his hand at that time, assuring him he would be going to Christ and that the cancer that ravished his body would not accompany him. I miss David terribly but also I am happy that he is not suffering anymore. As for your dad, I feel very sorry that he passed. I pray that the good memories he left behind will be of some consolation to your immense loss. I pray for all your family and for the ones who cherish him. 💔

@@therealgingerbeardman I am very sorry for your great loss. I know it is very hard to cope with this pain but I pray that you and your family are finding some consolation in the memories of your lives lived together and with the precious moments you mutually shared.
I remember a couple at church who said, "God led us"...to take a better paying job for the husband in another state. No, the money led you. And when they returned a few months later, it was "God led us back here", with no mention of the lost job. No mention of returning to the previous job. It should have been more like, "God showed us mercy in giving me back the old job." God didn't send you on a wild goose chase. You did that out of your own greed.
Pretending that there are no metaphors, symbols or parables in the Bible; or worse, proclaiming that everything is literal UNLESS you don't want to do it, means that it looks like the Bible is serving your interests.
Yessss....this is the only other time I've heard this other than when I heard something similar the 1st time from this teacher named chuck missler and it changed how I chew on the word. Such a perfect statement and definatly needed for the times we are in.
@@ptowntravis That's who I got the statement from :) He was the quintessential teacher that sparked that special interest in me to "take the text seriously"!

I do something very similar. Except I say I have added you to my prayer groups prayer list. I am so thankful that I do have a group of people who actively get together once a week to pray for all of our listed petitions
How about "God's not done with you." This terrifies me as I have had the most awful last 3 yrs of constant loss/catastrophe/illness...what more does he plan to do me? I just want to hide. I am completely broken, battered and bruised.
Totally agree with you, Brandon. I also do not like the phrase " have you accepted Christ as your personal savior? I think it makes people feel judged. Your relationship with Jesus is not, I believe, to be judged by anyone.
I agree, when my daughter passed on 20 years ago people often said " the Lord picks the nicest rose", and when you've just lost you child that is the last thing you want to hear. Thank the Lord that He gave me peace in my heart to accept it. If someone messages me and asks me to pray for them or a friend then I'll type a message then and there otherwise yes,the day gets busy and I do forget to pray later. I totally agree with you.
Everything happens for a reason is one of the things that Christians need to stop saying. That got so tiresome when my mother died. I also agree with not saying I pray for you unless you mean it. Thank you for this video and the reminder.
Brandon I have to admit when I first stumbled on your videos I thought - ok here comes some more fundamentalist literalism - but man was I wrong! You talks are thoughtful, nuanced , and to me so on target ! I really love your wisdom and heart my friend .
I am in TOTAL agreement with you about the "I'll pray for you", and they don't. I am trying really hard to do what I say or not say it all and this to me is HUGE!
This is really spot on! Of course we can all think of a few more things we should stop saying. I really love your honest viewpoints, because they are all based on scripture.
@@prestonmiller5827 Kudos to you! There is an old Scottish translation of the bible, that said in their language "Jacob was a lucky fellow" But really..... everything is ordained and preordained. (I cringe at saying that when someone is going through really hard times)
My son has schizophrenia. I have prayed over and over for him to be healed. God is bigger than schizophrenia. He is all knowing and all powerful. He has not chosen to heal him yet. So I dont really see the difference between saying "everything happens for a reason " and that He works all things for good. ..I trust God and that is all. I dont think He wants my son in this condition anymore than I do. So isn't God choosing to leave him where he is for a reason? It is a faith builder for me. Praise His Holy Name!!!
When I tell people I'm gonna pray for them I set alarms for usually around 10pm with their names and a few words to remind me of their issues. Definitely helped me to stay true to my words and remember to pray for others not just myself. Give it a try!
Great video! As a counter argument for “stop saying everything has a reason”, the buck stops at God’s feet. The ultimate authority belongs to him, what he allows or doesn’t, etc. thats why Jesus said to Pilate “you would have no authority over me unless it was given from…”what? “…from up above.” That is what makes God Omni-potent, Omniscient, etc. its part of the “wrestling” as you said before with life. Now God is not the author of Evil but allows it for his purposes. For God “only gives us what we can handle”
A few years back, I decided I was not going to tell someone I was praying for them until I had actually prayed for them. I would say the prayer before saying that, or at the very least right after. Otherwise, just like you said, I would forget, and the good intentions would mean nothing.
One of our church leaders taught us how to take care of that, so that we don’t falsely promise to pray for them. He said as he goes through the day and he he finds someone who needs prayers given he places them on the prayer roll of his heart. He knows he won’t remember the names by the end of the day so right there and then he says the name. That way it’s writing it on his heart and so that God can hear the names and know that he prays for them. I love this concept because it gets rid of the guilt I feel at not remembering a name. Quite often I’ll remember the situation of what needs to be prayed for and that really helps.
did u know that our tongues are more dangerous than guns, etc. etc. ? Amen also for Brandon Robbins' sayings about what Christians need to say or not to say. God bless u all!
Some Christians have to stop saying " I am saved". Nobody is "saved" while they are still living Salvation is a life long battle. To say "i am saved" is comitting a sin of presumption against Hope.
We who are born again are “Saved”. As Paul wrote to the Ephesians in Ephesians 2:8-9 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.
8:19 Wrong statement. I know a young man who was an atheist. His mother died and everyone was saying "Sorry for your loss". Except one person who said, without missing a step, "I will pray for you and your family". This small kindness started this young atheist on a journey toward God and the Church.
When we say "I'll pray for you", it would be best to do it right then and there so you don't forget. Otherwise, we would be held accountable for what we say, and it is sobering to realize that though we mean well, it costs us our integrity too!
I don’t tell people I will pray for them. If they ask me to pray for them then I immediately bow my head and do so right then right there. It takes them a back at first. The people in the store may look on like I’m weird but I don’t care. People learn not to ask unless they are serious about wanting it done and we will go to our Father together. Often once done they will thank you because they were a part and got to hear your genuine love. Also it helps to cement in my mind that later, when I pray alone, my Dad will remind me to pray over their situation again.
I think your teachings are so well thought out and meaningful! Thank you! I do agree with you in the 5 things Christians should not say! Another is something I’ve had said to me regarding my autistic son, and I have had it said to me that if my faith was strong enough that he could be healed. That’s hurtful. I believe that God is using, and has used ever since our Benjamin was born, his life, his special needs as a way to show how God is using our Ben in ways to show God’s faithfulness♥️
I agree with you, Ann. That is so hurtful! I too have seen God use the lives of those with special needs to bless others and demonstrate faith. I often admired how my friends with special needs could worship God so freely. It was beautiful!
Hello Ann. My first thought when I read your reply about a comment made to you was beside it being hurtful, it was also theologically incorrect. Paul prayed for his "thorn in the flesh" to be removed three times. God didnt answer with "you need more faith". He said that in Paul's weakness God's grace and power would show. We aren't promised no struggles but that He would comfort us and give us His strength to endure. God bless.
God uses people with autism for his purpose too! One of the most powerful prayer warriors I ever met had Down’s syndrome. In fact, God enjoys using broken neurotypicals too. It shows that it’s Him and not us. There’s another problem with the “just have faith” mantra. It takes away God’s sovereignty to decide to heal someone (or not).
I also have an autistic son, and have been told the same thing. I've even been told he's the result of sin! He's a challenge, but he's a gift of God, like any child, and his special challenges have helped me grow in my understanding of God as a parent who loves and cares for us regardless of our inadequacies. Hang in there, and don't believe the lies.
Merci - Hvala Brandon! So agréable to see and hear U Also phrases: “Help Yrself and God will help U” What to say to someone who lost a beloved person and we don’t think the death person will go to heaven- the one left on earth believes they’ll meet again. Etc
Thank you, thank you ,Thank you!!! I've stopped going to "church". God is my savior, and I continue to study and believe, I just can't handle being put in a box, with black and white thinking. Long story...... Thank you❤️ you give me hope.
Another one: "God never gives us more than we can handle". That implies that my trials are something that I can manage alone. It's a misinterpretation of the verses that say God never TESTS us beyond our ability to bear. I'm not sure trials and tests are the same thing, but I have also been told that according to the original (Greek?) What it says is "you ( singular) will not be tested beyond your (plural, as in y'all's) ability to bear. Some things too much for us to bear alone and we need the love and support of others to make it.
I learned that my presence can say way more than my words ever could when I visit family members or friends that have lost a loved one. Show up let your light shine and be pleasing to God the Father go serve that person or family in silence.
Yes, one thing that we need to stop saying that becomes very negative: I hate that food. I hate that show. I have it when people do that. I hate it when people cut me off, I hate it when someone doesn't say thanks, I hate it when someone lies to you. I mean how many times a day? Who are we giving glory to, not God? When we curb that habit it makes a huge difference in our lives and our empathy grows. Thanks, brother Brandon.
Yes, had to really keep on my kids on that one, don't say you hate, hate, hate....you don't like this or that, this or that irritates you, arrrrrgh that makes me cringe, anything is better than hate, don't be a hater!
Fantastic, thank you for putting this out. I had struggled to find sensible, honest and humble interpretations. You are a light within the sea of bad theology.
Mr Brandon, I've seen this passage translated with the word "sabbath": I like this translation better: “Which is lawful on the Sabbath: to do good or to do evil; to save life or to destroy it?” Thus Jesus, the Teacher, made clear to all that the law is made for man, not man for the law. It seems complicated for even the Christian leaders. Being faithful is a persons personal belief in the expression. Of course the words are more than guidlines, we all should meditate on them. Prayers for you and your ministry.
Excellent. We need to be more empathetic to anyone who has suffered loss. To say everything happens for a reason may be true but it is not what people want to hear when they're suffering. I think a better response might be, "I don't know why you are having to suffer this, but I'm hear to listen and to share your sorrow. God wants to offer you comfort for your pain."
As for the "everything happens for a reason" ...it has become mainstream even in the secular world.... and my reply is, "it doesn't mean that everything happens for the right reasons"...or, "sometimes things happen for the wrong reasons".... and it serves as a great entry point to discuss the matter further, and ask the person, "what could have been done to improve the outcome", or "what reasons would justify the outcome",....for starters. Other questions can be formed.
Brandon I’ve watched a good bit of your videos and I just wanna say keep it up man these videos are great and if I’m being honest you have called a lot of my behaviors as a Christian in check and it is giving me a lot more clarity on my walk with Christ love the videos god bless and amen
Literally nothing happens without the will of God. Nowhere in the Bible does Christ promise us happiness on earth... In fact, we are promised persecution and pain, but to hold to the faith, because our reward is in the next life, in our resurrected bodies.
Exactly : when I say I will pray for someone I do... If we say we will pray for someone online... Do it there and then... Just yesterday a friend lost someone. .. They put up a post on FB and I responded with 'Praying' as I prayed.....
When you say “I’ll pray for you “ then, at that very moment, you ask God to help you remember to pray for that person. You also, if you can’t pray with them then, in your heart, that very moment say, “God, please be with these people”, for comfort or peace or whatever the situation calls for, something quick and simple, that makes it not a lie.
1. "I can do Sabbath any day of the week." No, no you can't. It's commanded the 7th day, and that has prophetic significance. 2. "I do the Sabbath every day of the week." Then you're gonna starve--no work on the Sabbath. The Sabbath is way more than going to church. 3. "Christians aren't under the law." See Acts 15:20-21 for the resolution of the Galatian question. The kicker is that Paul was there. 4. "The 'law' was too hard to do." Matthew 7:9. God set before the people life by the commandments or death by not--and you're saying He also made it too hard??? (Deut 30:15-17) 5. "We love Christmas and Easter." These are mixtures with paganism. They are not commanded celebrations. So, no. (And that doesn't even discuss the non-truth of a December birth OR the math of Friday evening to Sunday dawn being three days and three nights.)
Jenna-1. God worked for 6 days and then rested. Making the Sabbath on Sunday flips it on its head. God gives us a day of rest, then, with that rest we go out and do His work. 2. Correct 3. Correct, though that was given only to the Gentile believers. 4. Matthew 15:10-too hard 5. Christians turned he pagan holidays on their head and made their own worship of Jesus in response to them. Christmas was set during the time of the pagan holiday of the Festival of Lights to honor and worship the sun to ask it to come back again. It was set near the winter solstice to celebrate that Jesus was the light (singular) of the world during the darkest time of the year, since we do not know what day he was born. The name Christmas came from the Catholic Church’s Mass of Christ or Christ’s Mass because a conjunction known as Christmas. Easter is when we celebrate the resurrection of Christ but the pagans worshiped the Fertility gods and that is what the bunny represents because of its rapid reproduction. May Day was also the worship of other gods and came to be from dancing around the May Day pole which was part of that celebration. Santa Claus came from St. Nicholas who was a cardinal of the Catholic Church who wore red because that was what the cardinal robes were…cardinal red. They heard confessions so they knew who had been naughty and nice. He had no children of his own because he was a priest. He whittled toys from wood for kids and those who had been naughty still got coal to help warm their house, which is boring-kinda like getting underwear for Christmas. Also, it was a reminder of the fires of hell, which they would not want to go. All these traditions have roots to them. Christians had taken over pagan holidays and redirected them to Christ. Now a days people are taking Christian holidays and turning them back into pagan ones. Simply the war of the spirits.
I agree with the OP that responded to you. Any day that you acknowledge Christ is a day that you _remove_ from historical paganism, plus the fact that every day belongs to God anyway. Is there a day you _don't_ acknowledge Christ?
I'm only going to comment on #5 regarding the timeline of the resurrection. The Bible doesn't say Jesus spent 3 full nights in the tomb. It says He rose on the third day. His body went in Friday (day 1) before sunset, because they were preparing for Passover. His body was in the tomb on Saturday (day 2) and He rose on Sunday (day 3). I specify "His Body" because His Spirit was "in the heart of the earth," conquering death, hell and the grave.
4. The law was to hard to do. It wasn't just to hard to do, it was impossible. Not one person throughout all time besides Jesus Christ was able to keep the law. The law showed us our need for a Saviour, who is Jesus christ.

Thank yoooou! I had these questions in my head and right when i watch this. It just gives me a sign that the holy father answered my questions. and that makes me happy! Praise the lord! And of course, i agree with you, keep up the great work brother 👍💖
But Resurrection was revealed "the first day after Shabbat". That's why we called it "dies dominica" = the Lord's day. And Christians celebrate Resurrection, not Shabbat.
@@Laurelin70 Changes nothing. Did Christ say the Sabbath would change. No. Did the Apostles still observe the Sabbath. Yes. God sanctified his day and not one scripture says it changed. Not one. God was clear. Keep the Sabbath holy and stop following the traditions of man. Who do you love more. YaH or man. Christ showed us he was the Lord of the Sabbath because he is Lord and our Lord gave us a day that our benefit. Hence why Sabbath was made for mankind.
Thank you SOOOO much for #3. It reflects a doctrine of predetermination that is not substantiated in scripture. I always think of Ecclesiastes 9:11: “time and chance happeneth to them all…” (KJV). Without that single phrase, I could not accept God in any sense, let alone Christianity.
I’m on board with all except the everything happens for a reason, God doesn’t cause the pain but it happens when we aren’t holding up our end and he uses it to teach us.
I began watching you with The Chosen talks. I really learned so much today. My husband was bedridden for 7 years before he passed. I loved repeating Jerimiah; it gave me peace BUT now the "you" wasn't me. And with the UMC split, I found peace in that also. So if the words give us peace, is it harm to think the words were for us. I am new in the Bible at age 80, sorry to say that. But I am really trying to catch up.
We attended a church for a while where, if a member was asked to do something for the church, they would respond "I'll pray about it." Through experience I learned it was their way of declining your request.
I once asked someone to allow our children (siblings) to spend Christmas morning together and she said she would pray about it. I told her person that God would like for families to be close and that coming for Christmas wasn't something she had to pray about. She was trying to be difficult because of the dad. Bottom line is that there are times, unfortunately, that people try to use God as an excuse.
"All things" include good things, not just bad things. The statement is always used for encouraging those who are going through bad things. It becomes to mean, in the emotions, that only bad things work together for good. It causes people to gravitate towards bad things, since they work together for good. We should gravitate to good things, not gravitate towards misery. All things work together towards good, even good things!
If "everything happens for a reason" is not true, then we end up with questions about how powerful God really is and the words "you intended it for evil, but God intended it for good" are impossible. I will agree those words are often used in a useless way. I fear God not because He obeys the Law, but because the Law obeys Him.
"it doesn't apply anymore," is the deepest rot of the modern church. God is the begining and the end, is was and is and ever shall be. He is unchanging and so are his laws and principles. So, Christians need to stop saying that something in scripture doesn't apply anymore, as if the world, humanity and sin have somehow changed - they haven't.
Tanks you for sharing this message! I am sharing this with my friends on Facebook & I will also share about this topic on my live streaming RUclips channel here on RUclips very soon!
Everything does happen for a reason: Isaiah 45:7 says, I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the LORD do all these things. And Ephesians 1:11 says, In Him we were also chosen as God’s own, having been predestined according to the plan of Him who works out everything by the counsel of His will. Also remember the conversation God and Job had after all that had happened to him. Tribulations are designed to get us closer to God.
I always pray if I say I will because I see it as a requirement, I’ve promised to do it so I do. I hate that saying ‘Everything happens for a reason’ or ‘It’s not meant to happen’, all the terrible things that have happened in my life make me know that no these things were’t meant to happen, I didn’t deserve these events and they don’t make you a better person or anything, they just wreck your life. God doesn’t intend bad things for us so there’s no reason to think there’s a reason for it. You’re so right on these comments.
In South Africa they often use lines like "a woman's tears never falls in vain" it's a way of saying "God favors me" but they say it as a form of a curse that who ever made or caused them pain God will punish them. And Christians always say "God favors me" and at the same time they cause pain to others.
Someone already said this, but "OMG," ... and so many things close to it. Brothers and Sisters, we need to distinctly revere our God, the Lord Jesus Christ - ALL those last 4 capitalized words before the dash! I tell my students to never say His name(s) unless they are talking to Him or about Him.
Referring to the verse in Leviticus, In Mark 7:19 Jesus says all foods are clean to eat because it's not what goes into the body that defiles a person, but what comes out of a man defiles him. From what I understand, we're in a new covenant with Jesus, thus the NEW testament. Correct me if I'm wrong.
Saturday is the Sabbath. The 7th Day. Why can't people see that? It blows my mind. Sunday is the 1st Day. The RCC changed it! And I want to make it clear that I am NOT a 7th Day Adventist.
I don't like those sweet messages on FB that end by saying "if you love Jesus you'll share this" or "if your not ashamed". I find those offensive even if I like the saying or message.
Yah. I’m not a fan of those either.
I agree, sometimes I share them because what they say besides that is true and beautiful. I never share them with the intent of expecting people to share them and if they don't judge them as not loving, or being ashamed of Jesus. However, in the future I think I'll take a screenshot and crop that part out.
If you are offended by the name of Jesus you are not a Christian anyway. THINK.
It’s manipulative to write “ if you love Jesus you will share this.” It’s disrespectful, too, in that it doesn’t respect the many excellent reasons someone has for not sharing.
Its more likely share/like- farming
When on Facebook someone has lost a family member and everyone puts these 🙏🏻 and says I’ll pray for you, I instead will write out my prayer for them to read. I enjoyed your video today.
Yea. I hate that emoticon. I doubt very many people who post that really pray
I love writing out prayers for people. Sometimes, it just isn't appropriate to share with everyone on FB how I am praying, but in general, I agree with you.
maybe the people who put the 🙏 sign up understand what JESUS said in Matthew 6:6
God never gave you that. It’s just life.
Yes, need to offer REAL help, not “AIR” help. Lol
Yes!
The what the book of James teaches. Practical Christianity . Thank you for obedience to the word.
@Winnie, well said.

How about: "the spirit told me..." As a mechanism to enhance the personal credibility of a person's own thoughts...
I know of people who say their revelations are from God even when they contradict the bible…….WHAT!?!?!?
True.
@ karen thompson I agree to a point, but doesn't God live within all of us? What about his prophets? Are they kooks or from the dark side?
Nothing happens for a "reason".
It is Not for us to know.. why God allows these tragedies to happen
was it right of God to allow Cain to slay Abel?...
I ve seen couple leave the Church and QUIT God.. when they lost their infant child..
it is a harsh reality... many can hate God for what they feel is not right.. but here is a fact
God created us ... so thereby God OWNS us... God can do what He wills with us.. And we should Not be upset with God... Why.?. because we are only here because God allowed us to be here..
Why are so many angry with God.?. or do Not believe everything happens for a reason..?..
because they do NOT know the same God I know...
❤
I literally turned away from God as a child because someone said God needed my brother in Heaven.
Too many people chose their free will over GOD's purpose when it comes to dating and end up in relationships and marriages that GOD has joined together.

.if people oppose marriage... I cannot take their relationship serious enough to consider it a BIG thing.... Marry then.. show the world how the other person is Not a little thing... staying with someone and Not marrying them is like reading the bible and never getting saved... marriage----salvation... hmmmm

Oh.. and definitely no children out of wedlock......marry the person...
I dislike people saying that your loved ones are looking down on heaven or to talk to your deceased loved ones they're looking down on you. The Bible states that it's only God Alone who can hear our prayers. The Bible also states that our loved ones , and ourselves included, don't enter Heaven until the last day. The dead are in the grave awaiting the resurrection.
Ecclesiastes 9:5-6
5 For the living know that they will die, but the dead know nothing, and they have no more reward, for the memory of them is forgotten.

It makes me alarmed when someone says, " we now come into the presence of God," God is always present and with us.
So much for "Where two or more are gathered together in My name, there will I be also". Guess you can tear that one out of your Bible, I won't because I've seen it fullfilled through His healing.
God Ain’t with us
Recently I asked a Christian brother to pray for me and told him what it was about.
I believe the world dose give us more than we can handle, by ourselves . God /Jesus /the spirit is with me every day to give me strength.
I lost my mom to cancer a year ago, and honestly all the condolences went in one ear and out the other. Now when someone dies I tell the person mourning, “There are no words…”
Thanks!
You're welcome. And thank you so much for your donation!
There's a difference between taking the Bible literally and taking the Bible seriously.
Pretending that there are no metaphors, symbols or parables in the Bible; or worse, proclaiming that everything is literal UNLESS you don't want to do it, means that it looks like the Bible is serving your interests.
@@davidcheater4239 That's... Literally... What I said...

That’s why I say to believers or not “I prayed for you & added you to my prayer list”. That way, I didn’t lie to myself or other person bout doing later & more importantly there’s always half a smile or full given back to me that this guy won’t forget me!!💯
I like how you wrote, this guy won't forget me! Are you from Africa? or African American? I would be Swedish English American 😁
Your comment is 100% contrary to the words of Jesus, who asked, "Why do you call me Lord and ignore my commandments?"
@@PETERJOHN101 How so? I don't follow your reasoning. This has nothing at all to do with the commandments.
I agree Paula....maybe better put to talk about our personal relationship with our Master? I don't know, chrstianese is a difficult language to parse
Thank you for the better words to say.
The more I practice the better I get at these types of conversations.
I ask for Holy Spirit to help me.
I usually say I'm praying for you and then I'll pray for them right then either silently or out loud.
Right on - Christians need to take scripture seriously not necessarily literally.
So true, Brandon! Thanks for bringing them to our attention!
Thank you! These 'stop saying these 5 things' is so true. Hard times doesn't mean 'there's a reason'.
Look up The Butterfly Affect, then come back to reread your comment! Even the heathen have more faith than many Christians!
This is really spot on! Of course we can all think of a few more things we should stop saying. I really love your honest viewpoints, because they are all based on scripture.
"Good luck" is another one cuz "luck" doesn't exist
I pray for the person right on the spot, even if silently. Because if I forget, then I lie, right?
Thank you, Brandon for your well thought out comments and for letting scripture speak of God's promises.
👍🏻👍🏻intelligent approaches. Thank you for all your post. Rock on!
One that REALLY gets to me is "O My God" It is really so common, it is almost used as a swear phrase.
Even "O my gosh!" Is too close for comfort!
there is 2 sides to that coin i am sure but a honest exclamation happen ?
Even “OMG” because it means the same as “Oh my God”

Yes! and using Jesus Christ, our Lord's name and who He is, is just, NOOOOO!!!!
Amen. The power of life and death is in the tongue.
did u know that our tongues are more dangerous than guns, etc. etc.
As Paul wrote to the Ephesians in Ephesians 2:8-9
For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.

So agréable to see and hear U
Also phrases:
“Help Yrself and God will help U”
What to say to someone who lost a beloved person and we don’t think the death person will go to heaven- the one left on earth believes they’ll meet again. Etc
“God just needed another angel.”
I’ve said things along this line. Trying to make sense out of the sadness.
Thank you, thank you ,Thank you!!!
I've stopped going to "church". God is my savior, and I continue to study and believe, I just can't handle being put in a box, with black and white thinking. Long story...... Thank you❤️ you give me hope.
How about 'God never gives you more than you can handle'. I am thinking God gives ME MORE than I can handle so I can lean on Him in my weakness.
..brother don't be disheartened when one comes to you and never comes back to that place. You may have served God more than you know.
I agree with you ....words can be empty
This has opened my eyes. It hit me right in my chest. I need to do better... we have to do better.
One quote that irritates me is, "The Lord helps those who help themselves."....this is a license to steal things. It is nonsense and false.....
...and is found *nowhere* in Scripture.
@@surlyogre1476 what? Is it really..?😧
There is POWER in the WORD the LORD speaks through YOU, thank you Yahavah for giving Brandon theses messages.
Bless You Brandon.
Thank you, we're all guilty of all these sayings. I will be more conscious about them.
I pray for them in the moment. If I have time to read their post, I have time to pray for them.
I use to also say "I will pray for you" Now I either do it immediately after saying it or pray with them then and there wherever we are.
(Deut 30:15-17)
2. Correct
3. Correct, though that was given only to the Gentile believers.
4. Matthew 15:10-too hard

Okay, the Saturday rt.
I’m on board with all except the everything happens for a reason, God doesn’t cause the pain but it happens when we aren’t holding up our end and he uses it to teach us.
Great video, Brandon.
I have a problem with worship on Sunday instead of Saturday.
You are always helpful. Thank you
We attended a church for a while where, if a member was asked to do something for the church, they would respond "I'll pray about it." Through experience I learned it was their way of declining your request.
Thank you Mr Robbins
You are wrong.
