Visiting Lopinot & Las Lapas - Café Mariposa & Asha's Parlour

- Lopinot Village is located in the east of Trinidad, about 30 minute drive from the Eastern Main Road. Named after Charles Joseph Count de Loppinot, this village is well known as a primary school field trip destination where the main attractions are the Lopinot House which is located within the Lopinot Historical Complex and the Lopinot River.
Lopinot is rich in culture. Its longstanding heritage is still represented today by the people of Lopinot who keep rich traditions alive through parang music and food. Café Mariposa is a restaurant located in Lopinot that embodies and exemplifies those rich traditions. The restaurant is run by the Guerrero family and their approach to food is rooted in an old philosophy that creates inextricable ties between where the food is grown, the people that grow it and what eventually ends up on your plate. This approach makes Café Mariposa more than just a restaurant, it is an amazing gastronomical experience that truly reflects our rich and colorful history with every meal.
Asha's Parlour is located at the Las Lapas lookout point which is a "cool" 90 minute walk (hike 😅) away from the heart of Lopinot Village. The leadup to the trail which eventually brings you out on the Blanchisseuse/ Arima Old Road is a bit on the challenging side with a few inclines to get the heart pumping. The road eventually leads to a trail covered with lush greenery and a sprinkling of great views which serve as the perfect prelude to the absolutely breath-taking view at Asha's.
This "side of de road" snackette offers an eclectic choice of food items for hikers and commuters alike. Enjoy local favorites like fudge, tamarind balls, toolum, paime and cassava pone, or if you're lucky you might get to have a hot cup of cocoa tea for breakfast. The combination of the views, the food and the warm hospitality of the proprietors makes Asha's Parlour the perfect pit stop.
So join us as we experience a slice of culture in Lopinot, Trinidad.

This presentation of T&T was truly amazing and reinforces my belief that Trinbagogians do not appreciate the history and beauty of our homeland.
Those 3 sisters should be named as national treasures along with the inventiveness of their culinary skills.
Remember when Brother Valentino first sang "Trinidad is nice, Trinidad is a paradise." It's still so if folks work towards civility and reinvestment in love of country.
Well said!!
Chrisal brings life to anything and everywhere she goes.
I really enjoyed this production from beginning to end. Krystle was an excellent hostess- so personable and authentic.

Hi, truly enjoyed this video, a few years ago I saw a video of this couple (Asha & her husband) when they had their first child who was just a baby then, so I was so happy ☺ to see how they have kept their place and to see their family enlarged, God's blessing to them and thank you for taking the time to make these so that we can see & enjoy the beauty of our country. Crystal and crew blessing to you all.

That bit where he talked about the recent land development is worrying. Do we have enough land for anymore urban spread?
Another thing, then man maid mention of the fact that he is Kenyab
So how can I do this tour?
It's not a tour ...you can go to Cafe Mariposa any time 😁, they put on specific tours. Asha's in Las Lapas can be accessed via the Arima Old Road but we decided to hike it
