"Which character plays like Happy Chaos. None of em, in any fighting game. That guy is a weirdo man, but yeah pick Noel. I don't care. Next." That was hilarious got my sides hurting.
He's actually a weird Ragna/Hakumen hybrid. Ragna's install pre-overdrive era sapped his health in exchange for bigger damage and health absorption on drives. Nago has Hakumen esque specials, except overuse puts him into the Ragna-style install state automatically.
Hakumen is sort of the inverse of Nago. He hangs back and pokes until he builds up enough meter, and then just dumps mags into one combo and deletes your whole health bar. On the other hand Nago can be super aggressive right away, but if his initial rush doesn't kill you he needs to back off and start playing defensively.
7:20 Correct, Happy Chaos isn't a fighting game character. Happy Chaos is what we would call a "hitscan character"; he is similar to, for example, the Counter Terrorist from Counter Strike.
I think the closest character to happy chaos is izanami. Both have a stance where they can't block, but shoot ridiculously good projectiles simultaneous to normal actions, both can zone you indefinitely, just in different ways. For millia or Chipp, maybe another option is Jubei. Love the video concept
Imo Bullet would be a better fit for Gio players. Same step dash with a strike/throw mixup. Similarly also has a dash cancel off normals to mix strike throw (although its not nearly as strong as Gio c.s). She also has a multi hitting normal for easy hit confirms, an easy gameplan, and a relatively simple execution requirement with the only "wall" being double snap conversions. All that while doing HUGE damage when she has heat and resources.
Ever since I saw the explanation for how Happy Chaos works, he always struck me as a more balanced version of Izanami: the main gimmick and strength of both characters is a mode that trades the ability to block for the ability to attack the opponent independent of the character's direct attacking animations (gun shots vs. bit shots) and both chars use this mode to lock down opponents, confirm off stray hits, and convert/extend combos beyond what their normals and specials would otherwise allow. Naturally, things diverge when you look out at the characters' other mechanics, but the parallels in how gun shots and bits work always stood out to me.
I only play big body characters in FGs. But I picked Amane in blazblue. Because he's hot. E: lmao, the last recommendation was to pick Amane if you like Goldliewis in strive. I did exactly that.
He be feelin mega goofy about that Happy Chaos segment now that Elphelt is out. If you like Happy Chaos, give Izanami a try. They have the same gimmick of an additional stance that lets you fire lockdown projectiles but at the cost of being unable to block.
i legit think if you are coming from strive or dbfz you can play any character in bbcf. yes it takes time and effort but once you put in the work you will see results. my friend who only plays DBFZ is now playing nine and doing her crazy BS he only started playing for about 2 weeks
Should do an updated one with all the DLC characters that have been added. Special note as a Testament main, I really like Nine a lot. Big long range normals, setting up spells is super rewarding like setting up the crow for Testament. It'd be neat to see what other characters you might think might be somewhat analogous now that the roster has expanded as much as it has.
Fantastic idea for a video. Amane DOES sound like someone that I would enjoy as a Goldlewis player. I had briefly tried out a tiny bit of Kokonoe based off of Max's rate the super, and she seems pretty neat too, though that's a very different archetype. I need to try diving into this game properly.
I heartily recommend Amane as a GL player as well. Definitely try him out. I might be biased tho bc I also played some Axl b4 Mr. Lewis came out so he's a perfect fit for me.
@@gabevaldes1591 Same, I played Axl before Goldlewis. The way I like to describe it is that I like playing characters that feel like they're forcing you to make bad decisions, rather than being particularly attached to something like "zoning".
Amane comparison is spot on imo. This type of 1-to-1 comparisons work a little bit better if you give 2 identities to each character. If you like X about your main, then check out this one. But if you like Y, then check out this other one.
Interesting video. I started with BB and the came over to GG with Strive so it's interesting to contemplate the other way around. Though my mains in both games are pretty far apart from eachother. I've mained Azrael in BB since he first showed up (was a Bang main prior) but I main Axl in Strive. That tends to be the case for me across fighters though. I tend to gravitate toward a character for story or design reasons first and then I figure out the gameplay as I go or adapt the character to more fit my playstyle even if it isn't the "correct" way to play that character.
Great list. My alternative takes on them Nago-Hakumen (Hak has a super that allows him to use his moves continuously and chain some together like Nago. Giovanna-Bullet( very nice normals in the air and on the ground with a dash. bonus :attack grabs Axl-Hazama( good hazama players can get in with his chain and get right back to space control) Ram-Nine(Footsies are super good and can get a lot of damage while being outside of the range of others) Happy Chaos-Rachel or Litchi? (resource management that rewards fast and smart play?) Chipp-Bang(Bang can be super aggressive and can set up items that allow him to move very fast across the screen) Sol-Azrael(Monke) May-Azrael(Monke) Those are just alternatives.
Also, just an idea out there: I think something like "The anatomy of combos" or "The art of Defense" could work really well. They are topics wildy discussed, but I have yet to see someone to actually take the time to dissect and teach people the ins and outs of the very foundation of fighting games. Most people know about hitstun and blockstun and how to call-out fake moves and stuff, but I have yet to see someone try and teach that skill to others. I think something like that could be very useful, not to mention it would do well on youtube.
Chaos is just a downgraded izanami if you think about it. Both have access to projectiles at the cost of their block function. Only difference is that chaos is resource focused and izanami has a cooldown on her bits.
Nagoriyki players should also play hakumen, because of his big buttons, doesn't have a very good offense ( it's quite average) but he has a parry and plays very well defensively, a lot of his moves are just like haku's, fukyo is kishuu, guren is zameriyuki, and he also has a special meter like nago. He can stock these stars called magatamas that refill over time, and the more u get, the more powerful moves and offensive versatility u can get. He is very similar to nagoriyuki also because haku also dishes out a lot of damage, he's also very slow just like nago, I think he's the only character in the game who can't run, just has a short hop
Noel would also be a solid option for Gio players, also very rushdown heavy with an emphasis on getting in and not giving the opponent a turn Plus Noels movement seems a bit more similar, they both have long normals for a rushdown character, and mains of both eat a shitload of glue
Before I watch the video... Back years ago when I tried Blazblue calamity trigger.. there was only one choice.. Ragna the Bloodedge. I play Sol Badguy in GG ;) Now let's watch the video.
Really? I had given Bullet a few tries before since I love her design, but from my experience she's kinda hard to play with. Maybe I'm just trash but I think there is a huge difficulty spike from Gio to Bullet.
if you like Chaos, pick Valkenhayn. Has a stance where you can't block that needs to managed carefully. also some wacky execution for the lab monsters.
I enjoy the diversity of the Blazblue cast, because each character has something different to offer. Jiyuna, in your opinion, which of the Blazblue characters are the most unique of all? Like, you don't see their playstyle in any other games? I ask, because you say that there's no fighting game character out there like Happy Chaos. I'm guessing Rachel or Arakune?
Jiyuna is actually just too good. I play Millia, May, and Ram in strive. When I was trying out bbcf the other day I was interested in Izanami, Mai, and Es…

I know you already have a guide on ES on how to get the feel for the character, but would you mind doing something a bit more in-depth like a "What to do when..." I think most of us who are picking up the game could appreciate some of the optimization the game has undergone in the last years since it released. Most of the "in-depth" guides are very old, and I do not see the things being taught to be used in tournament play. So I would really appreciate something more "actual" but still within your style to keeping it simple enough. As always great content! Happy new year.
I think Tsubaki would be good for millia players who aren't up to izinami. She's alot of work for not alot of damage for Milia hit you have ever tool and it feels great doing it like Millia.
Those was very nice Also, new patch Giovanna will mostly do comboes while launching you in the air on the middle of it Makoto does that too Might be a weird thing to relate but hey
Just wached this video because I'm getting started in 2d anime games and DAMN... As I watched you show case each character, now I have no doubts that this is gonna be my main anime fighting game of all. Everyone is so CRAZY SICK!!! that my problem now is deciding which one to main, because, in comparison to most of anime fighting games I tried, they all had this goofy-archetipe-kinda stuff going on with most of their characters. But in this game, since they're all so INSANELY COOL, I have another problem now - which one is the coolest for me to get started.
On a related note, I feel like DBFZ players new to BlazBlue would enjoy Bullet due to the nature of her Drive and DBFZ's Super Dash mechanic being not too unlike each other.
For Kagura I’d say you approach Kagura like a mix between Nago, Axl, and Leo. Generally speaking, as far as Neutral goes, if you’re familiar with playing level 2-3 Nago, its pretty similar. Throw out your big sword normals to keep your opponents out, and a little bit of the Leo/Axl comes in when you throw out your projectiles too to force them to approach. More Axl comes into play when it comes to execution and just getting used to all the places you’ll be charging. And Like Leo, getting in is the hard part, but you generally have few issues actually staying in. The stances give you pretty good mixup options. You have one of the best DPs in the game, make sure your opponent remembers that, but common knowledge dictates not abusing it so you dont get punished. Kagura’s biggest weakness, like Nago and Axl is whiffing. You whiff 5C or 2C because they have a million recovery frames and that’s usually your life. You play the controlling space game since mobility isnt your forte, but you have to make sure your timing is right. I can’t tell you how many leads ive blown because someone got past my 5C and now i’m on the defensive.
I think a better pick for Chipp would be Jubei since he's also a rushdown character who takes a crazy amount of damage. And Arakune would be a better pick for Happy Chaos since he's also a unique, slow, zoner-kind of character.
I was thinking from a different angle for Happy Chaos. He requires some BIG BRAIN plays to pull off big damage and in my opinion Kokonoe is the exact same.
I think Hakumen is a good suggestion for Goldlewis players they both have a difficult time getting in and are really strong when they have a lot of resources but when they do get in with the resources they completely wipe out the opposition
I play Nago and I had already picked up and played with some BBCF characters and I IMMEDIATELY gravitated to Susan. This video sealed my fate as a Susan main lol
I basically play every character which is probably why i dont get better at most fighting games. But i just like switching it up alot. Except KI its alittle more narrowed down i play sadira, kim wu, rash and sometimes aria
In Gear, I play Jack-O and I used to play May. In Blazblue, I feel like Lambda gives me the keep away that I like, but has the rushdown gorilla potential that May has, so if you’re looking for a Zoner that can become a rushdown when they feel like it, go for Lambda
When I first started Blazblue I picked Bang, and loved him as a concept but was horrible at using him. Eventually I got so frustrated that I put the game down for a while. Then I got GG a few months later, and when I started Guilty Gear I immediately gravitated towards Leo and became a Leo main. When I got good at GG, I decided to pick up BB again, and I gravitated towards Kagura immediately. You called the fax on that one. After all that, I still love bang but ultimately prefer Kagura and feel much better using him, and I definitely think the fact that I love playing Leo plays a part in that, cause I caught the similarities immediately.
Hakumen for Nago & For Milia id probs pick Hibiki or maybe even Bullet(?) but Izanami is a good pick too I was thinking Azrael for Leo but Kagura is actually such a good pick lolol
As a player who came from Bbtag and is a Yang main I play Both Makoto for the brawler and I Play Mai as well because after reading thr manga she became one of my fav characters I picked May in GG because memes but she grew on me I still have a lot to learn in BbCF but the rollback felt great and the game is fantastic
As a Sol main I honestly prefer Susanoo over the main characters on Blazblue simply because I feel like a truck going 100mph in a 40 zone when I attack
My Strive main is Ram, but my BlazBlue main was Celica. I remember Es seeming pretty interesting too, though, although I never really got into her. Lambda, too. Incidentally, my Smash Bros. main is Mewtwo and my Under Night main was Yuzuriha. Seems like the one unifying factor is long reach.
I always just use the character that connects with me. I don't know what the criteria is but as long as I connect then I'm not changing characters even in sequels.
I think Jubei would be a better comparison for Millia than Izanami. Izanami is so complex that she deserves her own archetype. Jubei is very mobile, has the ball for oki, has an instant overhead, and has a command airdash. He also explodes just like Millia, but can snowball and whiff punish from across the screen. Sure Millia doesn’t have an install, but Jubei doesn’t always have to use it. Some MUs fair better if he plays Vanilla
It's funny that you paired them together because I love playing as Amane and hate playing as Goldlewis. :P I just found Goldy too big and clunky to use properly.
"Which character plays like Happy Chaos. None of em, in any fighting game. That guy is a weirdo man, but yeah pick Noel. I don't care. Next." That was hilarious got my sides hurting.
honestly izanami kinda fits the bill
Blazblue cast is so expressive you can do this type of character recommendation for pretty much any other 2d fighter as well.

i thought hakumen would've been the pick for nago players, since he also has big normals, big damage, special to special cancels, and meter management

I feel like Hakumen is not aggressive enough.
Nago doesn't have parries though
Hakumen is a defensive character because his meter builds passively, and through landing counters, so he is... different.
7:20 Correct, Happy Chaos isn't a fighting game character. Happy Chaos is what we would call a "hitscan character"; he is similar to, for example, the Counter Terrorist from Counter Strike.
I play May in every Guilty Gear game, but in Central Friction, I JUST so happened to gravitate towards Mai. So . . . yeah hes right there.

I think a better pick for Chipp would be Jubei since he's also a rushdown character who takes a crazy amount of damage.
And Arakune would be a better pick for Happy Chaos since he's also a unique, slow, zoner-kind of character.
Jubei is pretty good choice.
I agree. I started out with Chipp in Rev2 and Jubei just instantly clicked with me. All those movement options are so much fun.
I was thinking from a different angle for Happy Chaos. He requires some BIG BRAIN plays to pull off big damage and in my opinion Kokonoe is the exact same.
God whenever i hear about cf arakune i cant stop myself from seeing ct unlimited arakune with just fumny 2d at round start into mash then repeat
I think Hakumen is a good suggestion for Goldlewis players they both have a difficult time getting in and are really strong when they have a lot of resources but when they do get in with the resources they completely wipe out the opposition
Actually… this video is quite helpful! I just got blaz blue and don’t know who to play. I guess I’ll try out some of these recommended characters.
I play Nago and I had already picked up and played with some BBCF characters and I IMMEDIATELY gravitated to Susan. This video sealed my fate as a Susan main lol
Keep pushing the BBCF agenda!!
So happy to see more and more ppl come back / start playing this game
I'm just here to see who Baiken mains should play
Baiken
Hakumen. Pretty much the same turtly playstyle.
I basically play every character which is probably why i dont get better at most fighting games. But i just like switching it up alot. Except KI its alittle more narrowed down i play sadira, kim wu, rash and sometimes aria
Playing with random character selection is a great way to develop fundamentals and learn a game's mechanics.
In Gear, I play Jack-O and I used to play May. In Blazblue, I feel like Lambda gives me the keep away that I like, but has the rushdown gorilla potential that May has, so if you’re looking for a Zoner that can become a rushdown when they feel like it, go for Lambda
This video has reminded me of how terrifying unlimited Amane was when the Cpu used him.
I've mained makoto for a decade, but in strive I main ky and ramlethal, yet at the same time I can't disagree with the Gio-Makoto comparison
I ended up on Taokaka without knowing she was basically chipp till a bit later. It makes a lot of sense now
When I first started Blazblue I picked Bang, and loved him as a concept but was horrible at using him.
You have flashkick brain.
I'm a Goldlewis main, and the first four I thought about playing were, Hakumen, Azrael, Hazama and Yuuki. I stuck with Hakumen.
Gold - Amane was the weirdest one NGL (I thought it would be paired with Axl), but aside of that, I think it's pretty accurate
The main similarities I see with them is that they both have massive chip damage built in their kit.
@@rachetmarvel931 I get that, that's why he paired them. This was tricky one because no one in BlazBlue play similar ton Goldlweis
@@XmortoxX1990 true.
It's kinda funny how I play Jack-O in Strive and Mai in CF. The mental whiplash is pretty strong when switching games.
when is the full cast overview video coming out though. i'd listen to jiyuna talk about the blazblue cast for 44-45 minutes
This
I play I-no, so I like Nine because they’re both fan service witches.
would love to see you cover more characters from blazblue or do a similar video for persona
and happy chaos... there's nothing like happy chaos XD
love the guy.
Hakumen for Nago & For Milia id probs pick Hibiki or maybe even Bullet(?) but Izanami is a good pick too
I was thinking Azrael for Leo but Kagura is actually such a good pick lolol
As a player who came from Bbtag and is a Yang main I play Both Makoto for the brawler and I Play Mai as well because after reading thr manga she became one of my fav characters I picked May in GG because memes but she grew on me I still have a lot to learn in BbCF but the rollback felt great and the game is fantastic
BB seems fun and extremely tilting to me
i was expecting an arakune recommendation for people that play happy chaos because they're both unbelievably unique lol
As a Sol main I honestly prefer Susanoo over the main characters on Blazblue simply because I feel like a truck going 100mph in a 40 zone when I attack
As a Goldlewis main. The character that gave me the most enjoyment was Tager. I'm not even a big fan of grapplers.
Cool video. I can really see the similarities.
i would say that chip players would like bang more then tao with all his crazy mix ups, gimmicks and high risk reward
This video told me exactly what I wanted to hear.
Thank you for that!
I can confirm Kagura is a perfect analog to Leo. One of my friends is a Leo player, and once he found Kagura he started winning super consistently xD
"I-no stole this from Izayoi"
good recommendation, very underrated line lol
Future Mai mains about to open up a cursed ass can of worms when they learn she has some of the most cursed tech in the game.
I always just use the character that connects with me. I don't know what the criteria is but as long as I connect then I'm not changing characters even in sequels.
I play Es, Izayoi, Nine, Ragna, and Hibiki who has really fun high/low mixups and an anit-air grapple.
Yeah that’s probably a better comparison.
Mai Natsume is cute, strong, and has an amazing Astral Finish. definitely up there.
Cool video idea. Timestamps would be nice for videos like these though
Why the fuck did you not suggest Hazama for Axl mains?
i love how i played may and then found mai which is apparently exactly what people do
It's funny that you paired them together because I love playing as Amane and hate playing as Goldlewis. :P I just found Goldy too big and clunky to use properly.
I had forgotten how pretty this game is
