At least the actual island of Rhode Island is part of the state.
yea but it's called aquidneck island now
@bentley it was called Aquidneck Island first, and surprisingly today on the books it's still officially called Rhode Island
Lmao we have a island that is called block island
Block island is part of Rhode island
@@bentley5186 i live on aquidneck and it’s prolly the worst fucking place evee
I live in Rhode Island and of all my years on RUclips this is the first time I every saw a video or short or anything dedicated to Rhode Island.
Same honestly
Me to but I hate the schools
Same
That's because it's all you deserve. LOL
@@markgigiel2722 what is that suppose to mean lol
I can’t tell you how often I’ll tell someone I’m from Rhode Island and they’ll look at me and say “oh Long Island”
Also from rhode island.
that's weird
I know this pain
Ah I always just say “yup, Long Island!” It’s still better than having to say Boston! Lol
Oh long island
Actually Rhode Island got its name from a Dutch explorer named Adrian Block who named it “Roodt Eylandt” which means Red Island and thanks to Latin and English language the spelling was change to Rhode Island but pronounced basically the same way as Roodt Eylandt
As a Rhode islander, I can confirm this
Fun fact that little island is now called Aquidneck Island and consists of Portsmouth, Middletown, and Newport.
I live there
Stop doing the Sheldon thing 🙄
Aquidneck represent >:3 👍🏻
@@triatanstopmotions4157 im a Portsmouth native
@@THATguyTOMO hell yeah im from Portsmouth
As a Rhode Islander, we learned that it comes the Greek island, the island of roads, in the Aegean Sea.
Rhodes ....so much for good schools...lol
I thought it’s because the Dutch navigated it first and called it “Rood Eiland” meaning “Red Island” because they first saw it in autumn when the leaves in the trees were red?
They strip the Providence plantations off about two years ago. Plantation just means a large commercial farm with a single owner. So because of the connotation, basically have the word makes you feel regardless of the definition, they stripped off the name of the majority of the land of the state.
I feel the same way
Fr, literally nobody wanted them to do that. Snowflake moment.
They had to put it on the ballot repeatedly and it took the 2020 election to change it. It's a damn shame.
The worst part is that the "rhode island" part of the colony was the slavery center. Providence plantations were one of the first to openly embrace abolition.
And we had many pirates
Yay Rhode Island got in a video. I was convinced that the whole country didn’t know we exist
This is very oversimplified. The true reason how Rhode Island came to exist is that at one point there was 3 colonies. Like was was said in the short, there was Providence, but there was also Newport and Middletown. When the colony of Providence got the official Royal Charter from England, they united the colonies of Newport and Middletown with it to form a new colony, which was proclaimed on the island of Rhode, thus, the colony of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations, which by the way just means farms. Rhode Island banned slavery when it first formed. In 2020 they changed the name to just Rhode Island as even though "Plantation" just means farm, they didn't want to be associated with slavery.
We are so cool yet so fucking dumb at the same time.
Finally someone who talks about Rhode Island. No one talks about little old Rhody
ikr this is the first YT short I have seen only being focused on Rhode Island.
It feels great to finally see one short
Bro I live in Rhode Island 💀
Hey that’s we’re I live
One of my favourite states
Finally a short from my state 😮
Basically nothing about this video is accurate. This state was named by Dutch explorer Adrian Block. He named it "Roodt Eylandt" meaning "red island" in reference to the red clay that lined the shore. The island circled in this video is called "Acquidneck Island." And "Providence Plantations" was only removed from the State's name like a year ago.
Yeah I knew he was full of crap.
Acquidneck islands official name is Rhode Island.
@@fnblount7602 it literally isn’t but whatever you want to believe chief
Lives around the country. Living in Southern New England isn't bad. Rush hour is about 15-20 minutes longer to get where you're going, not an hour or more, everything is closeby, even in the sticks/country. Cold winters, not much snow.
Snow here one day, gone the next, one whole side of the state is on the ocean. Never seem empty store shelves. Just have to warm up to the people, and get to know them. Best medicine in the nation is Boston, and NYC, and Little Rhody up there, with Brown University medical school. Tasty water, and plenty of it, and reasonable housing. Think I'll stay for awhile.
-you didn't have to cut me off
Yeah it's where dreams go to die.
I'm glad thus guy takes the requests of his commenters to make shorts. Example a few weeks ago I asked him to make a video why Germany and Liechenstein are technically still at war and he did it a few days later
As a rhode islander I've never searched up why it has island in it this is one of those answers you don't need or want to know
Thanks for covering my state!
This the first time someone talking Rhode island
I live in Rhode Island
I live here, and whenever someone asks and I saw I live in Rhode Island they ask me if it's am actual island
Rhode Island peeps
👇
here
I live in Rhode Island and this is the first time I have ever saw a video that talks about Rhode Island. Everyone forgets about us because we are the smallest state. But that’s good because nothing bad ever happens here. Like, no bomb threats or school shootings. But I still hate it here. There is so much bad people, it’s crazy.
Rhode Island superiority
It’s Aquidneck island and technically plantation is still in our state name 😂
Nooooo really Rhode Island isnt a island 😭💀
Islander here, its called rhode island because of jamestown which is a actual island and has a LONG fucking bridge
Nobody knows about our State. We are glossed over when it comes to weather.. it’s always Connecticut this or Massachusetts that. In saying all that it’s the most corrupt and smallest of all 50!
Interesting!
"Rhode Island isnt an island (...) One situated in Rhode Island (an island)"
Bruh
Hay my home state
It’s called the ocean state some say
Bro it fucking sucks over here in Rhode Island
Bro what it’s fine here 😂
yes but if you take into consideration the Champlain canal, Richelieu river, and St Lawrence Seaway the entire NE is an island🤓
the word plantations was only removed a couple years ago..
In like 2009 or 2017 cant remember.
i have never seen a video of rhode island and omg i hate when people think i live in a damn island i’m like 🧍♀️
Love my state
As someone who lives in said state, yes, it's funny.
They only recently changed it to just Rhode Island. Plantation was an old word meaning settlement but the connotations outweighed the history behind the name. Also nobody can agree where the “Rhode” comes from
I can confirm that this is true since I'm a Rhode Islander
You don't know your stars historical beginnings very well then 😂
No longer are we the smallest state with the longest name
GUYS THE TOWN I LIVE IS LITERRY THE ONE THAT LOOKS LIKE A HSND RIGHT ABOVE THE RED
The changing of the name didn't make much sense, considering Slavery was never legal in our states history
The trading / selling of slaves was illegal, but if you already owned them they were neutral on the issue if you were passing through or visiting. But yeah, 1652 was when slavery was abolished in RI. Everyone else took over 200 years to catch up. 🤣
I think I knew this once long, long ago.
That is wrong. As Roger Williams came through the bay, he thought it looked the literature of the aisles of Rhodes (Greece)
Its next to a island 🤦🏿♂️
Dokutah
Finally someone talks about our smallest state yet has the longest name in the US state of Rhode island Providence plantations
I am from Rhode island 😂
Same. Woonsocket
WRONG FROM BEGINNING TO END 😂😂😂
How?
No it’s not an island but some of Providence is built on a bridge.
Ahhhh good old "Long Island"
"Hello yes 911 this commenter right here"

The clams and horseshoe crabs fell silent
He arrives....
Run....
This is how I feel every day waking up in RI
To whoever made this video. The reason its called rhode island is because when explorers first saw aquidneck island they thought it looked like the isle of rhodes in greece.
oh
We get our state name from olden times when some criminals and those who’d ignore the laws would run away to this area giving it the nickname Rouge’s Island it was later officially named Rhode Island
That makes sense since we are so corrupt 😂
We know this
I live in ri
Where are all my Rhode Island’ers👇👇👇👇👇👇
Yes we exist. No I don’t mean Long Island
I know a guy..
i live in ri
i hate it here
At this point every word in the english dictionary will be controversial to united states.
slavery was still a thing when those island became a state. I don't think they were worried about the plantation part..
It only recently was changed, for a long time it was the smallest state with the longest name.
RHODE ISLAND LORE
which lore my friend
There are many different islands that make up rhode island aquidneck island Gould island prudence island
Don’t forget block island
I love there.*yes ik nobody asked haters
simply, not true
Yea don't come here 😂😂😂 it's quite and nice
Idk why is it called Rhone Island??
He said it in the video
@@CTJM_Middleton I know but my phone sound was off.
@@ConnerPerez2024 oh
Aquidneck island is the large island situated in the state.
It was either because of the Island of Rhodes in Greece, or because the new world explorers saw that the sand on Aquidneck Island was red.
That's aquidnick island ..... Source I lived there and worked on the navy base.
The official name is Rhode Island. Aquidnick is just a local name.
@@fnblount7602 Nope. Aquidneck Island is the largest island in the state of RI, where Newport is located
@@fnblount7602 wrong, look on any map. I have lived in this state my whole life. It may have been called that long ago but it is officially aquidnick island
Untrue. Religious dissidents, such as Roger Williams, were kicked out of Massachusetts and other surrounding states ( Protestants I believe) Leading to them labeling the land "Rogue Island", which later became Rhode Island.
Did you make they up yourself or were you told that?
1633. It's now roge Island
Rename it Providence
Can’t that’s are capital city
@@bamtastick9141 Rename the capital "Providence City"
As a rhode islandite I’m glad to see an ri vid
I thought we were called Rhode Islanders
Kinda true but no I live here Rhode Island got its name from Rodger Williams
You must've just moved here then buddy, either that or you're homeschooled. Providence got it's name from Roger, but the island itself had been named decades earlier by both the Dutch and the Br*tish
you are not correct. rhode island most certainly is an island and I live on it. You have to either drive over a 2 mile bridge or take a boat to get here.
The way the residents be acting,
The official state name should be "Retarded Island" 🤷🏾♂️🤷🏾♂️🤷🏾♂️🤷🏾♂️
It isn’t that bad
Best state in the county by farrr

Yay for you 😂
The silly woke crybabies don't really know what plantation means so the state buckled and shortened the name. Sad .
Ah yes, controversial. That's what the use of the word plantations brings up in people educated on the history of this country is "controversial feelings"

Nope. Earliest translate back to the Dutch people who called it the 'Rood' Island, or Red Island. Then later on the Br*tish would name it after the greek island of Rhodes
