    A huge thank you to the sponsor of todays video, Quiztones. Click this link to check out the app that I have been recommending to aspiring engineers for years!

    This video I walk you through drum mixing at the one and only Mansion Sound recording studio.
    I show you how to align your drums to get the most out of your drum recordings using Sound Radix Auto Align 2 (SICKEST AUDIO PLUGIN EVER!!)
    Then I show you how to gate the drums using my favorite drum gate ever made, Oxford Drum Gate.
    Now that we have the foundation of the drums built, I turn to the analog gear. We always start at the Solid State Logic Duality Fuse for some EQ and Compression. Then we move into gear from Universal Audio, Shadow Hills, Chandler Limited, Lexicon 480L, Bricasti, Pope Audio, Neve, and a ton more.
    I always use Genelec monitors to reference with. They are just my all time favorite.
    Thanks for watching!
    If you have any questions at all, feel free to ask me in the comments.

    This is the perfect example of why I first see the final result for after listen how he did it. This video is great to show us, that no matter how many stuff you have in your studio, at the end, is what comes out of the speaker.
    thank you

    My goodness, when you heard the rumble in the kick, you instantly knew to go to the gate…. I’ve been engineering for 15 years and still would have reached for the EQ 😂
    I love watching other people and learning new things :)

    Nice video! The final drum mix feels too raw for me still but that's my taste probably haha. As a drummer myself I like the drums to feel like an extension of my performance (what I imagine during playing) - bigger, wider, with more punch and keeping all of the details of the performance (ghosts notes are very important and every detail on each cymbal - I like to hear the distinct differences between each cymbal I play and the high end attack of the stick + where they are places in the panorama + the dynamics of every cymbal hit because I can practice hours and hours to play the little details on the cymbals and a snare really precise). It's like 40-50% there here. I would probably push more lows and highs, push the overheads louder (maybe also brighter to make the individual cymbal hits more audible) and make the compression accentuate the attack more to really make it pop and have some nice crack to the snare. It feels too shy and restrained altough I love the natural tone and warmth that's underneath it (feels like it would be pretty easy to push it a bit without making it sound artificial because the raw tones are great). I didn't mean to offend you or anything like that, it's just my honest opinion, may be just my taste and you can ignore my comment haha. I'm subbing your channel and really like your content, it's great!

    Well, this is super true, but most people just can’t afford the high end gear and if you’re starting to mix in the box, I would say get with nebula nebula is a way for you to have high end gear right inside your DAW
    And be honest with you, I’ve gotten so good with the nebula Plugins with the affordable, and GEARV that I have
    I honestly don’t even have to upgrade and I’m getting just as good of a sound as his huge studio

    Mix with good headphones so you don't ever have to move back and forth to hear the right sound balance. An advice from a very beginner.

  • @morbidmanmusic
    @morbidmanmusic 11 месяцев назад +2

    yeah, but the poor level matching gets difficult to listen thru. Samples, ... time align. not a fan, as a drumming engineer. it isn't how ears, or mics hear. Sample just cover up reality. With all that work, there are still too many sounds without the labor that rival it as far as real sounding actual drums. (from what ever chosen listening perspective)

    Hey brother question why not use the ssl gates? You feel the plugin is as good?

    • @Studio22mix
      @Studio22mix 6 месяцев назад

      He uses Sonnox drum gate, which is one of the best drum gates out there. Hardware gates are not as tweakable as good software gates. I use Drawmer DS201 gates which are pretty good but software like Sonnox Drum Gate and Sonible Smart Gate are way better imo

    its lowdown how SSL figured out how to keep that out of the hands of about 90% of the people that engineer.....really low down !!!!
