I differently identify with Candace Owens. I too came from a dysfunctional alcholic Black household on welfare in a NYC Project. Had a child at 17 and decided to marry the Mother and move out. We struggled together for 13 years but secured viable careers, she in the medical field and me as a graphic designer. To make a long story short she remarried and secured a house and an excellent health plan. I became an alcoholic and had twin boys out of wedlock and got on Welfare for 5 years. Got my wake-up call after walking into a moving city bus and only ripped the pants of my suit. I decided to enroll into a Tap college program and got my GED, Bachelors degree in Business Administration, and a Post Graduate degree in Communications Design. Today I have a USA government patent, Townhouse in Harlem & 3 intelligent, creative entrepreneurs in the family. I've retired after 18 years in government service with a nice Pension, MediCARE and medical coverage better than some of our politicians. Only in America could this have happened. I guess I am very lucky. I don't even know any liberals. I think most people in Texas are naturally conservative. I grew up and still live in a farming community that takes care of each other. I am 77 years old and have seen a lot of things change over the years but most people are good caring folks, at least around here they are.

The older woman that said Candice gives her hope made me cry, because I honestly had lost hope for America. I’m 71 years old and have literally cried many days because I feared that I was going to leave this earth knowing the horrible future for my children and grandchildren. I differently identify with Candace Owens. I too came from a dysfunctional alcholic Black household on welfare in a NYC Project.
Had a child at 17 and decided to marry the Mother and move out. We struggled together for 13 years but secured viable careers, she in the medical field and me as a graphic designer. To make a long story short she remarried and secured a house and an excellent health plan. I became an alcoholic and had twin boys out of wedlock and got on Welfare for 5 years.
Got my wake-up call after walking into a moving city bus and only ripped the pants of my suit. I decided to enroll into a Tap college program and got my GED, Bachelors degree in Business Administration, and a Post Graduate degree in Communications Design.
Today I have a USA government patent, Townhouse in Harlem & 3 intelligent, creative entrepreneurs in the family. I've retired after 18 years in government service with a nice Pension, MediCARE and medical coverage better than some of our politicians.

Candice Owens is a wonderful free thinking black American. She thinks like I do my friends. When I was a child, I drove my parents nuts because I always asked the question why. I was told that I would always have someone telling me what to do in life. My response was, that's find, but if I don't understand the why, then I will not understand the reason . I won't know the reason or if what I am being told is good or bad. Same thing in school, I would raise my hand and ask why. I was told that I was taking up to much class time. Well, to my way of thinking that would be indoctrination, not education. Candice Owens is a breath of fresh air at a time when our society is choking on the smoke screen of politics and media. I believe that some folks hat to be asked the question why, is because that forces them to explain them selves in debate.

I can remember as a child n a white family surrounded by black families something was not right . We would go to movies on Saturdays and my friends and neighborhood children had to make a left inside and go up a set of stairs to a balcony . My heart still aches from those innocent childhood feelings of the past .
As I sat in the back of the theater and watched us being separated , I can still remember the tears trickling down my face because I couldn't understand what they had done wrong . I was.just a small child caught in a dehumanizing political scam of controlling human slaves by the pigmentation of their skin .
When I hear Candice speak , my heart leaps with joy . I can feel that surge of freedom that is being released into the world and yes those tears still trickle down my old face , not because of my childhood confusion but instead of my love for God and Thanksgiving that even though it's taken me 70 years to experience the explosion of the truth of God's love for all His children coming together in one mind and one accord .

I guess I am very lucky. I don't even know any liberals. I think most people in Texas are naturally conservative. I grew up and still live in a farming community that takes care of each other. I am 77 years old and have seen a lot of things change over the years but most people are good caring folks, at least around here they are.
I hear you but there is Texas of myth and Texas of reality. Just like there is Nashville of myth and Nashville of reality. What is country about country music? The meaning of conservative has changed. Nowadays, a "conservative Texan" can mean two cowboys who get hitched and get a ranch in bumfuk and keep to themselves. And all their relatives who are cool with it too. Yep a lot has indeed changed but Texas is and has always been Texas. It is just that other people not from there buy into the chamber of commerce and folklore. Like assuming all Texans can ride a horse. No offense.
