Emily Dickinson 1830 -1886 is one of the greatest American poets. Though her poems seem controversial, and many critics have gone puzzled about her philosophy on what artistical messages she aimed to convey to her poetry readers. For me I have come across a number of her poems. Truly speaking I 'm impressed by her poetry and in particular the type of language she uses; though difficult but it bears a great texture of debatable artistical and poetical images on, for example, the matter of life and death, the wordly life and the hereafter. As far as I know Emily prefered to lead a solitary life when she was shocked by missing some reltives of her who died earlier; neices or nephews, I am not sure excatly whom she lost. So most of her poems speak of the issue of death and life and how do we pass from a reality we sense to another reality we know, but not yet experienced and how it looks like. I am so glad Mrs. Gill you 've introduced one poem of this great poet ..thank you so much. I hope you will introduce other poems.
I've just recently joined the channel (I'm from Russia), and I wanted to say: Thank You Very Much! - I loved everything😊 immediately 😳.. - I've looked through the titles of published lessons - 💗 - I'm sure it is The Very help I needed to 'save' my knowledges - Thank You Very Much!👍🌟🙏 - it is such a Great support to have free access with the RUclips videos - 🙏🙏💕- Thank You!😊👍🙏
Oh!, - P.S. - I think I 'loved everything immediately' because I suddenly felt... I'm not sure I could describe this correctly... - well, - I've suddenly felt, that the logic and the structure of the lessons, You're presenting on the channel, - they are much familiar to the way I was taught the language at school (it was 30 years ago) - and I'm absolutely sure, that it was, and it definitely IS, the best methodic - I love it 💗 - Thank You! 😊🙏

Please give us some more poems!! THE TREE by William Blake (23/8/1799) The tree that moves some to tears of joy Is in the eyes of the others Only a green thing that stand in the way . Some see nature all ridicule, deformity By these I shall not regulate my proportions; Some scarce see nature at all. But to the eyes of the man of imagination Nature is imagination it self. As a man is. So he sees . As the eye formed , such are its powers. William Blake ( London 28/11/1757 ) Was an English poet, painter, print marker and mystical. He was a very good example of how we can perceive and express our idiosyncratic way of understanding and feeling reality.
I really enjoy your style of teaching. This video was interesting and even a bit relaxing too! This was a nice way to teach metaphors. Thanks! Great idea.
Hi Gill I really enjoy to see how you explain Emily's poem. It is full of surrounding images of landscape, human actions, birds, it makes you feel so gentle and peaceful. The way she concludes is beautiful with a shepherd puts down the gate to the flocks. Shepherd could be a church minister and flocks are people. This is a first time i hear some one explain the English poem to me and i really appreciate it. Thanks Gill. Love it ! More please :)
the sun rising looks like it shows one ray at the time/ like ribbons; she then, describes her city steeples apearing and disapearing from the fog the hills untied their bonnets, means that clouds are going up, so the peak of the hill which was cover by a cotton cloudy bonnet is untied
Thank you Angela! It really clarified that riddle for me. Also i thought that shadows under the hills and between them becoming less dark so it looks like ribbons that were tied are now loosen. But i understand now that it was cloudy and foggy so thats why steeples were swimming. Have a nice day!
Such a good teacher you are! I am a beginner in english and this lesson is so comprehensible, so clear. Thank you very much. I have a book of complete emily dickinson poems. So i wish i could understand better with this lesson. Thank you again Gill, love u ❤️
