The other thing that wasn’t mentioned is that a lot of the engine noise is fake. When you switch between comfort, normal, and sport mode it gets louder, but it’s all piped in.
Got a 24 GLI in Feb. Can attest to the door rattle. Bass buzzing wire, somethings loose. Other than that annoyance, cars been glorious. Very happy. You need to manually send the System Nav from main infotainment to the Tach Screen. Only had to do it once, now it shows maps in background. Stock tires are terrible.
Cheap cost cutting inexcusable on a sedan this size. No USB-C nor a 12 volt port in the back either. GLI suffers from cheap interior materials and the Back is a cacophony of hard plastics😂
For me yes. I bought a white 2024 GLI and I love it. Great manual transmission which is what I was looking for. Faster and cheaper than Honda. Mine was 33000 out the door.
Got a 2024 40th Anniversary Edition in a manual. Absolutely love it (except for the fuel line rattle). Just waiting on my free 10K miles maintenance to get it fixed.
@@theSkavenger84 White! VW will send you a nice plaque about 5” x 8” which has a picture of the GLI 40th anniversary car, and the VIN number and date built. It is nice and thoughtful from VW.
@@joeschepis i got mine about a month ago! I just never put up a video of it yet! But i ahve a bunch of shorts of my car on my page if you’re interested 🙏
@@TonyA4766 congrats on the GLI! Get it to your dealer and tell them it’s the fuel line in that passenger footwell area. Hopefully they take care of it as quickly as my dealer did… less than an hour
My dad owns a 2022 Jetta SEL. It has been great so far but he is interested in trading it in for a new GLI, not because he wants a performance car, but because the regular jetta has the cheap tortion beam rear suspesion which handles poorly and thumbs badly over broken pavement. The brakes are also not adequate. I own an Elantra N, but the nice thing about the GLI is it is a more normal car in the affordable "performance" car segment. It is still daily drivable and does not beat you up, and is one of the only if not the only offering with real leather seats in the segment.
Local-ish dealer has a GLI autobahn. They have an $8k markup on it and it's been on their lot 79 days. Other area dealers spread out also have a plethora of GLI Autobahns sitting, not as long, but sitting nonetheless. I can only assume they have markups as well. Gotta love how VW couldn't sell hardly any in CA after the emissions scandal and now their prices are higher than Willie Nelson on a sober day.
@BachmanVolkswagenLouisville Ikr!? I told the salesman I would want the markup removed. Told him we're not in the pandemic driven chip and supply shortage anymore, and as much as I like the car, it's not an exotic. I see no reason for a markup. He's told me twice the manager said he'd work with me to lower the markup, but not remove it entirely. 🤷🏻♂️
I have a ‘21 6MT same Color and I love it. However I paid $30k OTD and would not have paid $34k for. ‘24 with the exact same body, engine and features. This is the inflation price. On the other hand, the civic si is underpowered and the Elantra is fast but hideous looking imho.
I have a 2017 GLI and a 2019 SEL Jetta. I wish VW did not move from Fender to Beats. My sound quality in my 2017 is way better than the 2019 with Beats.
Great review. I’ve never seen your videos before. I am thinking about this car, but $35K seems high to me. I had the 2019 GLI Autobahn and paid $28. I don’t see a $7K difference in terms of quality or features, unfortunately. My hesitations are the cheap plasticky interior, no rear climate function and that weird red and black fake wood grain trim. The auto start stop function is or was absolutely annoying, but hopefully you can disable that for good in the 2024 model.
For a commuter that just wants some decent power thats atleast over 200hp u think this is a good option. If not what would be better. I like the styling and the features r pretty good.
I just purchased 40th anniversary GLI, this thing will move, even in ECO mode! I was surprised! Really fun to drive and gooood power. This will make a great commuter car. Plenty of room! I recommend test driving one fast!
For $34000, I’ll take the vastly superior MK8 GTI made in Germany, 241 HP EA888 evo 4, rear seat vents, 4 USB-C ports (2 front, 2 back) hatchback form factor, better interior materials, superior chassis and handling dynamics, better stereo (Harman Kardon superior to Beats on Jetta GLI) far better front seats.
The GTI Autobahn starts at $40k. The GLI Autobahn is just under $32k, and the 40th Anniversary GLI is $28k. They all have pretty much the same guts and performance.
it just sucks that this car should be about $26-28k, but the economy sucks. Harkens to the WRX where they give up interior luxury for performance, but $34k should get you both. $30k I might do it. $34k is being greedy. It is what it is I guess. It's basic and not all THAT performance oriented. 5 years ago, this price point could get you the limited version of it's competitors. Now its expensive just because and because you'll pay it.
Why does everyone call the back seat hump a transmission hump?…..its a FRONT WHEEL DRIVE system. Maybe thats an exhaust hump?….to me, they messed up this car over the years. NOT worth 34k!

the main complain here is, why the GLI/JETTA doesn't have the rear seat air vents!!!

Excellent and unbiased review of the GLI. I may have missed it but there is also a six speed manual offered. The 7 speed DSG also has paddle shifters.
Great review I like the approach
Thank you!
I definitely love hearing the engine and turbo on my Vw Jetta GLI!!!

Just bought the 2019 for 20k. 60k miles. Great condition
That rattle be advised maybe something pertaining to the fuel pump. My understanding other people complained about that issue as well.
Rattle is the fuel line. They all do it.
Yup, mine rattled/vibrated as well. Dealership took care of it under warranty.
Interesting

Hi Bachman. You didn’t demonstrate if the steering column can tilt. And. Does it have satellite navigation? À demo would have been good.
It sorta does have rear vents. They are under the seats

Same in my metro area. Had to drive 240 miles to find one for 3k off MSRP, a difference of like 5k.
It would have been nice to have done the 40th anniversary edition
Pretty much the same except some cosmetic stuff for the most power I believe
@@sam-xq2jw few less features for like 3k less

What’s the difference between the Gli 40th Anniversary Edition vs the Autobahn?

It’s awesome.

@japanwatchconnection I would but mpg is kinda bad and I don't like touch climate control. Very premium car tho no doubt.
@skystriker93 does lack of features like brake hold or rear vent ac bother u at all.

There is plastic everywhere. I want a fully metal made car.
no airvents for rear seat plus ugly red accent that is not optional
worth 3400$ in 5 years.
For 34k, you can get sonata n line, more options, more power, n better warranty if you preferred Hyundai.
