OK - new fan here. They are the greatest. When I heard them on the radio the first time, I thought it was Jackson Browne. That's the highest honor in my book.
I cry every single time I listen to this song, at least twice, sometimes the whole song thru. An understated work of true genius. Love love love love love...
I've been in love with these guys since I saw them on Letterman, playing Time Spent in Los Angeles. Great harmonies, wonderfully simple guitar work, poignant lyrics, beautiful melodies. I sure hope these guys make it... they deserve it!
I saw Dawes live, opening for Bob Dylan. They seemed tired. It was, I believe, their last night opening on that leg of the tour, so I'm sure they WERE tired. They seemed to get in their groove towards the end of the set, though, and they remain one of the best bands I've heard out of the past decade or so. Vocals..amazing. Lyrics..inspiring. I'm definitely a big Dawes fan now!
A ballerina in Phoenix The pines up north The sunrise from a highway That was not there before If I can place it all together Make out the nature of the call I start to feel the love and the silence That was always at the root of it all And in my constant quest for truth I am condemned to facts alone And though my dreams all lead me nowhere I wonâ™t forget my way back home From the corner of a coffee shop Or from the center of a stage From the words used in a love note Or from an empty page While I struggle with these beauties And my renditions end up dry Iâ™m like a bird that crashes into the window That was drawn to the reflection of the sky And the more I try to speak The more I lose that earthly tone And before heaven proves me hopeless I wonâ™t forget my way back home Ooh Oooh Ooh Ooh Ooh Ooh..... I admit that these answers that I seek Are all to questions Iâ™ve never known But I pray to keep on looking for as long as I can roam And when the world finally fulfills me I will not forget my way back home
Totally agree with you. On our other account "thealternateside907" we have some videos of a band named School of Seven Bells - two twins harmonizing like you wouldn't believe!
Man, at times, the camera work in this video is as bad as the the harmonies are good. If it weren't for the warm guitar tone and the vocal synergy, I think I'd have motion sickness.
So I kept getting recommended a little bit of everything and the comment section made it seem amazing but I really didn't like it. this song however, gave me chills. The harmonies were perfect I shall check out some more now
I keep hearing that song from the movie, "Rock Star" called "We all die young". I really like this song though, if I ignore the preaching in it. "When I am condemned to facts alone, when my dreams all lead me nowhere, I won't forget my way back home" So this song seems to say that he can go have his search for truth, but it is for no point, as it always comes back to the unexplained being explained by clinging to no reality at all, religion, Christian I assume.
Just as the father was waiting for his prodigal Son to return; Our heavenly Father is waiting for us to return when we have wandered away from His fold.. He's right there waiting with open arms because He loves us and does not want us to drown in our sorrows, nor perish in our sins. He loves us so much, He sent is Son to die in our place, to pay the penalty for our sin: mine the sin, His the sacrifice; mine the sin, His the pain;. mine the sin, but His death. "The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord."(Romans 6:23)
The sweetness of their voices. The easy intensity of the lyrics... I'm so glad to have discovered Dawes.

I love how they swap harmonies toward the end of the song. There's not one bad song this group does.
Any song Grif sings on gives me chills. This Session will always be one of my favorites.
He renders the grease out of every song!
Just when I thought this generation wasn't going to be able to produce true quality male singing! Keep it up, boys!
I am in love with Dawes music
I would have to say this is my favorite Dawes song. And this is my favorite version.
Who needs drugs when you have Dawes.
I cry every single time I listen to this song, at least twice, sometimes the whole song thru. An understated work of true genius. Love love love love love...

Love this song. Had a break up, learned this on my guitar and got over it....
Is this DADGAD or just a dropped D? Haven’t tried to figure it out myself yet.
Pure art and masterpiece brings me back to life, Thank you.
Incredible version of an incredible song.
I keep coming back to this video for this very reason - the harmonies here are so lovely.
Just amazing, wonderful, astonishing, ...
Yet another gem of a version I havent heard before…stirring
Damn! That sweet guitar and harmony! Warms my heart... thank you.
Ah, quite possibly my favorite version of my favorite Dawes tune. Thanks FUV for this and for introducing me to them. :-)
Beautiful - up there with the best. Timeless.
I totally agree! The harmonies in sibling band Sons of Bill are also amazing, for example.
Dawes is the best

So easy on the ears.
I could listen to this for hours.
A ballerina in Phoenix
The pines up north
The sunrise from a highway
That was not there before
If I can place it all together
Make out the nature of the call
I start to feel the love and the silence
That was always at the root of it all
And in my constant quest for truth
I am condemned to facts alone
And though my dreams all lead me nowhere
I wonâ™t forget my way back home
From the corner of a coffee shop
Or from the center of a stage
From the words used in a love note
Or from an empty page
While I struggle with these beauties
And my renditions end up dry
Iâ™m like a bird that crashes into the window
That was drawn to the reflection of the sky
And the more I try to speak
The more I lose that earthly tone
And before heaven proves me hopeless
I wonâ™t forget my way back home
Ooh Oooh Ooh Ooh Ooh Ooh.....
I admit that these answers that I seek
Are all to questions Iâ™ve never known
But I pray to keep on looking for as long as I can roam
And when the world finally fulfills me
I will not forget my way back home

Reminds me of Simon and garfunkle. Nice guys.
Who needs GPS when you have Dawes?
This comment is *chef's kiss*
Dawes is truly amazing!!! Check out THE SUBJECTIVE PERSPECTIVE... amazing duo!!!
speechless
I figured it out, it was a drop D. this band is amazing
there is plenty of it, you just cant look for it on mtv and the radio, you actually have to search for it.
Griffin is the Robin/Carl/Garfunkel brother that makes harmonies sound so good!
have you listened to The Staves yet? 3 sisters, totally awesome IMO ;)

sibling harmonies are on a whole different level from unrelated singers. IMHO.
Simon & Garfunkal part 2??

Nice Gibson Roy Smeck Stage Deluxe. Man, does that guitar have TONE.
Well, I know what song I'm learning next.

Christian Rock?
Don't twins usually come in "twos"? LOL
I think Goldsmith(the brother's last name) is Jewish, isnt it? Doesnt matter, just saying.
