I love Taylor's guitar playing. He's solid as a rhythm guitarist, he's solid as a lead player. Never flashy, but his phrasing is so perfect. I love when he sings a line and then punctuates it with a little lick of some kind. I think he's super underrated. Also, props to the rest of the band for being so tasteful in how they play, and extra props to the drummer for being the primary backup vocalist while also drumming well. It's not easy!
This was my first Dawes show and first introduction to the band and the highlight of my time at SXSW! They quickly became one of my favorite bands, I've seen them about 10 times in different cities. I've loved watching how they've evolved and I'm thrilled this special show exists on the internet for me to relive!!
I recall the first time I heard this brilliant band, I was sitting in a f'n traffic jam that stretched for MILES on Telegraph Road North of Detroit. I had just purchased their first CD at the recommendation of a friend who's musical taste I trust implicitly. I put the CD in the player in my vehicle and not two minutes later I couldn't give a rats ass if the traffic jam went on for another hour. I emailed the friend who suggested the CD to me and said.... "if this is the way that music is to be written and played by the younger generation of artists then we are in capable and caring hands". Dawes is the real deal and oh so skilled. Taylor Goldsmith et all, keep it coming PLEASE! Thank you for posting this wonderful music!
+400OTD I have several similar recollections myself. First one was "A Little Bit of Everything" after one of our dogs had died but it wasn't just that line, it was the brilliance of the lyrics and the simple beauty of the music. I was driving, and lost in a back country area, but I too didn't care. I was hooked. And I've been hooked ever since on this band. Like one person said on another post, when Taylor Goldsmith is happy, we're all happy. I agree with you, it does give me some hope for the future of today's music!
I listened to North Hills in it's entirety while sitting trying to get out of a parking garage after work one day. The one day I got out at 5pm, but at least I had some loud company.
400TD, I was going to put that in my comment, but didn't. When you remember where you were the first time you heard one of your favorite bands....people don't really ever think about that...like a National tragedy, you know. This is like when you remember the first time you fell in love or got your heartbroken, unforgettable. Great observation, and post.
I first heard them in 2019, in the midst of a tough summer, ( hard to believe how much worse the intervening years have become ). I was living with my 84 year old Dad, weeks before his hospitalization, and then assisted living. A musician friend ( thanks, Brian Dunn ) recommended the band. On the hottest night of an eastern Canadian summer, I lay awake, and brought up the official, "All Your Favorite Bands." I'm a fan for life, and still not an orphan.

I discovered this band with this performance, I get goosebumps and I can't stop listening to it. If I was there in the public I would be making the same faces as the drummer.
Love these guys, such amazing everything, words, message, talent, and sound. It's been one of my favorite finds, #DawestheBand. I hope you always stay together.
Obviously Taylor's guitar playing is amazing. I've seen him play live and we're all familiar with their shit...but this performance is insane. One of my favorites.
Absolutely. He's so well-rounded. In my experience a lot of rhythm players aren't that comfortable playing lead, and a lot of lead players don't have the patience for really solid, simple rhythm playing. But he does both so tastefully and competently.
After coming across "From A Window Seat" and 100 different versions of it , I let this play on whilst doing other things and I figured youtube had autoplayed a lost Elvis Costello track but it turns out to be "Something In Common." The performance and the recording here are outstanding. That said; all the live recordings I've seen by Dawes have been impressive, so if the tickets are still up for grabs, I'll be catching them in November 2019.
‘Seen’ them so many times as a support act and shamefully, didn’t pay them much attention. Would give anything right now to right that wrong now. Stupendous band. 😩

Please let me know who you think should be added, thanks. I will argue with you if they aren't rock bands, great, or young/new. Don't tell me you just discovered an awesome new band called The Pixies. You're way too late. This is the list so far... (order is random)
Jordan Reilly Great band, I think they are too established with too many albums/years. I am actually pretty new to the band. Lots of respect for their talent. Good suggestion though.
david letterman I'd consider Hound Mouth a band worth mentioning but their music might be overall too laid-back for the list although I like their sound with the likes of bon over and OMaM
The anger in the first song is so palpable it changes the whole meaning. You're intention changes the reception from innocent and lovely to a knife stuck in and turned. It hurts to be left But it's no more hurtful than you allow it to be. #yourwordsareperfectincomparison
That is a beautiful mixture of the single coil pickups in his telecaster, his old blackface Fender (looks like a deluxe reverb) and his midrange booster. I read in an interview that the bass player actually made the midrange boost pedal for him! It adds crunch and sustain to his tone which yields a certain amount of touch sensitivity and dynamic range that isn't accessible with a distortion pedal.
Matt Bagley look up Rig Rundown Dawes and that will give be you a complete set up of what Taylor uses, including all of his guitars, amps, and pedals. I was excited to see that he has an Old Blood Noise Procession in his pedal line up. Another great video of Taylor is called Coffee and Riffs with Taylor Goldsmith.
+dawson Schulenberg ha! It won't but no worries....:). I could always do it and send you the video file if you like? Feel free to let me know your email and I'll do it when I can!
Birth Announcement: Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, The Eagles, and Jackson Browne have all contributed DNA to create a new bouncing baby which we are calling Baby Dawes. Child and parents are all doing well and Baby Dawes is quite the sleeper. We hope Baby Dawes lives up to its potential and makes its parents proud. Baby Dawes will be practicing in the basement with their new equipment, hand me downs from their parents. In a few years, you will be able to hear Baby Dawes live in the LA area, then beyond. Please raise your glass in a toast to the new Baby Dawes! May it have a long, healthy, and productive life! Mazel Tov!
david letterman Baby Dawes looks by far not at his beautiful 'parents" Crosby Stills etc Even his nephews The War on Drugs and the great Band of Horses look better. But it's still a baby and maybe in future when he grows......Who knows what kind of man the baby will become...
Dawes should be way bigger than they are. Such a fantastic band!!
I love Taylor's guitar playing. He's solid as a rhythm guitarist, he's solid as a lead player. Never flashy, but his phrasing is so perfect. glad other people notice. I prefer this version of the band with no other guitar players and Tay on keyboards.
props to the drummer for drumming with the heart

Griffin is a superb drummer.

Damn, this has to be my favorite band now.
Every time I hear Dawes I hear Jackson Browne. That's a good thing.
First time to hear this band and “Jackson Browne influence?” is what immediately sprang to mind. Def a good thing 👍
Man Taylor's tele sounds so good... the tone on the solo of time spent is so fluid.
kyle beahen I bought a Telecaster much because listening to the varity of sounds Taylor Goldsmith gets out his guitar on this concert :)
+kyle beahen anybody know what model that is?
+kyle beahen anybody know what model that is?
Zann he's got a rig rundown on here. Just RUclips Taylor goldsmith gear rundown. If I remember right it's a Frankenstein tele
Dawes has always touched my soul! Such an amazing band. Very rare to come across this talent in today's music.
Agreed, very much a staple of which I compare many bands I hear these days and not many come close in this genre.
Here are the tracks and starting times:
Someone Will 00:00
Million Dollar Bill 03:45
From a Window Seat 08:10
Something In Common 13:53
Time Spent in Los Angeles 19:13
A Little Bit of Everything 24:02
Taylor is a real talent. I love Dawes, as a band with great songs, good lyrics and great playing is rare today! They manage to touch the soul somehow
Man I miss this era of Dawes. Still an amazing band! Would fucking love another Middle Brother album!
I discovered this band with this performance, I get goosebumps and I can't stop listening to it. If I was there in the public I would be making the same faces as the drummer.
👌😧
This is why I love Austin. This happens all the time. Just walk down the street and walk on in.
I've lost track of how many times I've watched this. :)
Kept coming back to this vid. Never stop playing that tele my friend..
This guys are amazing! Really enjoy the space they give each other. They are all fantastic musicians!
still one of the best videos on YT
Can't really ask for much more from a folk rock band... great stuff.
Great Great vand! My favorite.
Dawes, special musicians, extraordinary vocals..lyrics of a genuine story teller!
So good - engaging, great songs, lyrics. What can I say? Just brilliant music!
I love you can’t forget 1 minute miss you more Then I say.
I keep returning to this video. I also just noticed that the bass player is chewing his gum to the beat in From a Window Seat. Real pro.
Love these guys, such amazing everything, words, message, talent, and sound. It's been one of my favorite finds, #DawestheBand. I hope you always stay together.
Love this band!! Why do all the "D"s have it? Dr. Dog, Deer Tick, Dawes, Delta Spirit, ... there's a pattern here!
Don’t forget Duran Duran
One of my faves since the beginning. Great writing and arranging I get good visuals from their lyrics.
10:51 man, i love the sound he had in his tele era
Brought it back this tour

These were the days. I miss the 4 piece sound with mellow keys. The new stuff is great, but it cant top this.
Great video. First time listening to Dawes. Looking forward to seeing them at Shrewsbury Folk Festival at the end of August 2015.
+magnetometer100 How was what I like to call Shoesbee Festival after all?
Wow, I love it!! Really good sound, y'all just cook.

Dan Stan Danley *iver
Dan Stan Danley cool, thanks, will check them out, best.
Taylor's guitar solo face is a low-key Charlie Day.
Wow
The new Dead live!
Please stop comparing to 70s bands. Also, why is the stage covered in Orange Amps? Not the standard Dawes gear. Backline? Venue endorsement?
either way they're sounding ace
Nope taylors deluxe is there you just gotta spot it 13:29

Yea I love how he added that little lyrical improvisation
Are they from JAX, FL?
no, from LA, I believe
anybody know how to get that guitar sound on time spent in los angeles?

Put the word magic between you and tube (e.g youmagictube) and it will download to your computer.
Thanks but I'm afraid to do that cause I'm afraid it may screw with my computer.

I have never seen, in any farmers market or dank Irish bar or open mic, a more boring band than Dawes.
Taylor was sporting a "Karen" back then.
