A relative of my wife had is own shop for years in Michigan. Had a four bay garage next to his house. Had a very good reputation. A few years ago a nearby tech school asked him to teach their auto repair tech class. He has been doing this and loves it. Works regular hours and only uses shop for his own vehicles or friends projects. With your intelligence and patience explaining technical procedures, you would probably be an excellent teacher/ instructor
I went to a school called Ranken Technical College many moons ago, and I would have LOVED if some of the instructors had been like Ray... patient, kind and thorough
Ray, I really like how you and Troy work together. He doesn't just jump ahead on things and seems really easy to teach. As you know, repetition will set habits. Any corrections you've given him he's taken gracefully. Plus, you always explain the why and don't assume he knows why. Correction without explanation just makes employees feel like they need to ask you about every single thing.
Really difficult doing anything when not feeling well let alone what you're attempting. Kudos for hanging in there and giving your all while being under the weather!⛈
I'm watching this episode on my 3rd day in bed with the flu, receiving Chemo makes it 10 times worse.. It's great to see you and Troy working together, the banter cheered me up, no end, cheers guys 🍻
This kid reminds me of my self when i worked at a private shop. The dude was older he was cool some times just was majorly bipolar. It ended up not working out, was a major blessing in disguise. What i wanna say tho, if for some reason it doesn’t work out dont screw him over if you let him have a tool box let him keep it after too. At least if he never ACTUALLY wronged you.
He's a quick study...Love your job? Yeah, I do it twice. He is a fortunate young man to have such an incredible teacher as you! Hope you are feeling better by now. Stay safe all. Love from West Michigan.
I like your work ethic Ray. I use to go to work sick too, and say..."Might just as well be accomplishing something, while sick, as be in bed sick. Actually took my mind off my pain., although my productivity was way down.
Have you never heard of alignment heal bars snap on makes the best ones never seen you use them ben a semi truck mechanic for over 30 years watching you alignment on that bolt was grueling to watch. Love your show I'm a loyal watcher
I love the fact that Troy gets to learn more humor from you, Ray (I don't know how much he knows already), of all the innuendo inherent in everyday mechanic car work jargon, especially when handling hardware.
I’m wondering how much more editing he’s going to have to do now that there’s two guys in there. If it was my shop it would be half bleeped and 90% innuendo.
I hope you feel better Ray by the time you read this. Love your interaction with Troy. Take care and I hope you and all your family units feel better soon.
Great video, Ray. Great seeing your young Grasshopper Troy working with you. Hope that all your family units are doing well. Keep up the good work. Hope you feel better quickly.
Another great video Ray. Working while you’re not firing on eight cylinders is rough, but it’s great that you have Troy to help you & listening to y’all picking on each other is great. Get well soon & keep’m coming
I find a No3 Phillips very useful to align the bushings (No 4 for larger holes). That left outer steering joint is not split-pinned! Not sure about the RH one, did not see it.
I purchased 2 sway bar end links for a customers 2005 Pontiac grand prix yesterday and there 85 dollers per end Link inflation is getting insane @Rainman Ray's Repairs
Working while ill is no fun and neither is doing a job over because of defective parts! Nice seeing you working with Troy and teaching him well. As always, enjoy watch you work, and wish I could still get down and dirty like I used to!
Used to teach detailing to young men a good job for a future but every now and then you get a student who doesn't listen and it drove me up the wall because the time I used to help him to learn it took time away from other learners so good look and don't turn your back because some students bring in bad habits of cutting corners 😊.🇬🇧
Awesome Troy is lucky to soak it all in and work in the shop to help build both reputation of the business and hone his skill. Good on you Ray and Troy for building out.
I love watching yoru videos. you have something i will never have while living up here... working on a rot free rust free car., no need for torches etc..
I not a pro, but I've had poor luck with reman parts, even some new non OEM parts. As a pro, a comeback won't pay you for the time to exchange a part, even when it's warranted. Florida rain has stopped, so I hope you feel better.
TY Ray glad it went well despite you feeling like death, also good to see "The Shadow" Troy feeling much happier to be seen by the world. Get way better soon mate, amd looking forward to the next Monte Carlo adventure. Keep Safe Keep Strong 🦘🦘🦘🦘💖💖
Totally agree. Troy is learning quickly without any appearance of being a smartalec. He is also thinking ahead and giving you the tools you need to do the job - that is one of the signs of a really good apprentice. He will do very well. Ray - you have made a really good choice in a trainable offsider. Troy is also compatible with your sense of humour - that makes a real difference too. Retired mechanic in Land Down Under.
No worries I feel like that all the time, did engine and gearbox oil change today. Used a brake bleeder suction thingy to get the box oil 66% out due to lack of drain plug. Ended up paying £13 for threadlock because I didn't feel like driving 3 miles in traffic to pay £6.50
Hope you're feeling better Ray. I used to use old head bolts to line up bushes and the like and found it a lot easier than trying to pry them into position.
I was really ill a week ago and it felt worse than the flu, however I bought myself a NETI POT to flush out my nose and it helps alot. For the body it's the best tool you can buy and I now swear by them, that and multi-vitamins with some off days from work.
Glad you're feeling better Ray. Love the back and forth between you and The Troy Unit, especially his willingness to rag on you even though you're the boss, lol.
I've done alot of the same work on my Impalas over the years. Even though I've experienced it I still like to watch you guys work on this Monte Carlo and mess around in the process. Still cannot believe they put a transverse 5.3 in these. Imo the 3.9 V6 has more than enough power and torque to get itself out of its way but would like try a SS someday
Watching this video in between running my truck to analyze my coolant temperature issue, getting oil and a filter to change the oil on my John Deere riding mower, and contemplating replacing the front valve cover gasket in my Kia. They both need it, but the rear one is somewhat of a major undertaking and until my truck is 100%, I cant be without a running car. So i will watch this video throughout the day, bit by bit. Hope you get over your sniffles and brain fog soon.
Hope you feel better soon. I got sick a couple days ago while doing some farm work after getting caught in a down pour but i'm dealing with it to finish up the fence repairs
Many have tried, but few have been able to disagree with the power of the pry bar ! And when that eclipse of the moon happens... THE TORCH !! And none have resisted this !! We have the power !
Two tings. Recently I have tried using the command `It is my will' on recalcitrant bolts. It works !. Secondly, I believe you are remiss in training the new dude. He cannot be properly certified until he has been fully exposed to ---DOODLEY DOO--. It should be operated by Wife Unit in Central Control, so she retains overall command
On the wishbones insert front in first then back as you can lift angle of unit up to slide bolt it and then nut on as that is always the hard one as of the angle. Spraying with WD40 on the old unit ads ease to removing things and inserting them. No split pin in your steering arm RAY but its in the other side by Junior.
Fun to see you and Junior enjoying your work (seeing him zip around on his chair reminds me of the Amish Grandpa in "Witness"). An item you might make use of is a OTC 6007 Lower Control Arm Prying Tool (there are several mfgrs). Very handy for prying control arms and zero stress on parts like axles.
Get well fast, Rainman. Personally, I keep a set of tapered drift punches which serve as drifts and as alignment tools. No need for dual tools as they work equally well for each job. They need a touch-up on the grinder from time to time. They have resided in my toolbox for 50+ years. Eric O uses a great control arm pry tool if you end up replacing a lot of lower control arms.
I had the "05 Monte Carlo & they have little little room to work on them, mine was the V6 wished it was the SS loved it till I got T-boned by a stop light runner 😞 Great Job Ray & grasshopper...
I got a headache from the fall, got any ice handy. Nice job showing Troy how to use the wrong size wrench, You, young grasshopper, are not old. The child units are still in school, therefore, you cannot be old. WORDS GRAVITY

I did that, retired with a state retirement package. No regrets.
He is the worst I have ever seen.
Not everyone is gifted to be able to teach. I agree if he wan't to he could do it same with Eric of at SMA. Whis I had a friend with a shop.
Teaching don’t pay good nowadays
Love the interaction with you and Troy. He is blessed to learn from a Master like you! Hope you are completely well by the time you read this, Ray!

I believe Troy was the right choice in bringing on to your team Gets along with you so Perfectly
What have you done? you've hired a guy who gets your sense of humor and encourages it. Glad to see you finally got him a uniform shirt. Great video!
Thank you for teaching a skill to someone willing to learn.

Ray. You need the control arm hook. It hooks on. And on the bottom there's a spot for the pry bar. Pops out every time
Hey Ray, it sucks when you're not sick enough to stay in bed, but just sick enough to feel miserable. Hope you recover soon 🙏
I like your work ethic Ray. I use to go to work sick too, and say..."Might just as well be accomplishing something, while sick, as be in bed sick. Actually took my mind off my pain., although my productivity was way down.

Ray. FYI: Unless I'm mistaken, the left tie-rod is missing its cotter pin.
Are you aware of how you install confidence in your viewers? You break things down enough for people to understand. 👍
