    I really hate that GM made these into fwd cars. They would've been WAY more popular, especially amongst most project car guys had these cars stayed rwd. You can only image the 6.0, 6.2, LSX swaps, ect. that guys would've been doing to these cars now. Imo, if GM would've kept Monte Carlo a rwd car, they would've been able to better compete with/continue the popularity of older 80s G-Body Monte Carlos these days. GM seriously hurt the potential of these cars when they decided to go the fwd route.

    • @AutomotiveAnonymous208
      @AutomotiveAnonymous208  Год назад +16

      I absolutely agree! Although I could imagine that Pontiac might have difficulty with the 6.0 G8 GT competing so closely to a 5.3 GXP. But if these were RWD and with a better tranny, I can imagine they would have been a drastically more mainstream hit. 😎

    • @tramainesmith6067

      @@AutomotiveAnonymous208 I think Pontiac could've spinned the G8 and the Grand Prix as their version of the Challenger and Charger for Dodge.

    • @AutomotiveAnonymous208
      @AutomotiveAnonymous208  Год назад +5

      That would have been nice, more options and internal competition can be good for business and improving innovation! I would have loved a Pontiac (Holden) Ute, maybe someday I’ll try to buy an imported one, or buy a left handed Ute built in Colorado. That’s if they come back into the orbit of a reasonable price. 😅

      In their opinion they thought it was “superior” to rwd because of traction control. They explain this in the dealership videos for the car, you can watch online. I hope they understand that no one cares and rwd cars are more powerful and more fun to drive.

    My mom bought an 07 Monte Carlo SS. But it was painted victory red, silver stripes It was a showroom car, my mom wanted it, my dad bought it. Every box for options was checked it was loaded completely out. At the time, my mom was 68 I guess she was having her second childhood. Well, couples years later, my mom passed away, and I bought the car out of the family estate. I put a cat back exhaust and a K&M air filter system. That car was fun to drive. Until I got a ticket going 91 and 65. And I figured I didn't need this car no more and I traded it in for pick up. That car was fast. After just putting simple modification I was pushing out almost three hundred and fifty horsepower. Also, when I traded it in, it had 60000 miles on it. And a little thing started going wrong, and I didn't feel like messing with it. All the A/C, heat, and defrost actuators were worn out and needed to be replaced. Don't get me wrong the car was fun to drive but I needed to pick up truck.

      GM got real lazy with these car back then but the v8 is what made up for the lackluster refresh. I had the 02 SS in all black but was bored with the performance. Now I have the 07 and it makes me forget those headlights 😝

    Dont forget the rare two year run of buick's lacrosse "super" with the same drive train. They made 2,416 total between both years. 2009 was the last year for the super. 139 made that includes the 16 allure supers for the canadian market. The rest of them were US spec supers so only 123 total. I have two of each year. A red jewel tintcoat 2008 lacrosse super thats 1 of 359 without a sunroof and is 1 of 498 in the red jewel tintcoat paint. The 2009 lacrosse super i have is 1 of 64 in the onyx black paint. It has every option you can think of. A teltale to the lacrose super is the 4 ventiports on each front fender and the flared rocker mouldings and rear fascia and another teltale is the foglights in the front lower grille. These cars are very dear to me having been blessed with two of them! They will hold their value as the years pass. These LS4 powered cars are unique between all 4. I like them all. Got a transmission flush at valvaline and put 20k trouble free miles on it was shifting fine when I traded it. Regular flushes or an aftermarket trans cooler and they will hold up. As far as the engine has no dod problems during MY ownership of the vehicle. Enough power to be king of the road until you run into an r/t,SS, or better. Do a few light mods to the 4T65E tranny to better handle the torque out of that 5.3 and it should be a rather robust set up,,,other than being a little nose heavy. Cadillac and Oldsmobile had FWD big blocks with around 400hp back in the late '60s and early '70s (455 Olds V8, 472 and 500 Cadillac V8 all running through a Turbo Hydramatic 425 tranny).

    Off the light it was fast, but that's about it unfortunately. I blew the doors off one with my 3.1L Grand Prix. Poor guy's face when his limiter hit, and I walked right past him.
    New, the dealerships refused to discount them. They were plagued with transmission issues, mainly due to heat and too much torque ripping the trans apart.
    Worthwhile owning, but get a transmission cooler on it, but use caution when removing torque management - because you'll scatter the transmission.

      Some people have actually started converting these cars and the earlier year W-Body cars into a RWD set up with the drive shaft going down a slightly modified exhaust tunnel. It’s pretty cool and something I never thought I’d get to see back when I owned a W-Body.

      @@AutomotiveAnonymous208 yeah that’s sounds super cool if you know how to do something like that but I wanted to do my own swap lol. An f body Camaro or firebird would be an awesome option but the only problem is where the engine sits for me. It makes it harder to swap and if something goes wrong it’s not the easiest to service. So that’s why I’ve been looking around trying to see what’s the best car (gm) to swap that I can get for a cheap price in good condition that I can have fun with. PS the f bodies I’ve been looking at are v6 not v8 models it’s the reason why I did research to v8 swap them.

    I believe you said this is the only LS4 FWD. Impala SS & Pontiac Grand Prix GXP had the same configuration. And don't forget the Buick Lacrosse & Lucerne also had an LS4. I sold new Chevys at the time when these came out and I later owned a Grand Prix GXP. That car handled way better then the Chevys and had way better seats. The side bolsters were huge and you felt planted in the seats. I later bought a GXP Bonneville. That had a Northstar V8. GM has been making FWD V8's since 1968 i think in a Toronado with 400hp and Cadillacs with 500lb ft of torque. They've kind of mastered it long ago as long their transmissions hold up.

      Yeah, I think they’re reliable! The Engine is an LS, so it’s quite stout and a very simple/reliable design. Especially being a V8 without any cylinder deactivation nonsense that reduces reliability. But the transmissions aren’t overly reliable, but thankfully once it needs replaced you get get an affordable stronger rebuilt from say Triple Edge Performance and never have to worry about that again! Also, these cars are cheap. They never really held their value.
