This song kills me every time I listen to it. I always tear up and then eventually just let go crying. My mother passed away in 2011 and she loved this band. Her name was none other than Virginia. Most of the lyrics in this song describe my mom. She was the best mother who gave me the best childhood a little kid could ask for. I am 31 now and miss her so damn much. If you are reading this and you still have your mother, please tell her you love her all the time and hug her tight. I love you mom. I can't wait to meet you again Virginia!
    Update 4/6/2021
I've been completely surprised by the overwhelming positive responses since I first posted 3 years ago. I wish I could hug you all. Instead I will raise a toast to all of you and enjoy a bottle of wine.
Since my post, my wife and I had a baby girl in March 2019. We named our daughter Alice Virginia in memory of my mother and my wife's mother. Both our mothers passed the same year of 2011.
I decided to respond again because I just lost my Uncle today. He is my mothers only sibling. They were the best friends of each other, because of losing their own mother as baby's. Their mother was only between 20 or 22 and they were 1 and 2 years old. They formed a bond that could never be broken. They were raised by their father, who died at 55, their grandpa, and their second mommy, their grandma. I was reminiscing and decided to listen music that takes me back to the great times I had with my mom and uncle.
Losing my uncle today has literally left me with nobody on my mothers side of her family. I am just devastated. The loss of my uncle was the last of my mothers memory. I am very grateful he was able to represent his mother, father, and my mom to witness my kids being born.
My wife had a miscarriage in January of 2021. It would have been a blessing to have a third child and my uncle witnessing it. We lost two lives this year sadly.
So on this day of April 6 of 2021, my uncle went to heaven to Meet Virginia, his sister...again for eternity. RIP Mom and Uncle Joe. Life just got harder without you both.
To you reading this, I Love You.

I can relate to this song. There are many Virginia's ( that aren't named Virginia ) out there. The girl that isn't sure what she wants in life, has gone through a lot and learned to lie and steal to get by, acts strange from the rest, and is not happy with the direction their life is going. Despite all of that, she is loving and nurturing. Finally, their intuition is magic.
I consider them to be roses that bloomed through concrete.

This song was on loop because it was a corporate approved playlist. Recently rediscovered this song and
    1. Totally forgot that Rebecca Gayheart was in the video (and how iconic 90s she was)
    2. Hear me out as my critique is for the music only (could care less about the lyrics) the only thing stopping this from being one of the best songs of the 90s is the chorus. Man, it’s whiny and depressing. You can disagree. If it rocks your boat, live it up.
    3. The verses absolutely make this song. That tasty AF lean bass and guitar picking texture and simple harmony underneath that great off the beat baritone melody.
    4. The GEM though is at 2:35 when the air clears after the bridge! The fun little lead guitar riffs, the arrhythmia, and that great 90s device where the melody jumps up to the next note in the given chord.
    Great song. Good for them.

I have had this song dedicated to me so many times in my life (my name is Virginia Kristine). The older I get the more it makes sense. I've grown to really love this song!

I saw them play this live in Philly when I was junior in college. They were playing a free acoustic set on the first floor of HMV on Walnut Street. It was awesome. 2 years later, I got a job at Tower records. That experience was too cool.

I remember this song through the music video. Also Rebecca Gayheart looks gorgeous in the music video. I would sometimes find myself singing this song alone. It's so lovely.

Best song ever and I wish to God the new aged songs would run of this inspiration ! Because this was when life actually really mattered and wasn't by technology by our finger tips on our phones !

When it comes to this hopeful energy of Meet Virginia by Train I admit that I am probably going to more likely connect this song to positive connotations from first hearing the song at a time in my life where I literally felt like the sky is the limit (late 90s as an idealistic 19 years old).

Back when Train was cool. On another note, it's weird how this song goes from light and fun to serious and dark in the chorus and then back to light.

Back to your first note, Train is still cool. Saw them a few months ago! Love Bulletproof Picasso. :)

Nicole E that is the point my dear - that is what makes this song so brilliant, unlike most songs - it gives you the radical emotional swings of the woman he adores

Train hasn't concluded their coolness. Going strong since 94!

Music Guru I agree. I like the dark part better myself.

Nicole E I've always thought of them as edgy pop rock, and they've always sounded consistent with the content of their songs.

I will never not love this song. Came out when I was in school and I vaguely remember hearing it. First fell in love with it on a 90's cd in middle school. Still love it.

There is a reason Silent and Listen are spelled with the same letters. If only we could be silent and listen, ooh the many Stories Untold, we would have heard. Meet Virginia! To all the Virginia's out there, Keep On Keeping On. Soon, and Very soon, All Will Be Well and Not In Vain. Your Day Cometh Steadfastly.
