Many thanks. I just got the Seagate 4 TB to store my channel vids and pics. I'm not using time machine yet as I want to just use it as storage for these items. Its still a bit daunting for someone who typed in the stone age on an underwood, but with your help I got through it and am dragging and dropping just great. Many thanks again David - you are a great help to the over 21 set as well.
I just added a new SeaGate HD and am so thankful I knew where to go to find out how to format it! (I forget EVERY TIME) The instructions were NOT in the SC HD box for sure!! Thank you so much. You are my FAV instructor.
This was sooo helpful!

Thank You for Everything David. Your my go to for just about everything....Your the best.
This was so, informative. I really want to thank you.
Looking forward to the Drobo tutorial. I have a FW 800 Drobo that I use to back up video files using Time Machine and it works fine till one of the drives starts to go bad. It gets real sluggish (Drobo also near full capacity) with never ending backups until I replace the bad drive. It then does it's "massage" backup which takes over 24 hours. When it's done, it works great again with lots of extra capacity. I've gone through this process twice over the last 5 years and notice after each event, all my old backups on a Time Machine were gone. I also use a second regular hard drive to back up too which I keep offsite.
Great information for the digitally challenged!
Thanks for the tutorial , it recalled helped as I am new to Mac and I am still getting used to some of the features . Very clear tutorial ... Gets a thumbs up from me !

Presents with such clarity and seems like you have fun doing it. However, I had to replay several times when it came to renaming and selecting the guid map stuff. It wasn't obvious that what showed up automatically was what you were suggesting that I choose. Other than that it was a great experience.
Thank you, so much!
Thanks Dave
Just what I was looking for! I wonder if you have a video on partitioning the external drive for Mac as well? Love you!
Thanks so much!
THANK YOU!

Her David,
Thanks for great Videos all the time. They are sometimes more worth than Gold ;)
Great things for North Germany
Just purchased a Samsung Portable SSD T1 not as backup but just to place videos on it. Very quick even on my 2009 MacBook Pro. It is fast enough to run the videos right from the drive.
Superb video as alway and I love the idea of Drobo. Can I backup my MacBook Pro to a Drobo wireless?
great job
Thanks, Ian!
Happy to find you on RUclips. Very educational. You should send me a bill!
Hi David - Thanks for your awesome tutorial! I have one question, please: I have an existing WD Elem hard drive (1TB) that is full (from tons of iMovie sports videos). I just purchased a 2TB WD Elem hard drive. Can i transfer all the info from my existing hard drive onto the new one? By chance, have you made a tutorial on this subject? Thanks for your assistance.
Great video David, keep bringing great videos like this, I love em :-)
Thanks, Tim! You still win for the best screen name!
Hi David, Thank you for your class. I would like to know what "size" external hard drive do I need to get? I was told by Apple support that the external hard drive should be twice the size of my internal hard drive. When my external hard drive gets full, do I need to buy another external hard drive to replace that one? Or does time machine replace old data with new data? Do I have to delete some old data in order to make room for new data?
I'm glad. I've buy 2 or 3 Seagate drives a year.
Hi,
Thanks was of huge help
Didn't find the link for drobo.
I'll put it in the description as soon as I get it from David. In the meantime, here's our product recommendations page on our website. techtalkamerica.com/recommendations/
omg thank you!!
Thanks
Thanks!
By the way the link for the drobo mini goes to the link for segate 1TB. I will of course look it up myself to find it on Amazon but I thought you might like to know. Thanks again! 😊
thanks
Hey David I have limited storage left on my Mac Pro but I want to install the new sounds in Logic X. Can u point in the direction to help me do so. Heard there r ways to do so. Thanks
Hello David: Great video, follow your postings. I have early 2009 iMac, 24", Intel Duo Core, 8GB RAM. I highly suspect my HDD is about to "kick the bucket" Many videos/postings on SSD 256/516(?) GB as a replacement. Your thoughts? I've reviewed Samsung 870 as a replacement 🤔🤔. Thank you!!
Thanks for that. Worked a wonder. Not sure why anyone would hit the thumbs down button, video does what it says 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
Good video. I’m having a problem with a new hardrive I bought from amazon and it’s dithered out and won’t be reformatted. Do you have any solutions?
Can I use same external hard drive for my Mac and my Windows PC?
Hi David, really love your videos.
When I try to format and partition an external hard drive - seagate 2TB slim,
I get an error message, "Partition Failed with the error: Couldn't unmount disk"
Can you please help why this is happening? What am I doing wrong... I am following your tutorial.
Many thanks!
RB.
David, this is a very hel;pful class, and I learned how to format an external WD 5TB drive. The Mac OS that you were using was El Capitan (very dated) and the Big Sri windows have changed. This up data would be helpful. Also the video is badly out of focus and it is hard to read the menu options. Cheers and keep up the good work.... Roy
I use a MyPassport from WD, is it good for a MacBook Pro, just asking because I don't really know the difference.
David - are the recommended Seagates suitable for Time Machine backup on an iMac (always plugged in)? Because I hear for continuous backup like TM, it's best to have a drive with it's own power cord and an internal fan. Is that still true (like the WD My Books)? Or is it ok to use just a regular USB, no fan drive? Thank you.
is it still a similar process in 2019?
Can formatting be done after it's been used? Product said it was "plug and play". I don't think I ever formatted it.
My WD drives last forever, but the different colors (red, black, blue and green) confuse the heck out of me so I go with the green.
Thanxxxxx
I have a Mac with a bunch of music and dj'ing apps that I don't want to delete, would it be best to put it on the hard drive then delete from the computer?
Hello David. I have a question if I may. I have nearly a terabyte of photo files on my external hard drive connected to my PC. I plan to buy an Imac soon and would like to migrate those files to a new hard drive formated to the new mac. Do you have a video on how to do this? Thank you .
I know how to
Ok so when u get the new Mac what you want to do is the normal unpacking then when u boot it up somewhere in the setup it will say
Setup as new Mac
Setup from a windows machine
Setup from an iCloud backup
Setup from a Time Machine backup
Click on Time Machine
And click your drive
When I plug in my seagate backup plus slim hard drive into my 2013 MacBook it doesn't even show up on the disk utility? What do I do?
What about portable hard drives? Do I have to plug it in often to backup?
how can i set up Time Machine on my second internal HDD that is 2TB and has 2 partition in which one has Windows 7 installed and want the other partition to be Time Machine????
Hi David. Just wondering if Apple has released a new Mac Pro laptop? I had heard they were and I have held off buying one. Cannot find anything on it. Do you know? Thanks
hi, when i turn on my imac every morning at office, i should connect the hard drive to the back of my imac, using it for full day (since all my info is on drive not on imac memory). then when i want to leave office after ejecting my hard drive i turn off my imac. again tomorrow when i turn on my imac i need to plug off and plug in the hard drive to be able to open and use it! repeating this, is very annoying! is there any other safe method for using hard drive on imac? pls advise. thank u
