The B-1 Lancer Heavy Bomber - MASSIVE PAYLOAD FIREPOWER
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 14 авг 2024
- Military aircraft seldom take an uneventful road to full operational service and such was the case with the storied Rockwell B-1 "Lancer" heavy bomber of the United States Air Force (USAF). The Lancer was developed as a nuclear-capable, high-speed bomber to replace the venerable Boeing B-52 "Stratofortress" heavy bombers in service with the USAF since 1955. The Mach 3-capable North American XB-70 Valkyrie was originally set to become the primary heavy bomber of the USAF and Strategic Air Command (SAC) - as well as serving as the B-52's original replacement - but the global political climate, advancing technologies, and an unfortunate accident ultimately led to the product's cancellation. Key forces behind the demise of the XB-70 were advances in Soviet air defenses (in both radar and missile technologies as well as manned interceptors like the Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-25 "Foxbat") and the growing U.S. focus on ICBMs and cruise missiles as a first-strike, radar-evading, low cost alternative to a manned bomber approach. Beyond the B-52 for the high-altitude bombing role, USAF SAC held only the "swing wing" General Dynamics F-111 "Aardvark" in its stable and this was used primarily in the low-level strike role. The B-52 was a subsonic "heavy" while the F-111 operated as a supersonic system with a much more limited bomb load.

Hey Mat, please make another video about TU-160 (BLACK JACK) ,TU-160M (WHITE SWAN), and why B-1 LANCER CAN'T use cruise missiles
Well TU-160 drop FOAB as powerfull as 44 tonnes of TNT, WITHOUT modification, US in other hand, forced to drop larger and weaker MOAB from C-130
Oh, and also abut TU-95 (THE BEAR). and it NEXT GEN cruiser carrier modifaction TU-95M (SUPER BEAR)
JDAM bombs?
You mean J DAMN SON bombs?
Anyone ever told you how much of a blessing it is to hear an actual voice instead of text to speech? Cause it is
my theory is that all of those channels are run by one person who doesn't want to blow their cover
I don't watch those electronic voice videos
Covert Cable is another great "real voice" channel
@@EricTheActor805 yeah, between CC & Mat here, I'm satisfied. Both of them cover pretty interesting concepts & topics.
@Tess Stickles I see you on everyone of his videos wtf

Are you stalking me...
No offense but you made yourself sound real dumb talking about close air support
when you need to take a 50 ton dump on the enemy
B-52: Pathetic
That's a serious shit storm!
Operation shit storm

YOU. EAN WHEN YOU. GOTTA TAKE. A SHIT. ON THE ENEMY. US. ARMY
A10= the homemaker whom everyone neglects
F35= the gold-digger the husband bangs
B52= the granny who stays quiet, but everyone is scared of her
B1= the MILF with big boobs, but yet her cooking is awesome, so everyone envies her husband
Jagannath Barman well, that's interesting xD
Well, you're right about the gold digger.
mmmm!,,,, reminds me of F-111 Aardvark
F-35 = the gold-digger that later on you find out is more skilled than you expected.
BlackSkorpion1991 Agreed. It takes skill to get damaged by 30 year old Soviet S200 SAMs.
Most ground support missions are performed by small aircraft like the A-10 and the Apache attack helicopter. It must be a sight to behold when ground troops call for air support and a B-1 shows up it has to be mind blowing. No pun attended. Lol
elison19120 Actually in Afghanistan most ground support missions are performed by F16's and B1's
TheReal Lifehacks jep mostly them and also you do not see the B1 you just see the pressents it dropped from high altitude
More ordnance has been delivered by the B-1B in Afganistan than by any other aircraft.
A coworker's son was the FAC for his unit in Afghanistan, and while he was there, they used the B1s for show of force. Have one of these go screaming thru the valley at 500 ft on afterburners just to scare the Taliban types before they went in.
One time at a CAX (big Marine Corps live fire combined arms exercise out in 29 Palms) my unit (the DASC) was actually lucky enough to have a B-1 under its control. Normally, we just get Marine Corps assets like 18s, and Cobras, and maybe Harriers on occasion, so to have a B-1 available to us was pretty cool. Sadly, the DASC isn't the same thing as a FAC so I never actually got see the B-1, or any other bird) for that matter, in action.
I love the A-10 and getting A-10 CAS is a blast but my god when a Lancer makes a screaming fly-by dropping munitions... our FAC went bonkers when a Lancer reported in on CAS net :D
Probably busted a nut
CoyDK DK, yeah when you have air superiority and smart bombs, bombers are great performing the CAS mission, fantastic loiter time.
Back in the day being deployed to Al Udeid, the B-1 was easily the loudest jet on the Ramp. You can hear that thing on engines from miles away.
We never had the opurtunity to get A-10 CAS or Apache in Afghanistan like Iraq. Everything was best guess until the ordinance landed. We were nicknamed the 2K crew, which S1 said was costing too much money and damage so we started using #500 and called in fire inefective until the target was cleared. We were given 2k back. Of course that was early on in 01-03 before the nation building libs took charge. But that is another story. Cheers
I saw a B-1B pilot who was talking about how good this thing actually is at CAS missions. He said they could go full afterburner all the way to the target, then hang out in the target area for hours, and the amount of weapons it can carry is insane.
I was supposed to see one of these at RAF Luechars in the early 2000s.
Unfortunately they were withdrawn from the display to go rearrange the topography in Afghanistan.
AidanMyne was the same for me. Did manage to see the B52 at leuchars. Huge plane! Finally saw the b1b at the RIAT. Woah what a bomber. It left the airshow and I thought that was that. 10 minutes later it came absolutely screaming across the airshow. Low and VERY fast. As a young teen I was buzzing for the rest of the day.
I was there that day too
@@shabazzkhan7355 You must think I meant 'rearranging the topography' is a good thing. I meant it sarcastically as something that doesn't achieve anything productive.
I would assume a peace deal would in practical terms mean more local control of who profits from the poppies and less western disgust at bacha bazi.
My stepfather was the electronics design engineer for the B-1A, I got to sit at the end of the runway for the 1st flight and go to Edwards for most of the flight testing with him before the Carter Administration cancelled that program. Reagan brought it back as B-1B
It was a such a relief when Reagan reinstated the B-1. A very happy memory.
I did well working at a steel plant during the Reagan terms. We made casings& projectiles for Gov't use.
Very nice plane to distribute "gifts" to our enemies.

When i was doing my military service (1998-1999) i had to guard one ... all night, in the winter, in the rain. Very impressive airplane, but i was still very wet and very cold!! :-)
It was in Belgium for an airshow, with its companion tanker plane ....
valcked thank you for your service.
valcked thank you for your service!
I once had to guard a brigadier's Gazelle helicopter, and I discovered that if you turn the rotor blades by hand, that this makes the pilots joy stick start to move. I don't think I broke it as the helicopter later flew off without any mishap. Guard duty can be boring and I was using my initiative to keep myself amused lol.
I once flipped a switch in the US Army. Training successful!
Thank you for your service brother.
During a military exercises here in norway a B-1 Lancer flew pretty low over my house, it was amazing
This was my favorite bomber as a kid due to not only how it looked, but the sheer amount of ordinance it could deliver. Good to see a video cover the Lancer.
Thanks Matt, I am a retired 03-17 USMC and LEO in a wheelchair now, sure enjoy your videos. My Grandfather was a welder in WWII in Detroit Michigan making the Sherman tanks, same ones in your video on tank tactics.
My son did 2 tours in Iraq with 4th ID MLRS I've been looking but haven't found a presentation about that.

next add tail hook for carrier landing.
photonman54 it won’t fit on the elevator therefore it cannot be maintained on a aircraft carrier
Hell, if they can launch and (I think) recover a C-130 on a carrier it should be theoretically possible to do the same with a B-1.
Riceball01 where are they gonna keep this on a carrier. The carrier doesn't have an unlimited space
Alpha Din Gabisi I never said that it was a realistic notion, just that a navalized B-1 or at least flying a B-1 off of a carrier is theoretically possible since they did it with a C-130 before. That's, of course, not taking into account the length and width of a B-1 compared to a C-130 and, most importantly what its short take off capability is. Assuming that a B-1 can fit on and take off in the length of a carrier deck there's no reason why, if the USAF really wanted to conduct such a wacky experiment, it couldn't happen. After all, like I said previously, this was done once with a C-130.
The F-14 was as close as you were going to get to that. (And was practically a medium bomber itself. Was one of the main jobs before they retired it.) B-1 is too big though.
I remember working on these birds from '85 to '92 at the Vought Corp in Dallas. We built the sections from the front weapons bay to the tail end. The first time I saw it fly was absolutely incredible. The roar of the engines at low level was more felt than heard.
I’m a USAF veteran with 25yrs of aircraft maintenance experience. 12 of those years were spent maintaining the B-1B bomber and holy cow it was fun!!!
man what i wouldn’t give to have a couple beers with ya and just talk about this beautiful birrd, also thank you for your service sir,'

the b1 like the spitfire has that appearance, that it slides through the air , and isnt just pushed through the air against its will .
you know what i mean?
I built the D.C. power system for this magnificent, beautiful machine
We had one of these do a fly by in Afghanistan back in 2010. We were taking fire and engaging in skirmishes with the enemy and one of these came in and ended it all when it flew over the battlefield about 200 ft off the ground. I remember standing on the hill in COP Kherwar and I swear I could have it with a rock it was so low. One of the coolest things I've ever seen.
Love this aircraft. Thanks for highlighting this gorgeous bird Matsimus! My father actually was an engineer that worked for Rockwell and was tasked with designing this bomber. Along with many other great guys. But I am very proud of him for being a part of this program back when it was still in the design phases under Rockwell.
My great thrill was to work for Rockwell International making parts to construct this fantastic bird.
I went to an air show at McConnell AFB in Wichita in 1992 when they still had a few based there. They kept doing high speed passes with sonic booms. You almost have a reflex to cover your head when they fly over, simply because of how absurdly loud and powerful they are.
I’ve had the opportunity to get up close and personal with this aircraft. I gottah tell you, you can’t really appreciate the size and power of this bomber until you’re standing underneath it’s open bomb bays or you see it perform a engine run test. It’s truly impressive! Great video Matsimus 👍
Saw one of these fly during a special event at our local airport a number of years ago. The focus was on 4 WWII bombers (B-17, B-24, B-25, B-29) which were thrilling to see in person. There were two B-1B bombers there, one on display (though you were kept from getting too close) and one which was flown for demonstrations. The pilot got approval for a low altitude, high speed (subsonic) pass with a steep climb at the end. Even knowing it was coming it still wasn’t apparent until it got close, and the huge wall of sound didn’t hit until the aircraft was right on top of us. It then tipped up (about 50 degrees) and shot into the sky. It was magnificent. A B-2 and pair of F-117s flew over shortly after. It was a truly great day at the airport.
I love the look of the bomber. I know, so shallow of me to love just on appearance But this video taught me to love what's on the inside too. Thanks Matsimus!
It's crazy, it looks like a giant fighter jet, instead of a bomber.
That is serious firepower, B-1 "Lancer" and Tu-160 "Blackjack" are absolute beasts. Think about it, there were 100 built of the B-1.... 100 units, that's a lot
Should have been 1000 units. 800 for USA and 200 for allies. UK and Australia could have each used 50-100 units. A larger quantity purchase by USA would have allowed B-52 to be retired as planned back in the 20th century.
50 were taken out of service by an arms treaty
Love this plane! My dad was in the Air Force and we were stationed at Grand Forks AFB, which had the B-1. I remember hearing their engines at night, it would litter make the walls vibrate, and I loved that and the sound they made! What was even more cool, was when my dad retired from the Air Force, my whole family got to go into the cockpit of a B-1! Some awesome memories. Love the channel! Keep up the great work!
I was eastbound on I 90 just passed Rapid City , South Dakota. A BONE took off in the same direction even with me. It came up from behind a berm all at once. Unforgettable !
Wow first time I seen this fly it did the halo ring flying down the runway at Mildenhall airshow in the UK and while doing it's display it shattered a base commander's new $1million greenhouse n set off every car alarm at the show. My favorite bomber n what a display wow
6:00 - at dusk with the 4-pack burning...... wow!!!
This aircraft is amazing to see, I live near Ellsworth AFB. Which if you look at the tail of a lot of the aircraft shown you will see the EL tag and those are the ones that sit waiting near me. I also get to do work on the base due to my job and watching these things take off from the side of the runway is just jaw-dropping.
The first time I saw this plane, it was in flight as I passed through Wichita from Texas to Nebraska..... and when I saw it, I immediately recognized it, but was struck by how beautiful and graceful it looked in the air. It did have its wheels down, and I strained my position in the car and on the interstate/turnpike to be able to increase my opportunity to see it better. Thanks for the info on this beautiful aircraft.
YES LOVE THIS PLANE!
Fits well between my love for the Tu-22M3 and Tu-160(M2)
Absolutely love this aircraft! This is my second favourite jet bomber after the Avro Vulcan. Britain should of bought some of these to replace the Vulcans
Thanks for a great video! While I was stationed in Kansas the B-1's and B-52's used to fly training missions over my area and have surprised me flying low to the ground. In the rolling hills you can't hear them until they are practically right on top of you.
Grew up in Wichita Ks, they where based there when SAC was active. Loved watching them and the F4's then F16s out at McConnell
The B-1 Lancer and the B-52 Stratofortress are two beautiful bombers, I want them to remain operational for many decades to come. And they must never be replaced unnecessarily!
Beautiful murderes - do you have no understanding at all what this is made for??? Depraved idiot.
We need an Video about the Vulcan bomber Please ?
michael jarosch beautiful thing, seen it in flight 600m above my mum's house when it was doing a ceremonial flight in 2012...
The sound and sight is almost indescribable by words.
My FAVOURITE bomber of all time...... she's an absolute stunner!!
I've never seen an aircraft of this size do barrel rolls like a fighter, I recommend everyone watch the footage of it, it's effing unbelievable!!!
check out 707 performing barrel rolls,
I saw a wedge formation flight of 3 around 100 to 200 feet off the ground flying parallel to Rt 40 in AZ or NM. They were 1km north of the highway and hauling ass and huge balls. I pounded the steering wheel and yelled some super motivated stuff with expletives. I will never forget that moment because they were kicking up dust like Firefox kicked up snow when he was running away. Amazing aircraft.
This aircraft played an enormous role in annihilating ISIS in Kobani Syria
Also in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Probably dropped supplies to them
The Americans have got their heavyr bomber capabilities well covered.
B 52 for payload
B-2 for stealth
B-1 for speed
SteveMHN lmao b52 isn’t payload b1 is payload and speed
B-52 is cost dude
@ZonTheDon I mean it clearly isn't payload since the payload is LESS than the B1-B
The best description of a B-52 was "flying dump truck".
My dad help build em. Got to see the last one go through its paces back in the day before it was delivered. Very impressive aircraft. My dad still talks about them to this day.
In the early 1990's I was driving a Nissan 280Z on a deserted highway across New Mexico when a B-1B flew up behind me. It was probably around a 1000 feet high, or maybe less. I almost had to stop to change my shorts. Those guys flying it were probably having some fun with me.
Damn came to early, no comments.....only channel where the comments are not a ton of crap from doods with no lives.

Hey I need to make a comment on this if comments are this highly rated here :)
7:30 explains well the advantages over a B-52.
Great vid, I would love to see you doing a vid on the Tu 160 "Black Jack"
In the mid 80s I spent five years on the B-1b as a CITS-EMUX/OAS technician and specialist flight supervisor with the 96th Bomb Wing. I was the USAF rep during T.O V&V on CITS-EMUX and on the flightline was inspecting the majority of aircraft system. As a civilian pilot, I flew the full motion simulator on slow nights.for about a dozen hours spread out over a few months knowing a civilian support tech. It wasn't rockets science and had a few issues during maturation. Initial missions were deemed an on time take off if it actually flew the week it was on the schedule. The airplane was a joy to see in the air and sometimes a nightmare on the ground. Those main gear doors were a 4,000psi waffle iron just waiting for a crew chief and the silicon coolant that flowed through the -161 avionics transmitters probably lead to future birth defects. Good memories and couldn't leave it behind fast enough...
Nicely done and a good look at the B-One!
Ok seeing two B-1’s flying with like 6 F-35’s was sexy as all hell
The Tu-160 may have the B-1B beat on paper. It's the mission and tactics that sets the Lancer apart from other heavy bombers. The B-1B goes in low and fast. That's almost unheard of for damn near every heavy bomber. She flies like a fighter and hits like a bomber. While everyone is eyeballing the sky with radar. The Lancer will buzz her target which will then be drowned out by the deafening noise of her bombs destroying everything. The Tu-160 is a fine, beautiful aircraft. But for getting down and dirty the B-1B Lancer is my bomber of choice. Her smooth curves are sight to behold to any friendlies on the ground.
IdleDrifter the b-1 will get shot down with no problems if you don't use this plane like a missle carrier...
Yup. Not to mention the B1 is sexy af. And loud. Fly low enough you'll defen the enemy. (Lol)
@AHFlyingCircus yeah its pretty dang stealthy
My Fav Bomber Su-34 Fullback.
Tu-160 is just a missile carrier and doesn't really compare to the B-1. The B-1 is a much more capable aircraft and is much more advanced with it's technology.
USA upgrades every bomb into a JDAM, making them GPS-guided
Russia uses advanced bomb sights to drop old unguided bombs with laser accuracy.
SpaceKraken is this true?
Thanos yes
SpaceKraken cost efficient
the US had its experience with laser guided bombs decades ago with desert storm and other operation... smoke, sand and other stuff in the air will ruin the accuracy, GPS instead will hit the signaled place even with 0 visibility.
BlackSkorpion1991 he said laser accuracy, not laser guided, i think you misread.
I grew up around these behemoths. My dad was a navigator on board. This brings back many memories, and let me tell you being on the flightline when these aircraft take off at dusk is an experience you'll never forget. The clips of them taking off didn't do it nearly enough justice.
I seen this bomber at RAF Mildenhall, England at an air show in the late 1980’s (my dad was stationed at RAF Bentwaters). What impressed me about it was that it took off, circled around, came up behind us. No one even heard it until the pilot put on the after burners at low level and scared the crap out of everyone. I was an immediate fan of the plane.
I’m a huge fan of the B52 as well. There is Nothing like massive amounts of bombs dropping and destroying everything without mercy or stopping.
A squadron of B1’s dropping payload on the enemy gives me a 🦴 no woman could ever dream of duplicating. Lmbo.
Had the honour to work with B-1 in afghanistan as a JTAC. awesome maschinery, and awesome personel on the airframe.
Most underrated military aircraft? I think so.
I always thought this would be ideal for following in your air superiority fighters into combat. While the fighters are in a battle they could be using their weapons systems to lock on the targets and then send info to the bomber that could then launch massive amounts of air to air missiles at the enemy from a standoff range.
I was a (MOS)2a55b instrument autopilot systems b-1b technician on this thing back in the 90s. Awesome plane, but a pain in the ass to fix. The coolest thing we used to do drive to the end of the runway while it was launching. We would be well with inside of 50 feet of it while it was taking off. All the bones in your body would rattle inside you as all four engines were in full afterburn as it passed by. Nothing else I've done compares to that.
Seen one do a “show of force” in Sangin Helmand province in 2010 then proceeded to drop 2 x 1000pounders on an enemy position very impressive
Had one come by for an airshow one year. It did a flyby a couple of times and then flew up into the clouds and disappeared. Another time it came in at tree top level hauling ass. Awesome!!!
Very well put together video, great job! I love the lancer, so spooky yet elegant in a way, the lil "mustache", the folding of the rear landing gear, the variable wings. One of my all time favorites
This is the most beautiful plane ever. But the A-10 "Pumba" is my favorite
Supposed to replace the 52s LOL! The buff will be doing the flyby during the B-1's retirement ceremony even for the B-2s. The buffs will be in service until late 2040s--that's almost 100 years in service!!. One does not simply get rid of his best toy. The planes people don't usually see in cool movies are those that do most of the work. Want total destruction for half the price? Call the 52s!
This is sort of the forgotten American bomber, but it's always one I've really liked. I'm going to miss it when it's replaced by the B-21.
Being apart of an fst and qualifying for jtac, I completely understood my fac when he a b-1 c/s turned up and biggest smile came across his face, and him saying " oh I going to have fun today" and scaring the shit out of the us and the insurgents lol
I was stationed at Dyess Afb, 82/90, SAC, 96th SPS/SF.
We were the first home of the B1B, was a neat looking aircraft!
were you in the USAF in 2007?
B1-BVR... Beyond Visual Range air dominance Lancer.
B1-B loaded with Dozens of AMRAMs that are controlled by F-22 / F-35 / AWACS via airborne data links. Achieving that type of capability could render current air to air combat doctrine obsolete.
Just a thought. :)
SWARM EM.
It's called the B1-R and they were planing to build it, they didn't but just imagine that as an escort fighter.
@Charles Yuditsky 24 (on F-15E's or the recently ordered 80+ F-15X's anyway)
interestingly enough, the US Navy has expressed the most interest in this. Operated from land based airfields, carrying JASSM's & LRASM's, and AIM-120D's, it has the range to support naval operations without being carrier based.
Not AMRAAMs. If we were going to do something like this, use a really long ranged missile like the Meteor. The Meteor has a nearly 200 mile range. Launched from max altitude it would come in with a stupid amount of energy.
Fun fact Mat, US special forces relied on B1's for CAS in Afghanistan, since the B1 can carry a large payload and loiter
The Spirit may be awesome, the Stratofort is a truck. This thing is a beauty!
this thing carries a higher payload than the B52
That is one BEAUTIFUL goddamn plane. It's so sculpted and sleek, it's sort of like a supercar. I guess in the Air Force's bomber fleet, the B-52 is the pickup truck, and the B-1 is the McLaren.
Hello Matsimus
I'll relay a rather interesting anecdote I've heard about the B1B.
In Afghanistan in the summer of 2006 a company of the PPCLI got in a massive firefight with the Taliban in the Panjawii. They were to close to civilians and inhabited buildings, thus under the then rules of engagement, they were denied artillery support. It happened that a B1B was returned from a sortie to Kandahar Airfield was nearby; the Lancer had already expanded all it's ordinance, but the Taliban didn't know that, so the Canadians and the pilot came up with a novel idea. The pilot flew low and fast over the Talibans positions, started dumping excess fuel, then immediately pulled up, kicked on afterburners and made one hell of a fireworks show immediately above the Talibans positions. Needless to say the Taliban got the message, and began fucking off about as quickly as they had appeared.
I've never seen a B1B in real life, but everyone I've met who has seen one has been as overawed as you were Matsimus.
Thanks for the video.
Sounds like some hollywood stuff but if that really worked it shows how incredibly hot those afterburners are hahaha
Yikes that sounds like comps stalls and over g heaven
I’ve heard from F16 pilots who’ve said they (the F16’s) drop down in a dive near a target and pull up hitting the afterburners. The resulting sonic boom creates enough force, it mimics a small aerial explosion and knocks down just about everyone.
b-b-b-b- bad
b-b-b-b bad
BAD TO THE B-ONE!
Only comment section on RUclips that's not full of "experts". Just admirers.
Very good pictures of the B-1. Enjoyed your input on the capabilities of the B-1. Can't wait for your next video.
You make some really nice videos... one of the interesting things for me was especially when I first saw it... was how deceptively small this plane looks... most planes even without a background size for its look... B52s just look huge... F-15s/F35s look smaller... the A-10s/AC-130s their looks match their size... but for these Lancers... until you are familiar with them... unless you have some kind of background for context... the curves and sleekness these hides just how big these planes are... and fun to watch.
It's always amazing to me, it's payload when it looks so slender.
I have not seen the B-1 in person flying but I will always remember seeing the B-2 fly overhead at EAA several years ago. I felt like I was in a Sci-Fi movie. It just didn't seem real. I did pass by a bunch of the B-1s while on my way to Sturgis, SD for the Harley rally one year and it was neat to see them all lined up.
My father and brother worked on this beautiful plane, it's an amazing aircraft. Also at least one B1-a had an ejectable crew compartment, given it size, that is pretty crazy.
The B2 carries 80,000lbs of capacity....
The B52 is just an efficient dump truck, its slow, but goes a long way.
She's a beauty.
Such a Sexy Bomber. Flying over Mach 1 500 feet off the ground dropping 80 JDAMs in a war zone near you!
This plane is slated to be mothballed in the near future, going the way of the F-14 tomcat fighter as being both superior in their respective roles but an operational / maintenance nightmare in terms of necessary downtime and costs. The beauty of the venerable B-52 is that it was constructed that you could economically gut entirely its avionics to modernize it, tighten a few bolts on the air-frame and it's good to go economically for another 10-15 years.
The Convair B-58 Hustler is the most gorgeous bomber ever.
Great video as alway bud. - Semper Fi.
A little known fact about the B-1B is that the core from its GE F101 engines was developed by GE and Snecma into the civilian CFM-56 turbofan. This engine is on virtually all operational Boeing 737s, half of the Airbus A320s, and, for many people, will be the only jet that they have ever been flown by. A genuine example of unexpected and massive spin-off benefits.
I was USAF Security Forces for 10 years. I was working one day when the B-1 that had stopped at our base took off and then circled around to do a fairly low flyby. I was inside at the time and thought the building was going to come down on us. It was the most awesome, unholy noise I've heard since seeing top fuel dragsters up close and in person. Those pilots fly this thing like it's an F15. I became a big B-1 fan right then and there.
The B-1B is undergoing testing to accommodate the AGM-158C LRASM, a stealthy high subsonic, manoeuvring anti-ship missile with revolutionary autonomous flight planning and targeting capabilities. Likely to become one of the top ship killers on the world stage.
LRASM and JASSM are pretty much the same missile. The latest strike in syria saw 2 BONEs launch 16 JASSM-ER.....so I'd say she's ready to go.
Damn. She just keeps hitting. They don't stop. Amazing plane.
You dont need to talk with your american cosines to know it had operational deployment in Afghanistan. It is all over the internet mate. It served in the initial stages o Operation Enduring Freedom out of Diego Garcia AFB in support of the strategic bombing. Campaign against the Taliban regime, and then as part of close fire support missions. Its all over the internet....
My old man use to fly the F-4. When they were retired all the pilots were offered the opportunity to cross train to wide body aircraft. ( Basically large aircraft ) My old man was offered tankers, a guy he knew was offered the B1b. Come years later, air show, one of these showed up and turned out the pilot was one of the phantom drivers cross traind. Needless to say we got a tour of the cockpit. One hell of a cool plane. I wish they would keep it, but current plans are to replace it with the B21. Who knows, maybe they can transfer them to the Navy as a long range missile carrier for anti ship missions. Not holding my breath on that though......
I, too, am concerned with dropping a massive payload on the low end to basically pound the opposition into submission.
I hope this stays in service long enough to get an R revision/upgrade. B-One-R
You can see one up close at a museum next to Ellsworth Air Force Base, South Dakota, USA. It's the centerpiece of the museum, sitting out front surrounded by other planes of all sizes (including a B-52 and a B-29). You can walk up and touch it if you want. I've been there twice... if you ever have occasion to visit Rapid City, SD, don't miss it.
Oh, and AFAIK they still operate out of there, so you might catch one in action if you're lucky!
Yeah. I visited that base when my family went on a trip out to YellowStone and drove through south dakota (My dad's a retiree of the US Army so he can take us on base, so we stayed at the rv park). When we walked out in the morning you could see them taking off. Also not to mention ellsworth has a missle tour/ education for the missle silos that were in that area. Its a really cool tour. One sexy girl, one mean girl.
it's one of my most favorite Air planes in the world
there is an original B1 on display at the air and space museum in Nebraska. it is one of many amazing craft there. I rolled right up to the tires. quite amazing
You should do a video on the tu160 and all its variants, as it's the Russian equivalent to the this plane, and thanks for the video
There is no need for that
I think even getting killed by something this beautiful is lucky by some morbid way
This beast has performed flawlessly in Afghanistan and has saved many lives on more occasions than you can fit on here, it's been a phenomenal success in the USAF
The SR-71 Blackbird has always been my favorite aircraft since my days in the Air Force but now I would say the B1B is tied for that title, Thanks for the great video, Matsimus!
you should do one on the TU-160
Hey I said do discussion on tu160 and b1 lancer. Or tu95 and b52 bomber
I love the B-1 Bomber. I too saw this at an air show and it just blew us away. Great video and in fact I like all your videos, great job.
